One of my favorite campaigns ever, thanks for all the work on it!
-
Default seems to instantly move the stick after you press the button, which for me results in jerky movement. Center mode feels better as there is a delay of a second or so between the button press and the stick centering, making trimming smoother. I can't speak to the FFB option. I don't think the Hind trim is meant to be held down like the Ka-50. It's like the Huey, you position your stick, press the button, then center your stick.

Yeah that seems like a lot of underlying code that doesn't yet exist in dcs to be able to handle that. But who knows, maybe they'll be able to shoehorn it in somehow. Either way I love it, I really enjoy flying without all the bells and whistles of the newer aircraft. And the Soviets had some really innovative ways of solving aviation problems.

That's awesome, I love Soviet tech. What a brilliant way to make a low tech moving map. Thanks for explaining.

In the pilots cockpit, ride side of the dash is a map. Is it just a paper map or is it a moving map display? It doesn't look like a moving map but the box containing it looks really big, and there are always markings on the map in the videos. How does it work?

The Crew is running great after 2.7 update!
ZeroReady replied to ZeroReady's topic in Mi-8MTV2 Crew Part 1 Campaign
No I didn't change anything, and I probably gave ED too much credit. Actually all I did was stay below 90 KPH. Of course the crate still swung wildly, but never got as high as my helicopter and broke like it does as soon as you cross 100kph. The only way to finish the mission is to go very slowly unfortunately. The cable will still break if you go too fast. BUT it CAN be done, you just have to be very careful. -
Happens to me about 6/10 times when I use snake eyes on the F-16. I switched to the Mk82 AIRs and they don't seem to do this. Here are some tacview gifs I made. You can see by my lift vector I am pulling positive G's when I release. https://imgur.com/a/J5z9DMz https://imgur.com/a/De5oQtg I brought it up in Discord and Bignewy said it's a bug and they're looking into it.

Search for Long Sortie Missions

Definitely check out Clear Field Escalation. It has all modern NATO jets available to fly. It's a persistent dynamic mission that tracks and saves all the ground targets you kill and bases you capture. Enemy jets will continuously respawn at 2-4 at a time. You can fly in it for as long as you like, then when you quit it saves everything and you can pick up right where you left off. Works great in multiplayer as well, been flying it with friends for a while. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3316256/ This is the latest version made for DCS 2.7, it's in the Caucasus map https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313323/ This is Scarlet Dawn, same idea but in Syria and not optimized for 2.7. Though it seems to work just fine for me. I just had to open it in the mission editor and put in a preset for the new clouds. You can fly these for as long or little as you want at a time, there is always something to do. -

Operation Piercing Fury is a really good campaign for the Warthog, it's free now. Most of those missions are 2 hours+, some with AAR. -
On the real stick is the CMS switch momentary or selectable?
ZeroReady replied to ZeroReady's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
OK thanks for clearing that part up. As far the difference between semi and auto, I checked the BMS manual and it cleared it up. Auto requires consent just one time, semi requires consent every time the jet wants to deploy countermeasures. -
I don't understand the explanation of semi and auto cms modes. Both modes select the appropriate program based on RWR. Both modes require consent with cms being "positioned" aft. So what is the difference? And does the CMS switch IRL stay where you put it like the boat switch or is it like our TM Warthog and it's momentary? And are semi and auto modes even implemented yet? Betty never says counter or chaff/flare.

Spitfire stick aft -> tail wheel lock
ZeroReady replied to Emacs's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Yeah I have a 20 CM extension for my WH stick as well and it makes everything so much easier. -
Now I'm not an expert, but I have heard that the actual links between the rounds are paper/carboard. I do have plenty of trigger time behind SAWs and 240Bs though, and I know those metal links weigh something. I just think it's amazing the GAU8 does what it does how it does.

