It depends on what you use. With a FFB stick, the trim as configured normally makes you crash all the time: the Gazelle is unflyable with normal FFB settings. Instead you not only need to have FFB selected in the general DCS settings (which for a normal spring-centred stick you DO NOT want enabled), you also need to tick the extra "special for FFB" (I forgot what it is called exactly) in the Gazelle Special Options AND you need to set pitch/roll FFB force both to 0 (zero). Only then will the trim work.

Pixelated shimmering bands in clouds.
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to VampireNZ's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
I was referring to what Draconus talked about: the first time you load into a mission and/or module, since that's who you quoted. Good. Neither do I. -
I beg to differ. I could point to (very) recent release(s) that have both available, where Vulkan runs a lot better than DX12 with much smoother frametimes, and that's in 2D - VR is something else entirely. But as far as I understand, it puts a lot of pressure onto developers since they'll need to be smart in their programming instead of simply relying on the API to do the work for them automatically.

Oh I have noticed. It is in fact so much NOT of a non-issue that I never judge DCS performance (after for example performance improvements in a given patch) the first time I load up the sim after patching: it is that much of a difference. -
Eagle Dynamics, please remember your promises

Sadly a lot of what ED has been saying has been reduced to that. I too hope that changes at some point... "The most realistic desktop simulation of a MiG-29 on the market" ... uh-huh... as opposed to what exactly? The only competition is their own FC3 iteration. Not exactly an exciting comparison. Now if they would claim that about the DCS: F-16C, that *would* be saying something as there is an obvious point of comparison. But I don't think they will in that case, since it would be a false statement -
On top of that, it also depends on how you have the Realsimulator software configured. "BFA roll level" and "BFA pitch level" to OFF (which is recommended) instead of for example MIN makes a huge difference: I still get a response even I gently tap my fingers on the stick (even with the proper Special Options) which makes especially aerial refuelling so much easier.

F14 VR - VDI screen not usable in MT Version
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to westr's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes and no. Both maps are being made by (mostly) the same people, just under a different "publisher" - that's how I understand it at least. There are more details about it in other threads, since this has been discussed before. -
Sorry for the late reply. I don't have experience with both so I'll limit my contribution to this thread to stuff I do have experience with. Personally, I never had that happen at all. Sure the fan can kick in from time to time, but that's still not overheating - it's the overheating *protection*. When the stick does overheat it reduces all forces by 50% but you can continue to fly - and forces will go back to 100% of what you set them at as soon as the unit is cooled down sufficiently. It highly depends on the settings you use in the software and which module you fly. The most taxing use case I found is dogfighting in the FC3 Su-27: that thing has very high stick forces and no way to tune them down (as far as I am aware). But it is very obvious when the fan kicks in (it's LOUD) so that's a clear sign you should take things easy for a while.

We'd also need better AEW&C/EW modelling (check in/out, being given proper intercept trajectories, not being spammed with irrelevant callouts - I really don't care there's a cold contact 210nm away when I'm on a A/G mission) given the lack of datalink in that era. Other than that, yes to all of the above

Keep in mind this is the old "chit chat" thread, so people can post whatever they like in here as long as it's related to the MiG-29
-
Well, I love them... So keep the pictures flowing I say!

"Trim reset" is a convenience option for DCS that doesn't exist in real helicopters.
-
Well, the purpose of this thread - as described by the original post - is to get the "hype train going". It is doing exactly what it said it would, doesn't it?

Please decrease / remove repair wait time
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to v2tec's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Perhaps it is that, but think for a moment the kind of behaviour such measures would induce on the playerbase, especially in multiplayer. Wouldn't you rather see that people fly around with a feeling of responsibility for their aircraft and their own virtual wellbeing? I think there should be MORE incentives for people to behave responsibly in their aircraft, not fewer. This is a flight simulator after all, not Unreal Tournament where you drink a health potion and can jump back into the melee again -
FFB Trim not trimming properly
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to Picure's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I’m late to the party, but glad you figured it out. Generally speaking: for others who might have issues I recommend disabling controllers you don’t need in the DCS ‘setup controls’ screen, and using something like HIDHide in Windows to block everything but DCS and configuration software from seeing/accessing your flightsim peripherals. -
Did you have a really close look down low in Iraq? I was talking about low-level from a helicopter: Iraq has a long way to go when it comes to low-level detail. Look at small villages for example: houses are just put down in the sand like Lego blocks without any cohesion or connecting roads. It’s quite immersion-breaking actually. Yes Iraq looks a lot better than Afghanistan in the sense that it doesn’t have those sudden sharp borders between various ground textures, and yes it’s EA but there is a long way to go.

trying to get mms to move from pilot seat?
Raven (Elysian Angel) replied to rocket302's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
As MAXsenna said, bind it to the copilot section and it should work fine: I have no issues with it, but I do actually switch seats and pretend I have been there for the entire flight. I did check however and you can indeed use the copilot controls from the pilot seat provided you bound them correctly -
I'd think such a landing is a normal landing, or at least a 'satisfactory' one. My last landing in the Phantom was met with silence by Jester, but I was pretty happy with it because I was able to keep the nose wheel off the ground for quite a while after touchdown

Yes: both companies already lost credibility and goodwill, which will only get worse if they don’t reach a satisfactory agreement. Also, think of ED’s launches in 2024 and how they were received. Afghanistan wasn’t a smooth launch; the Chinook wasn’t a good launch, the F-5 remaster was close to disastrous, …
