Air-to-Air M-61 training mission broken
Pizzicato replied to Pizzicato's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks Tim. Definitely something to be addressed in software as opposed to requiring key rebinding, though. Thanks again. -
Air-to-Air M-61 training mission broken
Pizzicato replied to Pizzicato's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Hmm... it appears that I'm having the exact same issue in the subsequent AIM-9 L/M, AIM-120 B/C and Air-to-Ground Gun training missions, too. Everything's fine, but the SPACEBAR/trigger doesn't function in any of them. Again, this works just fine in the Instant Action missions - it's just the training missions that are affected. -
Hi guys, It appears that the Air-to-Air M-61 training mission in broken in the current Open Beta (2.5.3.24984). When pressing LSHFT+X (or aft on the Weapon Select switch on the HOTAS), the dashed GACQ circle doesn't appear on the HUD. It seems to be functional as you can still actually automatically lock up a target, but the dashed circle symobology never appears. The gun doesn't fire when pressing SPACEBAR (or pulling the trigger). I've tried everything I can think of in order to rectify this, but nothing seems to work - the gun refuses to fire. I've tested a bunch of other missions, and the gun functions as expected. Thanks Pizzi

Thanks Frederf. Is it possible to get the JTAC to lase the target even when you're Type 3?

Hey guys, I have a question about employment of the AGM-65E at night. I decided to make a copy of Wags' sample mission versus the 3 APCs, and then just change the time of day from 08:15 to 02:15. Everything works fine in terms of the JTAC's 9-line until I complete the readback. Instead of the usual "Report IP INBOUND" from the JTAC, I get "Cleared to Attack". There's no option to report "IP inbound" or to ask for laser activation. Pretty sure I'm missing something obvious here, but I'm not sure what. Any ideas?

Do you have any screenshots or video of your issue? That would give people a little more to work with than "The problem is with shading. It sucks!" It sounds like your issue is with aliasing not shading, but it's hard to tell without something to look at.

Throttle doesn't reach idle position
Pizzicato replied to airwolfmutley's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
The Su-25's engines idle at a lower RPM than the Mig-29's (~40% versus ~70%). As you can see in your image, the Su-25's throttle also stops before hitting the cutoff point. It's just that the physical stop is a little bit further aft on the Frogfoot. The text that looks a little like CTON (just above the throttle) actually translates to STOP, indicating a physical stop that prevents the pilot from accidentally shutting down the engines. Here's a good example of the same concept on the F-16: https://www.facebook.com/team.fighterjetsworld/videos/1631187856985234/ -
Throttle doesn't reach idle position
Pizzicato replied to airwolfmutley's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
Yes. Mvsgas is correct. What you're seeing is your throttle and engine RPMs at idle. If you want to see what the throttle and tachometer look like at a lower setting, hit RALT+END and RCTL+END. You should probably try it while you're on the ground, though... -
I'd love to see a North Cape / Murmansk map. I'm old enough that the Cold War still has a real emotional resonance for me, and the fjords, mountains and valleys of Norway and Russia are bleak and beautiful in equal measure. It'd be perfect for carrier ops, low level interdiction, helo ops, and... well, just about everything. :D It would also be a great callback to both EF2000 and Jane's F/A-18.

I don't know how this is going to come across, but I just want to say a huge, genuine, and unreserved "Thank you!" to everyone involved with DCS World. I've been obsessed with military aviation ever since I was a kid, and I've obsessive played pretty much anything that looked even vaguely like a flight sim ever since the early 1980's. I never dreamed 35 years ago that I'd ever get to experience anything like DCS in my lifetime. More recently - and more personally - I've reached a strange point in my life where I've struggled with mental health issues. I spent the whole of last year suffering badly with depression and anxiety, and spent the early months of this year struggling with suicidal thoughts. I eventually got to the point where I did something I'd always sworn I'd never do, and started taking anti-anxiety and anti-depression drugs to help get me through the day. It's been incredibly difficult and grim. I'm off the medication now, but I'm still finding life a serious struggle at the moment. Tonight, however, I took the Hornet out for a spin. I've been flying it since Day One, but something really clicked tonight. I did the late-dusk "Free Flight" quick mission over Nevada, and I was there. I was flying in VR with the Warthog, MFG rudders, and Monstertech table mounts and it all just clicked. It's incredibly hard to articulate, but it all just felt so convincing and immersive and real. The immersion of VR. The play of the sunset around the cockpit. The perfect material response from the PBR. The firm, tangible response of the cockpit switches. The shadows lengthening across the mountains. The civilian vehicles making their way through the perfectly lit towns and cities. Just for an hour or so in the dying twilight over the Nevada desert I was happy and at peace in a way that I haven't been in over a year and a half. I can't begin to put into words what that means to me. Maybe it's sad, embarrassing, stupid or lame. Maybe some of you will shake your heads, say WTF and laugh at me. Whatever. It's all good. The important thing is that DCS really moved me tonight. Just for an hour or so, it changed my life. Seriously. It changed my life. I'm back in the real world now, but I'm so grateful for what I just enjoyed. So whatever anyone else thinks of me, I just want to say a huge "Thanks" to ED and the DCS crew. You genuinely made a difference to someone's life tonight, and it's not often you ever get to say that. I hope that means something to you guys. Please feel free to share this with the team. Matt

