Found the problem. It was (predictably) down to pilot error. :) Turns out I was using RSHFT+RCTRL+i (Intercom) instead of RSHFT+RALT+i (Radio). I knew it would be something like that. I think I was thrown by the fact that only the "Intercom" binding shows up in the Communications section of the menu. You have to go to Throttle Grip to see that there's a "Radio" binding. For what it's worth, I managed to get responses to "Inbound", "Request Azimuth" and "Request Landing".

Just tried on my PC in 1.5.4 Open Beta, but couldn't get a response from anyone - even if just calling "Inbound" or requesting directions to the field. What were your steps in order to get a reply?
-
Hmm... that's interesting. I can't get any responses at all, but that's after taking off. I'll try an air start from the ME and see if I can replicate your findings. Thanks for the responses, MWD2. Much appreciated.

I tried Sochi (Chnl 3), Maykop (Chnl 4) and Krasnodar Centre (Chnl 17). In each case, I checked the frequencies and channels in the Mission Editor before take-off and was communicating with them just fine until my wheels left the ground.

Hey guys, I seem to be having trouble with the radio on the -C variant in Open Beta 1.5.4 (and 1.5.3, prior to that). Basically, I seem to be unable to successfully contact any airfield after take off. I can pull up the Communications Menu with "RSHFT + RCTL + i", but calling any airfield (including the one I just took off from) results in silence. I can communicate just fine while on the ground... it's just while I'm in the air. Is this a bug or am I just not understanding something properly?

What an HES joystick? I tried Googling it and just got a load of porn. :D

No idea, but it's clearly a legitimate issue. Good find. You should post in the official 1.5 bug thread rather than here: http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=440

How many modules are you REALLY proficient at?
Pizzicato replied to Pizzicato's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I really struggle to believe that there are 38 people who are proficient (regardless of definition) at each and every one of the released modules. The investment of time required to get to that level has to be pretty absurd by anyone's standards. -
Stating a cynical, disrespectful and highly-subjective opinion as fact isn't helpful to the discussion. You're entitled to your uninformed opinion, but you have absolutely zero evidence to back your position up.
-
Really? I've never done it that way. You learn something new every day.
-
You need to run the DCS_World executable (the seventh of the seven files you downloaded). That will install DCS World for you. Once you've done that, you should use the Module Manager menu inside DCS World to install the Huey. You shouldn't be trying to run the Huey setup from outside the program.
-
Is anyone else seeing this? Is it actually a bug or a feature?
-
I'm on board with this suggestion, too. I'm still struggling to see aircraft even fairly close up at Enlarged because I'm old and blind. :D

As with any other beta release, it'll come out of beta once all of the bugs have been addressed. There's obviously no timeline on that.

Pre-Purchase NEVADA Test and Training Range
Pizzicato replied to KEULE's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
The map is effectively a module - a purchasable add-on with a Serial Number associated with it. You won't have to buy it twice. That said, I'd be tempted to dump Steam in favour of the standalone. There are no real benefits to the Steam version as far as I can tell and you always end up having to wait a few days for new releases. -
Stupid question, but how can you tell if the game has successfully switched from borderless window mode to full screen? I played around with this briefly last night, but wasn't sure...

First point in the Steam FAQ thread looks like it answers your question: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=113587 -
Pre-Purchase NEVADA Test and Training Range

Nothing. It's just attached to your account now, so the Module Manager will know that you've purchased it when you come to install it. -
Good stuff, guys. Much appreciated.

Cockpit windows reflection map bug ?
Pizzicato replied to tob.s's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I tend to agree with that, too. It does give a good sense that there's glass between you and the world (which was very much missing when the Mi-8 was first released), but it does seem a bit overdone at the moment. -
I don't know if or when we'll get an official English cockpit from Belsimtek, but Devrim's mod is excellent in the meantime: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/668712/

Cockpit windows reflection map bug ?

Yes. Totally agree. I makes the Hip look really artificial and toy-like at the moment. Aside from that, it's fantastic. -
