yup, i've finally just flown between all 3 tankers and all 3 allowed me to refuel and i didn't press the AR Disc button once. now, as @Ziramond says, until Friday's patch, all you need to do is figure out how to get off the ground without NWS or just start in the air. edit: i should say that this aircraft is awesome fun to fly and as well as getting better at AAR, i've also even been getting to know the radar. probably not a good idea to use any weapons in anger in this mission though. :)

do you see the AB fire from the F2 view? if so, then it is working, but there is apparently currently an issue with it that stops it getting to full AB power. If you are not seeing the burner, and it should be an obvious "flame" from the engine nozzle, then that is likely to be connected with that option on the special tab. one of the options, and i can never remember which, is the more realistic one, where the pilot needs to activate another control, as well as pushing the throttle forward. in the hornet, this other control is a pair of fingerlifts, which are levers on the front of the throttle levers that are pulled upwards to get the throttles to advance over a stop(detent). The viper has a similar arrangement. however, as not many sim throttles have said fingerlifts, ED have kindly provided an option where the pilot just needs to push the throttle forward and the AB will light up at anything above mil power and doesn't need another AB enable control to be used. therefore, if you aren't seeing the burner light up, then just toggle the setting in the special tab setting, reload the aircraft in free flight and try again. Edit: for the less-realistic AB operation, the Afterburner detent setting should be "Always off". if your sim throttle has an AB detent built in, then of course you will need to lift your throttle lever(s) over that to get into AB. let us know how you get on.

try "approaching for refuel", as the "ing" might be confusing it. :)
-
yup, that option should sort out your issue, no worries. Either that or assign a button/key to action the fingerlifts, but i'd go with the first option.
-
If the button is being latched, it apparently can't be unlatched by pressing the button again, even after closing and reopening the refuelling hatch, so it looks like waiting for a fix is the only way to go now. oh well, it was worth a try.
-
Tankers appear to transmit both if you switch to the X channel. Just saying ;)
-
Here's something you could try, if you get on before I can. If you get the disconnect message, try pressing the NWS/ AR DISC button and try again. It could be that the AR disconnect function is being latched like the NWS, so pressing it again might deactivate it. Worth a try Edit: I won't be able to get on until much later today, but it would be good if someone could post whether this works or not. I'm determined to fly between each of the 3 tankers in Red Kite's mission and fill up at each, which I can't do yet. ;)
-
Ah, that'll be it then. The A/R button is staying activated. I must have pressed mine to disconnect on earlier connections. I bet that the "you're full" message is heard when you press that button to disconnect, so if it is latched on, it'll not let you connect again. The same will go for ground starts, where you use NWS. The NWS function that shares the button is latched, so that'll be the issue. I wonder if pressing it again will turn it off so that you can connect after getting the message?

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305957/ courtesy of @Pokeraccio I know it's for the f18, but there will be a fair bit of overlap and it should keep you going until someone produces something similar for the f16.
-
Fair enough. It would appear that all WH might not have been made equal, but it would be good to see what you ended up with, in case it might help another Viper pilot.
-
Have you changed the game avionics setting in the Misc tab recently, as that appears to invisibly select a different profile to the one indicated in the adjust controls menu in game, when you load the aircraft? If it's set, clear it and have another try.
-
there isn't a centreline tank yet, so the only pylons that will take them are pylons 4 and 6.
-
with the throttle set bang up against the AB detent. the fuel flow was just under 4,000lbs/hour, at 41,000ft
-
because apparently the pilot can't change the code from the cockpit in RL, so the hornet will probably lose that functionality once a ground-based method is devised.
-
It takes me far longer than that to connect after opening the refuelling flap, so it wouldn't affect me much anyway. :) btw, i've just managed to fly to and connect to all 3 of the tankers in Red Kite's mission and only the 1st (Straight) gave me any fuel, with both racetrack and circle giving me none. It's amazing how far you can go at 41,000ft, on less than 3,000lbs of fuel. :)
-
as far as i know, centreline tanks have yet to be modelled in DCS and as this is a little ambiguously worded, i'm not convinced that the two-minute delay would apply.
-
that's odd. i've just started with the racetrack tanker and then flew to the circle tanker. both let me fill up i would have tried the straight line one, but as i took so long with the other two, the pilot apparently got bored and wouldn't listen to my request to refuel. :)
-
I've just been flying that mission and having topped up on the straight line tanker, thought that i would fly over to the racetrack one. unfortunately, having got there and getting connected, i got the immediate "you're full" message and was disconnected. I only had around 4,100ibs of fuel, so i'm guessing that this is just another incarnation of the issue stated in the OP.

Wishlist: fix the default pilot position like the DCS F-16 Viper
Greyman replied to OttoPus's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
yup, i remember those days of sitting on top of the stick and being able to see the whole HUD, but when ED moved the pilot position back, although it did put you into a more realistic seating position, the top and/or bottom of the HUD got cropped, for the reasons discussed above. moving your position has become a compromise and i remain to be convinced that this situation would be realistic. why would the R/L cockpit designers go to the trouble of presenting all of that information on the HUD and then not making to easily visible to the pilot? especially when the pilot is likely to have their hands full with staying alive and the mission objectives. -
search for "SPD BRK"

Wishlist: fix the default pilot position like the DCS F-16 Viper
Greyman replied to OttoPus's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I haven't tested any more, but i suspect that all aircraft have HUD information that doesn't scale. If that is correct then there just isn't enough room for all of the information, at its current size, in the space available on the A10c, unless the pilot is sat on top of the stick. So to solve the issue, without messing up every other aircraft, would probably mean that the size of the information would need to be reduced. We'll see in the not too distant future, if it gets fixed i guess. -
Axis Assignments- can’t configure
Greyman replied to Sfzobie's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
doing another repair and clearing that checkbox might still sort him out. it's odd as the game setting on the gameplay screen does cause the in-module adjust settings tab to select the game/easy profile and change the drop down profile select field accordingly, but for some reason, the same is apparently not true for the game avionics setting. -
thanks, i was doing the taxi training mission and when i had to get it into ELECT mode, i had found the switch to move between the two modes but couldn't see which was which. I couldn't see anything change when i switched modes, so i guess that PNEU flag and the labels are still to come.
-
how do you know which mode the altimeter is in, ELEC or PNEU? i can't see an indicator on/near the cockpit control
-
if your speed is changing rapidly, you will see the tape moving, but for minor accelerations/decelerations, like when you are doing AAR, there isn't an indicator that shows you which it is.