Thanks Vitamouraa. I've fixed it in my original post, too. Thanks for pointing that out.

X-STOUNDS's launch trailer for the new Mig-29 PFM-upgrade is pretty darned awesome. I know it's highly unlikely, but I'd love to see an ASM version of the Mig-29 at some future date. :joystick:

It seems as though there are a lot of items (especially weapons/munitions) currently missing from the encyclopedia (e.g. AIM-7F, AIM-7MH, CAP-9M, AIM-9L, BDU-33, CBU-99, etc.). There's also a very wide disparity in detail between entries. Some of the encyclopedia entries contain lots of explanation and detail. Others feel as though they're little more than stubs. The encyclopedia should really be the go to location for all pertinent info, but it's all rather lightweight at the moment. A thorough updating would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Great explanation. Hugely helpful. Thanks Cik!

Hey guys, I'm curious to understand something about the behaviour of the 2C6M Tunguska. I was playing around with a mission I created to learn a little about the various types of Russian-made SAM systems versus the Hornet and discovered that the Tunguska seems to be able to launch SA-19s at you while still in Search Mode. The Tunguska shows up in Search Mode on the EW page at about 9 miles (when approached at 10,000 ft). It then begins launching at about 3.5 miles, but without changing the mode of its Fire Radar. The "issues" that I'm seeing are: The S6 symbol never moves from the Critical Band to the Lethal Band The S6 symbology on the HUD never changes to the long dashed line There's no SAM or CW symbology on the cockpit warning panel I'm not sure if I'm looking at a bug, or just completely understand the Hornet's EW symbology and/or the Tunguska's behaviour. :book: Any thoughts or insights?

Let us shoot pilots out of the sky after they eject
Pizzicato replied to Mohamengina's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Agreed. From my perspective, DCS is a flight simulator, not an Exorcise-your-inner-sicko simulator. -
I was playing around with the Persian Gulf "AA Sparrow" Instant Mission tonight. I ran out of Sparrows, so switched to Sidewinders instead. I managed to get in close to my target (not sure what it was, as it was too dark to see) and then launched on him. As the targeted exploded, I pulled up and flew over the top of the crippled plane... at which point my Low Altitude warning triggered for a second or so. I'm guessing that the ground detection radar picked up an "obstacle" in the form of the target, and called it as a Ground Proximity warning. Assuming I'm right, that was a pretty cool little piece of attention to detail. :)

Thanks Tippis. You're totally correct - the actual frequency for Sirri Island is 113.75, but that's definitely not what's communicated via the icon on the map screen. Thanks for your help.

[REPORTED] Waypoint HUD marker fluctuating
Pizzicato replied to VFA41_Lion's topic in Bugs and Problems
HUD waypoint caret at 000 It seems as though there's an issue if the bearing to your next waypoint is exactly 000. In this situation, the waypoint caret on the heading strip of the HUD vanishes. If you steer slightly left or right so that the bearing to the waypoint is 359 or 001, it comes back. I saw this behaviour on the Persian Gulf map in a variety of self-made missions on 2.5.2.20143 -
The ADF beacon on Sirri Island is shown as 113.8Mhz on the map. Tuning this frequency (in the Hornet) guides you to Fujalrah International, however, which also has a beacon at that frequency. Given that I can't pick up the beacon at Sirri Island even when I'm right on top of it, I'm wondering if it's either broken, not broadcasting, or broadcasting on a different frequency to what's called out on the map.

That data chart is super helpful. Thanks for that, Tippis.

Ah! You’re 100% right. I’m very, very hungover and very, very slow today.