If you're having issues with pedal stiction then, depending on your pedals, I would recommend a tear down and cleaning, and applying some nyogel to the moving parts. I use the thrustmaster pedals, and TM warthog HOTAS, and I always hated how sticky everything was until I regreased everything with nyogel. It's magic. Everything feels so much better with nyogel. -
fixed Some controls in orange. Cannot bind. DCS 2.7
ZeroReady replied to MarcT-NL's topic in General Bugs
This has been a problem for me for years. I've never understood it. Every time there is a patch, different controls become doubled, orange, and unchangeable. -

Spitfire stick aft -> tail wheel lock
ZeroReady replied to Emacs's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
The most important thing to do on landing is stay ahead of the aircraft. You need to fix problems before they happen, it isn't easy to do at all. But if you feel the wing starting to dip then you're already too late. You just have to examine what went wrong, practice practice practice. If you're reacting to the problems you aren't moving fast enough. It's a very dynamic aircraft, and landings are constant small and large corrections. Making sure your rudder is trimmed so you have no side slip will help a lot. Raise the flaps as soon as you touch down if you can, that helped me a lot. Then you have more weight on the wheels and less bounce. Try to touch down at less than 100, even 90 is fine. The slower you are at touchdown the less time you have to spend in Spitfire's least favorite configuration, which is rolling fast down the runway. RPM should be full when you are on final. The low throttle setting will prevent RPMS from being at full anyway. -
I totally understand getting bored with modern precision weapons. I personally enjoy CCIPing retarded bombs onto SAM sites, I'm a glutton for punishment. I was just trying to say that in a modern battlefield, it wouldn't be prudent to CCRP dumb bombs onto a building that you know the actual position of, it's not going anywhere, especially with possible civilian casualties around. I know we're limited in DCS in terms of what we can do. As far as how effective a CCRP drop would be with a dumb bomb, I mean you really have a lot to factor in there. How exact are you on the PBIL? Are you pulling any G's when you pickle? What's the wind doing? Honestly yes the jet can make a CCRP drop with a dumb bomb on a building, but in my humble opinion, I only ever use CCRP with guided weapons. I know this doesn't help with why you have such a huge offset and I don't have an answer yet for that problem, clearly something is wrong. I just like talking about jets and DCS, just trying to help.
-
Simple answer is don't CCRP with dumb bombs. No one would ever do that. We have precision guided munitions for a reason. Not to sound snarky or anything. But there's no reason to ever drop dumb bombs with CCRP on a building. If you know where it is and you have the coords, use JDAMS. I know it sucks the Viper can't use them yet and that's not a good answer. As to why your your TD is off, are you totally sure you entered the coords right? Did you rocker up and down back to the steerpoint? I don't know, if you input the correct coords then the thing should be on the thing. Also is your alignment good?

So I've never run the dedicated server before but I'm tempted to try it now on my spare laptop. Can anyone tell me if the laptop can still be used for other things while running the dedicated server? Does it use a lot of resources? Is it best to to just leave the laptop alone while it is running the dedicated server?

TM Warthog Collective Curves/Saturation
ZeroReady replied to CrimsonGhost's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I have a TM warthog as well. Right throttle is collective, left is corrector, or throttle, or whatever whatever the comrades call it. I use no curves or saturation and I fly the Hip just fine. I don't feel like you need curves at all. As long as you are paying attention to the buffet that signals you are losing translational lift and keep your vertical decent speed less than 5 m/s during that transition, you should be fine. That might be why you are feeling so much sensitivity in the sweet spot, a curve will always give you more sensitivity in some spots than others. Just try it without curves or saturation. -
I had been having problems slinging in the Mi-8 in The Crew campaign before 2.7. I had to stop playing it because I just couldn't get past a mission requiring a slingload out to an oil platform. Every time the load would just go nuts, swinging like crazy like in the screenshots above until the line broke. But after 2.7, for me at least, it seemed much more stable. I was able to finish that mission as well as the next on on the first try, both involving a slingload out to the oil platform. I kept my speed below 120 kph, which from my experience seems about as fast as you'd want to go while slinging, and everything was fine. The cargo never went crazy like it had been before 2.7.
-
Slingloading seems way better now, I was finally able to get the load out to the oil platform, and do the next mission as well with another load out there. The new clouds really make the Arctic missions feel just perfect. Such a good campaign. With a glass of cognac I really feel like I am in the Mi-8 flying these missions.

WW2 scenarios with spawnable missions?
ZeroReady replied to epoch's topic in User Created Missions General
https://akaagar.itch.io/briefing-room-for-dcs Briefing Room is a mission generator. You fill in the options you want and it spits out a .miz file that you then load up and fly. You can give it as many details as you like for a specific mission you want to fly, or leave fields to random and see what you get. It supports all planes and maps.
