... and then there's aerial refueling. :p

As you say, practice will be the best route to improvement, but maybe try "walking the throttles" to get finer thrust control. In other words, alternate movement of the levers and don't move both levers at the same time. I still struggle the most with this part of the approach, especially the transition to onspeed, but I am getting there. Oh, and if you haven't already discovered it, go get Banklers Case 1 training mission. That sets you up a few miles behind the carrier, for f14 or f18, and scores your attempts. That'll show you how much all of that practice is paying off.

I do try to wait until I've landed before pulling the levers back, but I sometimes do have to advance and pull back, to get to ground idle. It was more the difference when in flight, probably combat, that I was wondering about whether I'd notice or not. I suppose it would depend on whether things like the break before a case 1 landing would constitute high g and whether the lower idle setting might slow you down noticeably quicker. If it's not already modelled it probably would not rate that high on the list of things to add.

maybe try the old faithful approach of deleting the export.lua file, from the users/<yourname>/Saved Games/<DCS root>/Scripts folder, and restarting DCS and VoiceAttack. I know this means you are going to have to do a restart, but that should do it, at least until the next DCS update.

A little more detail might be useful, to allow peeps to have a better shot at helping. In the meantime however, i take it that you are flying the F14 and that the log is saying that the commands are being recognised?

Typical, i just manage to get to 65/75, on version 4, and now i'm going backwards. :) Seriously though, this is my most flown Hornet mission and probably will be until i can consistently score over 65-70 on every try, with maybe the odd perfect 75 thrown in for good measure. :)

Thanks @Hollywood_315. The text message suppression works great and I can now run Bankler's Case I landing training mission with VAICOM loaded. For anyone else wanting to make use of this, just leave the 'Hide On-Screen Text' option unchecked.

A tough feature for sim throttle manufacturers to model then? ;) I know that the aircraft module currently has idle giving less thrust with weight on wheels, but does/will it allow ground idle to be selected in the air, "during high g manoeuvres"? I'm not sure that I'd notice, one way or the other, but it must make a difference, otherwise why would Boeing have included it?

Maybe take a look at the System/Advanced tab in the VoiceAttack settings. There is an Enable Log Quiet Mode option, with sub-options, that might help. I'm not certain that they will, as i haven't tried, but it might be worth a look.

Have the Hornet devs moved back from the Viper?
Greyman replied to Arctander's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I guess the only thing that has changed, since this song was originally released, is the range of responses that are open to the "hole digger". ;) -
Have the Hornet devs moved back from the Viper?

it was a simple question and one that does not appear to have been answered. i would guess that as builders, even hypothetical ones, are very unlikely to indulge their customers in online forums you would be forced to engage with them face-to-face. It might be amusing to be a fly on the wall, maybe the one that they are building, if you were to employ similar tactics. By the way, I don't have any problem at all getting my car fixed, probably by virtue of having a very good relationship with the managers/mechanics where i take it. I suspect that might be different however, if i constantly told them that they are rubbish at their job and how they would be better to do it. As for the communications point, the vast majority of the customers appear to be happy with how ED keeps us in the loop and if they were to spend masses of time trying to improve that, to satisfy the needs of a few, more demanding customers, wouldn't that detract from the job we want them to get on with? -

and if you spent as much time chasing these hypothetical builders to answer your multitude of questions and constant criticisms, instead of just trusting their ability to schedule their work, for the good of all of their customers, how much faster do you think they would get the job done? -
Maybe check the folder structure, using windows explorer, to make sure that you haven't accidentally copied a folder to a lower level than it should exist at and thus duplicating a higher-level folder and its files.

The F18 has two controller profiles, one for game mode and one for the more realistic Sim mode. Which one is used, when you load the aircraft, is determined by an option on the gameplay tab and another on the Misc tab of the settings that select game mode and game avionics respectively. Therefore, you need to make sure that you are making changes to the correct profile when you are setting up your controls.

Check out the videos, linked in the OP, but a couple of things that you might want to try first. 1. Make sure that you are running VoiceAttack in Admin mode. 2. Delete the export.lua file, probably in C:/users/<your name>/Saved Games/<DCS root folder>/Scripts and then restart VA and DCS.

Wishlist: fix the default pilot position like the DCS F-16 Viper
Greyman replied to OttoPus's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
That is correct, but why can't the size of that HUD information be reduced so that it fits within the available "frame". It would be fixed at that size and although the frame would be larger than the image, when you lean/move in, it would not be clipped when you move back to the more realistic position. The other aircraft manage it, so why can't the A10c? -
i learned a new windows 10 trick in the process, as i could find where that variable was used but not where it was set. Windows Explorer actually lets you search the contents of files, so once i had fiddled around with some search/index settings, i could find where the variable was set. I also found some interesting stuff that appears to determine the scaling of the A10's HUD, but i think i'd better leave correcting that to ED. :)
-
Nah, that was wrong. ..\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\A-10C\Cockpit\Scripts\HOTAS\HOTAS_param.lua looks like a better bet THRTL_SlewValue will be the one you need to set to 8.0, if i were a gambling man.
-
VAICOM AIRIO will only work with the F14 anyway and if you want to fly other aircraft without VAICOM Pro, just don't start or close VoiceAttack.
-
Similar in the Viper. If i already have the throttles back over the idle detent, before a cold start, i have to move them forward and back again, to "wake them up". I haven't noticed the same problem with the flaps switch though, even though i use that for the power master switch.
-
it's been happening for some time, but with menus hidden, it isn't as noticeable.
-
I've never used the rudder to refuel, but I suppose it might be possible to use it to "catch" the basket, if you might otherwise just miss it?
-
Maybe it's because it's only licensed for one PC and the account "knows" it is already installed elsewhere?

Air to Ground Misnomer? It has a ring to it and might catch on :smilewink:
