Holy Smokes! I spoke too soon (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87569). That'll learn me for making a stupid assumption about the state of ground handling/take-off fidelity ... (Note to self: Assumption ... making an ass out of myself. Try not to do it again). Anyways, thanks to those of you who shared their tips and procedures.

Hi Wags, great video, what's your guns convergence set to?

Cool bananas! Thanks Sobek. I should've guessed that it was something I was missing in the setup. New toy syndrome and all that. Unfortunately I have to curb my enthusiasm until I get home from the movies with my wife! ED ... you definitely rock!

I'm half asleep but couldn't resist getting the reg key this evening and a quick eval before bed. First of all, I'm loving it. I hope the prop era becomes truly well represented in DCS World. The Mustang is one of my all time favourite planes (the Corsair is prime tho) and WWII is a great era to simulate. I flew War Birds and Aces High for a couple of years and loved it, except for their lack of engine management. I also own Heinz' payware P-51 and Spitfire pack for X-Plane 9 (haven't updated yet) ... I see great potential for the P-51 in DCS. It doesn't yet 'feel' as solid as my X-Plane version (which is a real biatch on takeoff due to propeller induced torque ... DCS P-51 on the other hand is deceptively easy. But definitely NOT complaining, knowing ED's absolute dedication to fidelity I'm confident we'll all get there! In the air tho, she is beautiful and responsive. Finally! fidelity in flight and fidelity in engine management. CLOD just aint competition and IL2 is yesterday's hero. Welcome DCS - WWII World! :D P.S. ... and there's no "Second of all ... " lol. G'night all.

I really, REALLY hope that this project will be firmly in place within the next 10 years!

Sorry m8, I've no idea. Hopefully you can get your questions answered. I just think that a unified environment / flight simming world / leggo sim world will be the magical brew that will result in a degree of sophistication hitherto only dreamt about in a simmer's feverish version of a wet dream. When DCS build the world, and we get a stable of planes across all era's ... my dream is the possility of playing out the Air portion of the Air Land Sea doctrine that existed in the cold war era. I'm a cold war kid. Cheers!

I think things are finally beginning to gel ... a step in the right direction IMO, bravo DCS! :pilotfly:

KA-50 Black Shark 2 Training missions
Teapot replied to BigfootMSR's topic in Missions and Campaigns
@BigfootMSR, Thanks mate for your effort. I've downloaded all your training missions and will at 'em over the next few weeks/months/years. Your blood's worth bottling in my view! Cheers! -
This is happy news ! Starting box building process now. Ciao!

It's the best utility for LOMAC ... imo!

A Poor Man's Dynamic Campaign Engine

Ah Grasshopper of the red striped variety, assuredly the event never happened ... There was no witness, no F16, no AMRAAM and definietly no noise ;) Cheers! -

Thats one way of looking at it. Most of my role playing aparatus exists out of sim and it's all entertaining to me; FWIW I rarely use the in-sim provision of log-books when they're there. The reality is that all of us who fly combat flight sims play in our own personal versions of Never-Never-Land, and even *training* can be seen as a sub-set of the theatre at play. Sometimes it even extends into RL, for example I shave and clip my moustache every morning to make sure that I get a no-rash snug fit on my oxygen mask :D ... even though I won't come within a cooee of a cockpit in RL. Another thing I do is I try to keep a robust physiology so that I can withstand G forces ... LOL ... and when I take the family camping, we often practice *survival*, whether it be packing our own pocket survival kits, building traps, aquiring water, first aid etc ... who else here does this sort of thing as an extension of their simulation fantasy? It's quite strange behaviour now that I think about it, almost like living a dual existence! :noexpression: Cheers! -

Designing your own missions is not coding, just as writing an essay in a word-processor is not coding! :) I think a good mission editor allows a more realistic experience of a microcosm of the battlefield given the current limitations of AI and available technology (what we REALLY need is the holo-deck!)... the draw-back of course (if you want the unpredictability factor) is that if you design it, you know that there's a manpad unit waiting behind the rock etc, unless you're able to inflict self induced amnesia. I'm certainly not denigrating the idea of a Dynamic Campaign; however having never been a real-life pilot, I get my kicks from pretending that I'm training up on specific skills on a *real* simulator, which is why I said before that I really appreciate the TE and ME mission designers as provided by their respective sims. Cheers! -
Dragon m8, love it! Excellent work, thnx. Cheers.

