14 Spitfires mission on Storm of War server. 443 Sqn (10 spitfires) from Needs Oar Point to Villiers Bocage. 54 Sqn (4 Spitfires) from Tangmere provide escort cover -
No, it shouldn't. The historical data you show has TAS, not IAS. 490 kph IAS at 7050m altitude could easily be 713kph TAS depending on air pressure and temperature. .

Server AND SRS updated. P47s are now available. 8x P47 at St. Pierre du Mont. 366th FG "BZ" aircraft 12x P47 at Funtington. 358th FG "IA" aircaft -
Bunyap is the original :)

This is something I love about DCS. It pushes us in the direction of really learning and mastering one, maybe two aircraft. They're all very different from each other to the point where hopping around from air frame to air-frame can be detrimental. Staying current on type is a thing.

I've always thought that a moderate tempo version of "skyliner" is perfect for the big American warbirds, like this one from Les Elgart: -
Yes, this.

Hey Casteye, Due to the presence of Chalk sediments suspended in the water, the Channel has a really wide range of colours (depending on weather and time of day). The bright blue/torquoise colour you see on the DCS Map when the sky is blue and there is little to no cloud does occur in real life. Changing the time of day and the cloud cover will dramatically alter the colour. So actually we can't really talk about the colour of the DCS channel, because it has a whole range of colours, as in real life. Thin cloud, midday https://i.imgur.com/MoGOi64.png Medium thickness cloud, late afternoon : https://i.imgur.com/aeeEFBp.png Medium/light Cloud, mid morning: https://i.imgur.com/tVyHhvA.png Medium/ light cloud, early morning into sun: https://i.imgur.com/IGkAefC.png The DCS sea colours run the full gambit from grey/navy to torquoise and over to greens and yellows. -
The Yaw instability is definitely there. It will be obvious in my next P47 video... hopefully out within the next 12 hours.

Thank You! This sounds very similar to the "gate" type system that the early spitfires had to enable overboost when the 100 Octane fuel was introduced. Now I understand :) -

Hi guys, I started recording the dogfight video last night... very interesting stuff. I have found the Water injection button now, thanks for the help. The button does depress (it is spring loaded, so has to be held in the "on" position, it can then be "locked" into the on position if needed with another binding). However, I see NO change in MP or in RPM when the button is on. I've tried to use it under normal cruise settings AND with the aircraft at 62" and 2500rpm. Under neither conditions does the W.I appear to do anything. The "Water Pressure" (assuming this is related to W.I.) indicator does not move, see image at the base of this post. The manual states this: "Water injection is controlled by a switch, which is located on the throttle. The switch opens a solenoid valve that transmits a mixture of water and methanol to the regulator. At the same time, the automatic boost mechanism is triggered under water pressure in the supply line and the mixture is impoverished to reduce fuel consumption. The water injection system is heated in flight by the engine heat, which prevents the system from freezing in flight. Water injection occurs when the engine is running in War Emergency Power (WEP) mode. The pressure in the collector reaches then up to 64 inches of Hg, increasing power by 30%" Anybody got any ideas about what I might be doing wrong? If there a separate switch somewhere perhaps that acts as a master for this function? Alternatively, it's possible that the W.I. just isn't modelled yet. -

I cannot be absolutely certain but there are no bindings for WI in the early access version or anything that looks like WEP, or emergency power. I also cannot find anything in the cockpit that looks like a control for it. For that reason I believe it to be automatic I didn't take it as criticism, no trouble :) -

the constant speed prop governor can be disabled. In a dive or in fast level flight this allows the prop to spin up to 3500 RPM or more and the MP gauge will read above 70. However, this is really bad for the engine AND it also means that as soon as you get slow in any maneuver, the prop will slow right down, which reinforces any airspeed losses. However, as said in the video intro, I didn't engage any engine stress testing in the video as the effects of it are still WiP. Here's a low-res screenshot of the gauges with the CSP set to "fixed": -
Similar to what I was about to write. It's possible Arnold sent the instruction because congress had allowed appropriation of funds in April 1939 for 5,500 airplanes, some of which were to be bought from Curtiss. There's also that cheeky little note at the end of MA-258 saying that Curtiss could, if they wanted, provide the auxiliary tanks free of charge to the government. MA-258 is only speculative evidence that Arnold or the leadership of the Air Corps was deliberately trying to stymie fighter development, or fighter escort capability. There is certainly wider context that can be used to suggest otherwise. Greg's argument early in his video that WW2 aviation history "requires a higher level of research or understanding than most other topics" is simply un-supportable and seems to be little more than self-inflating hubris (my topic is the technical one that requires extra special knowledge). What's more egregious though, is that Greg seems to reduce the discussion to a technical one (and if saburo_cz is correct, making some technical blunders along the way), and he largely ignores the wider geo-political context beyond the internal issues of the Army Air Corps, something a historian would be remiss for doing.

I received a not from the DCS application which crashed tonight saying that "your DCS account has been logged into on another machine" I made no attempt to log in from another machine. Should I be concerned about this?
-
There are a number of other problems with the video, not least of which is his insistence that others provide original source work, whilst he seems to give himself a pass at times (he does do some interrogation of original docs, but still makes a number of un-referenced historical claims). I plan do write a full-ish response to that video but it requires some time...

Dear ED, at dawn and dusk it seems there is a previous of 30 minutes or so during which it is not possible to have the searchlights shining. Can you disable any time-bound restrictions on the lights. This way, mission makers can have the freedom to determine when the lights are on or off.

This Dawn/ Dusk searchlight timing should just be disabled IMO. ED should leave it to mission makers to decide when the lights should be on or off. -
I've noticed this as well, some of the LoDs for ships seem to be missing entirely. It's the same with the WW2 Naval assets.

OK, thanks, now I understand -
Ibis, sounds like a realism setting then, either in the specific mission OR in your main DCS options. If you're not experiencing it online, it's probably because the server you are playing on has different realism options.

Here's a crappy low-res phone photo of my watch indoors on a cloudy day. The watch is automatic, no electrical power source. Here is that same watch but downstairs in the shadows:
