  1. Yes Yes. I suggest reading up on "rhubarb" missions. These were low level, small formation patrols designed to find and shoot up ground targets of opportunity. Yes, that's one way to do it. How far away, in real life, can you see a grey/ dark-green painted car? There's your answer.

  4. MW50 has now arrived for specific Luftwaffe spawns/ airfields. For missions which are dated 30th June 1944 onward, there will be supplies of MW50. Mission briefings contain further details. .

  9. MAJOR MISSION UPDATES to go live at the start of the next mission (which will be about 2 hours after this post): v74 and v75 Combined updates to all missions. In order to facilitate the introduction of LotATC as the server's Air Group Controllers / Ground Controlled Interception tool, the following changes are made to all missions: The JTAC roles have been updated to provide ONLY visual information (no F10 map icons) at a specific set of airfield locations. This is designed to allow players to act as airfield traffic control, via Combined Arms, using the "Fire Control Bunkers" as Control Towers. F10 Map Fog of War has been added. Unit visibility is set to allies only. All units EXCEPT for the "driveable" units are set to hidden. The only units the JTAC will see on the F10 map are the ground units which they can take physical control of (Fire Control Bunkers). Aircraft will not be visible on the F10 map for JTAC roles any more. The bullseyes for both sides have been moved to the same location. Mention of that location has been added to the missions briefing. Placement of the bullseye is dependant on the specific target and unit orientation for that mission date. All AI formation pilots have been renamed with an "AI" prefix. Turbulent air will be present on all missions where there is wind above 3 m/s. Turbulence will scale based on wind speed and historical conditions for that day. Turbulence will be most obvious at low levels and reduces towards 5000ft/ 1800m. Flying at low altitudes will therefore be increasingly difficult on windy days.
  10. When starting an over-primed spitfire I can see the REFLECTIONS of the flames from the exhaust on the engine cowling, however I cannot see any actual flames. Other players report the same issue. Can provide a video if required for confirmation.
  11. I don't have the K4 module, but loads of players on the SoW server are reporting problems with the 109 since the patch. I am trying to encourage/ goad them to report bugs on the official forums...so hopefully more details will follow
  12. I think what people are doing is making comparisons to the machines which DID enter service in 1944/ late 44.
  13. I don't think that's what people mean when they refer to the IX LF (Merlin 66) we have as being a "1943" variant. The date that the very first one entered service is what people are referring to, I think.
  14. Hi people, Based on some quick tests, I have looked at the four types of battlefield commanders and determined the below chart to represent what each type can/ cannot do. I have two questions: 1. Have I correctly assessed the four types? and 2. MORE IMPORTANTLY, is it possible to have a Battlefield commander, or similar role which does the proposed 5th type in my chart currently labelled "???". I'd love to be able to have people use control towers on airfields, but NOT have access to enemy unit information at all on the F10 map, or to be able to order AI units around. It seems that specific combination of functionality is currently missing.
  15. Thanks DArt, OK, I think I've got things initially set up now. Can you advise how I can slow down the RADAR detection and response rate. For WW2, the fast responses are too accurate. I added the value "30" to the Tracking Delay field, but I can still see the position of enemy and friendly aircraft updating about every 5 seconds. How can I slow this right down? See image below:
  16. Hi DArt, I am in the process of trying to use/ install LotATC on the Storm of War server. I've run into a number of issues. 1. What is the profile configurator for? None of the profiles that I create with it will show up in the DCS "special" tab in the DCA GUI. How do I tell DCS to enforce one of the profiles I have made? 2. Are "configs" and "profiles" two different things, or the same thing? Do I need to create one of each? How do they relate to each other? Does the DCG GUI load configs, or profiles? Or both, or neither? 3. In the above special tab of the DCS GUI I can see two "Custom" profiles, however I have not idea what the contents/ settings of those are. Are these duplicates of the same thing? 4. If using the dedicated server, all the documentaion I have seen says to use the config.custom.lua file. However, LotATC runs fine on my dedicated serer without needing to edit this file. Is that right? Why/ how should I use/ edit that file if LotATC appears to work just fine without doing anything to it? 5. What does "minimal radar range" mean in the profiles options? Does this mean that any contact which is close than 5000m in a direct line (altitude included) will be invisible to the RADAR? Or does it means something ese, i.e. 500m away horizontally on the map? Is "minimal" the same as "minimum"?

Having now added in the speeds achieved in DCS by iFoxRomeo (see here: ) The update differential now has an even closer match between the DCS K4 with MW50 and the 09 G6 with MW50, at least for this one specific performance measure. The line that tracks closest to the ZERO line is the aircraft configuration with the closest fit (the least variance).
  19. I have re-plotted the max level speeds, which now shows the following: (nb. this uses the theoretical chart lines as provided by people in this thread. No one has provided the full set of verified actual speeds at altitude for me to plot) Then I've made a plot of the basic differential between the G6@1.7ATA and the two K4 options. It shows this: So, for the most par, the blue line (K4 with MW50) does track closer to the ZERO line, than the red line does. This strongly suggests that, at least for level speeds, the K4 WITH MW50 is a better fit to the 109-G6@1.7 ATA. Now, given that people were raising OTHER attributes such as acceleration and climb rates into their arguments, here is the deal: Produce for me, the same comparison chart for those missing values and if the same result is consistent for 2 out of three overall, then I'll take the results to the other server admins.
  20. Good question. If you recall, when we did those max sea-level speed tests for SoW, the results (with MW50) were: 567, 590, 582 and 583 kph. All slower than the graph (the graph does have the Dünnblattschraube). But the range of results we had was too wide to be reliable. I'd love to be able to plot the max achievable speeds of the DCS K4 with MW50 activated at a few different altitudes.... but I don't own the module so I can never test it.
  21. Just to confirm, are you saying I should be using the figure that I have circled in RED in this image?
  22. As per the title, is there a way to turn off the chat, server side, so it is disabled for all players (except maybe the server admin)?
