  1. Totally agree with Hitman! And thanks for the insight EtherealN ... I never knew that ... Just reread what you said before. Does this mean that the CPU Usage in Task Manager (Windows) is an unreliable indicator to show the number of cores in a CPU?
  2. Listed in OzBargain .. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70357 May 17 - 20 ... Cheers!
  3. Woopsies, of course 4 Gb! My bad
  4. An i5 is a quad core ... and so is an i7. Mate (ETrader01), your specs are better than mine except for the CPU ... I run all the latest DCS products on my Toshi @ medium settings (I think its an A500 series, has 4 Mb RAM and the graphics card is a 'something 330M' .. @ work so can't check). But ... things really start to slow down in big missions. I'm planning on going the other way ... planning and building my penultimate flying rig ... which I now have a compelling reason to do thanks to DCS.
  5. And then ... using a mouse to flick switches isn't authentic either :D.
  6. It blows my socks off listening to this fascinating discussoin, plus I learn a bit (I think!). About the only thing I can contribute to this thread is to let the knowledgable folk on this thread know that this is (well) very interesting stuff indeed ... and it seems to me you're very clever people too. Thanks! @Pikey ... not sure what you mean?
  7. (points a shakey finger @ 213 and in a thin rattling spittle flecked hissing scream ... ) !!BLASPHEMER!!
  8. :megalol: ... we are all very anxious, don't you see. But hilarious nontheless.
  9. Another candidate for DCS World Here's a lead that falls in line with a wishlist (hint hint ;)) The link is http://www.white1foundation.org/index.htm Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but it seems to fit here ...
  10. Great work there Heater! I like this one a lot and will download when it's done. My thanks as well.
  11. My sentiments as well! This simulation of the P51-D is nothing short of spectacular. Mind you, I don't have a skerrick of real world experience ... it's all based on my interpretation of a reality I've read about or have seen on flying videos. I really hope that the Spitty and the FU4-1D (both part of the Fighter Collection stable) soon join us. Is there a collection of air-worthy Axis aircraft anywhere in the world?
  12. Oh yes, IL2 deserves a LOT of credit. What I was observing in my original post was that after tasting the glorious 'feel of flight' and experienceing the take off handling that here-to-for I have only ever read about, I realise that I won't ever be able to go back to IL2 without comparing MY experience when flying each sim. In essence, my new experience (DCS P51) has overtaken my old experience (IL2); which now 'tastes like card-board'. This is entirely natural because as quite a few of you have pointed out, IL2 1946 is a venerable OLD game, well deserving of a permanent place in the Great Combat Flight Sim's Hall of Fame. Hope I haven't confused the issue further, and certainly wasn't out to ruffle any feathers! Cheers!
  13. Just had a fly of IL2 4.11.1 and for me (in the feeling of what I believe to be the physics fidelity) it just doesn't cut the mustard anymore :(. It can only be because I've tasted the richness that is DCS P51.
  14. Well earned I'd say mate :D. BTW, my favourite aviation movie of all time is "Tuskegee Airmen". Very moving/heroic/human story ... makes me emotional every time I see it, particularly the scene when they land on the road in front of a chain gang. Very moving story ... also when Cuba Gooding Jnr. buys the farm and they start singing the squadron song as he spears into the desert ...
  15. No worries mate, really glad that you worked it all out! Cheers
  16. Love it Ali Fish. It'd also make a great foundation template for making something with colours e.g. This ... (Sorry, suddenly realised I was contrtavening Copyright by posting the previous .. however, here's a link to another of my faves ... ), so here's the subs for ya'll http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled-%28Leestown-Aviation%29/North-American-P-51D/1501640/L/&sid=bbaf496f62afe228b830ac8fc718d230 and this ... http://www.airliners.net/photo/North-American-P-51D/1370043/L/&sid=040f1be84de2828e8d75e68935c612ff and me all time favourite (isn't she a real PEARLER?), http://www.airliners.net/photo/North-American-P-51D/1286668/L/&sid=05c679067ff94c850f3a47211f9669c7 Mate, at the risk of suggesting the bleeding obvious, have you installed the latest Saitek drivers for that stick (assuming it's got drivers) and does Windows recognise the stick in Control Panel?
  17. This 'bunch of people' generally indicate it's a good idea because they speak from an informed perspective coupled with personal experience ... and sharing is a thing they do well ... just don't expect handouts ... of any sort. Really! Matey ... one word ... plan and budget. OK my bad, that's three words One more thing ... ED have a long and honourable track record, and some of the people behind her are well known (dare I say?) luminaries in the industry. Just think you should know that. If you're passionate about flying, in the combat flight simming world DCS is the BIG LEAGUE.
  18. Lol maaaate! :megalol: Excellent work!
  19. Most definitely yes please for WWII era aircarft (and early 50's props) and WWII era scenery/environment!
  20. OK ... so I caved in and bought the A-10. In fact, I plan on caving in and buying everything that makes it into DCS World vbg! Now ... can I have a Spitfire IX, a F4U-1D and some of those funny/quaint little WWII aircraft that the Huns and the Japs manufactured please (no offense intended toward peoples of German or Japanese descent).
  21. Mate, what's there to be sceptical aboot? If you don't buy it you won't get to fly it ... and discover one of the truly great joys in life (on par with wine, women and song). I can spend over an hour just doing circuits in the thing, it's so satisfying. The DCS Mustang, she is alive and responsive, a bit twitchy on the take-off roll transitioning to when the tail lifts, but with the lightest nudge of right aileron, she tracks straight and true ... lifting off into the great blue ... and I'm a focking poet but didn't knowit ... but seriously, it's almost impossible not to wax lyrical about this new development that is DCS World with the Mustang. Thank you ED, thank you, thank you, thank you.
  22. Leafer mate, I'm living the dream working as a salary slave ;o) ... but can't complain (and no one listens anyways!). Between work and test flying the Mustang (I'm over the moon with the latter), I only make the forums intermittently at the moment. MadTommy, you're right on the money about CLOD (appropriate name btw) and I hope the rest of what you say happens too.
  23. ... and to show y'all how I truly feel ...
  24. Oh yeah Macedk and Leafer. I agree totally! Build it and (my gut feeling is) they will come ;o) ... and Leafer ole buddy ole pal, we can be squaddies again just like in the ye-olde days of AH with Jekyll.
  25. Yep. That's what I mean. Once I turned them off, she's a beast to handle
