IMO I think there should also be a requirement to purchase a previous "anchor" software distro of the DCS series, e.g, you need to get DCS version/module x.xx before you install module y.yy ... etc. There has to be a maximalisation of previous effort to substantiate effort put into any single module; makes economic sense. You want it, you pay fair fair price ... :D

Close enough to Brisbane ... too close :D

No no no! The Harrier can look COOL too, and it does it much better than the A-10. It can also operate from within the field, keeping up with an advance making for quicker response times when called on for support. Here's the clincher; many Harrier pilots have a Brit accent variant, Spanish or Hindi ... which is way cooler than your average A-10 pilots accent, come on you have to admit that! ;).

lol! Almost 99% sure m8 ... but maybe I might be a tad curious ... maybe ;) Cheers!

Mister BoneDust, I'm a huge fan of your Blue-light cockpit (assuming you're the same person). Looks like ya can't keep a good man down! A rep to show my gratitude. Cheers m8!

Is there anyone here who only likes Helicopters

Its is a scientific fact ... jet denial is a manifestation of after-burner envy! :D -
Probably because the EULA might state that you have purchased the rights to use the software, but you don't own the software. The software is still legally owned by ED. It's draconian I know ;) and the concept originated in your country. The alternative which is much better IMO ... also originated in your country, was initially thought up by one Richard Stallman of MIT ... a stellar personage if ever there was one ... inventor of GNU Copyleft.

Crappy plane .. I hope ED forget about it! Just to balance this thread out ;) ... couldn't care less about the A10 ... have an A10 in Lomac and haven't touched it, nor have I got even the slightest twinge of a desire to fly that crappy plane (subjective perception obviously not universally shared :D). If you want a good CAS jet .. do the Harrier. Even the yanks use the Harrier.

Maybe not when you were pricing YOUR product. But your perspective is not a reflection of an indisputable truth. Then again, neither is my point of view lol! From another perspective, sustainable economics should always include a moral basis. ;) The value of morality is also the effect of the perspective of others outside of our selves on the actions we take vis-a-vis pricing a product for example ... IMO the actions of ED shows a moral perspicacity, even though some one might say it is not by design ... but the sub-conscious is something else again heheh. Capitalism is not sustainable, its like a fatal disease that eventually kills it's host. There are alternatives that are more humane than capitalism. Whether or not ED do what they do based on this consideration or not is irrelevant to me in the long run ... and it is not only capitalism that seeks to profit from it's ventures. I will buy multiple copies of this product ... without a doubt! Cheers.

The price is right from a western perspective. I am happy that ED price to region. It is the fair thing to do. Generally speaking the price that ED is charging in the west ... is UNDER-valuing the product. To my mind it should be more ... much more ... and if we want development to continue apace, we want the developers to be able to make this venture profitable, otherwise why go through the pain? Well done ED, and thanks for the sims!

G'day Mark, long time no hear. Last time (we 'talked') you were flying flying up north I think. So that's the new aeroplane you're flying these days maybe? Sweet!

Stop playing with it. It makes you go blind you know :smartass:

Mate, don't know about the digital download, but I recently bought both from the site above with no problems ... snail mail of course. Got it from the UK in about a week. If DC avionics is as high fidelity as made out on this board, then don't expect LOMAC to be in the same league. Still worth getting though, for a taste of that great feeling of flight and the graphics. Cheers!

Heheh whatdyknow... we used the term with pride! Cheers!
-
Heh, must be a relatively recent term then (relative to my experience at least ... late 70's thru to mid 80's). Even when I worked with US forces I never heard the terminology except with regard to strike aircraft.

Never heard of infantry being called "groundpounders" before ... we're grunts or foot-sloggers ... recon are grunts, and so are (spec ops such as the SAS, commando's etc), when they work in or under the the umbrella domain of the infantry ;). But yes, this aspect could be interesting for me, a chance to relive the old days, hope they model the Kiowa, the Huey or the Chinnook though.

Buy them both ... Maate! Get them both! F4:AF is dirt cheap these days; I got mine for AU$9 in an EB bargain bin. Although imo Open Falcon is the way to go for the most immersive taste for the Falcon series (you'll need the original F4 install disk), but to each their own. Fwiw, I've got OF 4.5 with Tom's payware HiTiles and the Aegean Theatre and am as happy as a pig in shhhh :D, and I fly Lock On FC as well. I'm certainly not an authority, but I understand that the FC addition brought significant changes & updates to the vanilla Lock On, in that one could view it as a giant patch. So I'd get it for the sake of completeness anyway. Cheers!

Kudo's to the Flying Dutchman! It's a fantastic show mate! Thanks -
Would you still fly helicopters if the fixed wings arrive?

Ah yes, with the amount of dung we seem to generate in copious quantities within these forums, a dung beetle can live a very prosperous life! :D Cheers! -
Good point, (there's always an "however" :D) ... if it were truly open sourced & GPLed we could institute an international panel of observers who'se task is to inspect the code and compile the executables pre-match. Top Gun/Force on Force ladders/servers/organisations of any significance would need to go through this vetting process ... at the moment this responsibility has defaulted to the game producing company's by default because their code is closed. Sheeeite! There's a whole multi-national industry there just sitting in the wings; no pun intended. I do like your suggestion re: product life extendability through outsourcing for quality addon's. I hope too that DCS and XSi consider these possibilities! As far as 7G is concerned ... is it really open source? It certainly seems interesting and the guys are talented, but I was under the impression that the source code was only shared within their specific group? If such is the case, I think XSi have a better shot at product completion ... at least here's crossing eyes, toes & fingers that they do (complete their respective projects to their satisfaction). Cheers!

Actually, given the depth & breadth of available information, I wonder why hackers, modders and developers with a fire in their bellies don't go and try to create something in the (totally OPEN GPL-ed) Flight gear project? Heck, I'd even pay a monthly donation to express my support for it. It's human nature I guess, each little sub-group wanting to do there own thing. Nevertheless, wouldn't it be great if there was a concerted effort there and we ended up with something open, improvable, extendable and analyzeable ... ah but one can dream! In the mean-time, the closest I'll get to experienceing the fruits of that type of collaboration in a combat flight sim capacity is through the Open Falcon product! Cheers,

I love long range strike/interdiction & SEAD. My aircraft preference reflects this bias. [**stray_wistful_thought**] The Tornado IDS would be great ... :D[/**stray_wistful_thought**] -
It's a wonderful prospect that we might be treated to a high fidelity F16 in DCS. I don't think anyone is taking the Mickey out of the F4 derivative free dev teams; I do think that the vibrant community of Falcon 4 hackers & modifiers have done a stellar job over the years, and there is no doubt that their efforts have raised the bar of consumer expectation (as far as combat flight simming is concerned). They have my ever-lasting heart felt gratitude anyway! Cheers!