Teapot replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
!!BLASPHEMER!! :D Heheh ... you're absolutely correct, I too have no wish to become a REAL Ka-50 pilot; but that perspective will likely change once we get a REAL fast jet module (NOT including the A-10) ;). Cheers. -
Need help with new CH fighter stick setup
Teapot replied to emenance's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Before I stopped flying sims (about 7 years ago), I'd made myself a wooden stand in a "Z" shape that slotted under my "flying" chair, so that my F-22 was approximating the conventional stick position for a central column. My rudder pedals hooked into the floor end of the contraption. I also had a conveniently placed re-cycled Nixdorf all steel card rack placed on its end for my throttle assembly stand. It was very comfortable, within *realistic* parameters and dare I say, ergonomic. This setup had the advantage that it was highly portable and could be put away after a mission, so that my wife didn't have to be reminded of my hobby when I wasn't *flying*. Now that I've begun flying again, I'll be making a simliar setup eventually! Cheers, -
A Poor Man's Dynamic Campaign Engine
Teapot replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
When addressing the subject of simulation, IMO there are many particulars that can be specifically treated. Any simulation needs to be clear what its goal is. A clearly defined goal of what we wish to achieve via the simulation package will produce the template and guidelines in producing/choosing that simulation in the first place. There are studies *out there* arguing that a fully featured high fidelity simulation (particularly one that simulates an air combat environment) is not (counter intuitively) necessarily the best approach for honing particular skills in the fluid/dynamic air combat environment. In other words, we start from what skills we're trying to acquire, then having a simulated environment that focuses only on that aspect. Having more than this becomes a distraction. To this end a fully featured simulator that models a *dynamic campaign* doesn't usefully target a specific set for skill acquisition, because the parameters within the campaign are *dynamic* and thus not able to be controlled to produce any measurable outcomes ... unless the metric used is the degree of pleasure we gain through *playing* make believe :P. I think that DCS straddles that area between a simulation tool and an entertainment package; and IMO (again) I find the TE (OF4.7) and ME (Lock On FC) to be much more *useful* tools than Falcon's Dynamic campaign ... My 2 cents, Cheers. -
Need help with new CH fighter stick setup
Teapot replied to emenance's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Lol Shrubbo mate! Probably the Thrustmaster rudder pedals with it's wide pedal placement is more *nut scratching* friendly than the CH pedals ... but the CH toe brakes must be a real plus. But the general positive endorsement is enlightening! RT, sounds like you're a CH endorsee too. Mate, it might just tip me over the edge and make an investment one day soon. Cheers, -
Best way to avoid incoming missiles?
Teapot replied to jason_peters's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
... or you could do yoga; so you can kiss your ass goodbye :D. Seriously though, I wonder what the general consensus on missile modeling is from the number crunchers; considering the OP it sounds like it's pretty difficult nigh impossible avoiding SAMs in a chopper. Cheers! -
Hope they get rid of them bulluts before they bring the Tornado as a flyable on the scene! :P Mind you ... it calls into question how high fidelity DCS BS really is! As I hear it among my military contacts, info about bulluts is still highly classified ... so ED, where are you getting your modeling data, hey!? :D Cheers!
-
Thanks Frostie. The Tornado has to make it into DCS sooner or later :D ... preferably sooner! Cheers!

Found this in the Cockpit Builders part of X-Plane forum ... http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=32717 Thinking of building my own, doesn't look too difficult :smartass: Cheers!

Wow mate! I am supremely jealous ... have fun with your new rig. May your fps be smooth, and your anistropic filtering be jaggy-free, :D I hope it's all that you hope for! Does this mean we can expect more of your cinematic talent to filter down to your fan-base? Cheers!

... as I said, these issues don't belong here. I do not expect you to share my political perspective, and I should not have to accept that yours is the only perspective. I have lost family because of political short-sightedness ... the first step of healing and over-coming hatred is to attempt to make some humane contact ... I have no love for your military, but I would like to change my perspective of the people of the U.S. ... as ordinary living people. That is all ... apologies for de-railling this thread.
