Only when you tell him to look, unfortunately. I think there could be a better and more realistic system, personally, as the CP/G surely should have some agency in the matter. I've said it before - there should be a probability-based concept where George starts to identify targets within a certain range based on factors such as lighting, unit size, tree coverage, terrain, etc etc. Yet I can't see ED doing that for a long time.

Attitude and altitude hold do not equal an autohover. So no, it doesn't. Altitude hold is not implemented. Attitude hold works absolutely fine as far as I'm concerned. In terms of flight dynamics, my main issue at the moment is how she seems to absolutely nose-dive down when I reduce the collective in any meaningful way below around 50-60kts. The aircraft is utterly suicidal at times. BUT - Given the amount of time the SMEs have spent in it, then I have to assume it's accurate. We're all complaining about how difficult it is for us, but if this is what the actual pilots think it's like, then who are we to argue with them? Just have to get used to it, and master it!
-
It doesn't. I think a lot of users should start writing strongly worded letters to Boeing. As for hovering. I don't think it's as difficult as some think. It really seems to come down to setting your curves right, and using trim properly. The former being most important for me. And keeping your eyes outside on a fixed point on the ground, rather than that annoying little circle on the IHADSS.
-
Yes, I initially used Wags setting of 8 on the curves, but personally I need a good bit more. It makes a huge difference. But to each their own curvature value
-
I really suggest you re-watch some of Wags' videos. Particularly his last one, answering questions since launch, as he talks about this. Pressing 'up' is essentially your trim. Press it to centre the in-game stick and rudder in the current position, then return your physical stick and pedals to centre. I think some people are confused about 'autopilot' in the Apache, in that... there isn't an autopilot. I think a lot of people were expecting to hit a button and the helicopter would fly where they wanted it to go. I'm afraid you're going to have to fly this thing yourself. Personally, I find it better - keeps the brain engaged!
-
Yeah, I had this, but it didn't take long to figure out why. Unlike in the Hind, there is no option to turn off rudder trim - which I really don't understand. It would make it easier for those with spring-based pedals, or me anyway! So, I completely forgot that when I trimmed the cyclic, I also trimmed the rudder - so you need to reset the rudder to the centre position for it start having an effect again, in the same way that you need to reset the cyclic to centre. At least, this why I was spinning in circles for a while.

Well they said they were giving people a chance at pre-order while it was being uploaded. It isn't being held back for those late-comers
-
I suspect this is going to be a big download, if it's taking so long to upload to the servers... Lucky for the people who don't live in the countryside! Me and my 35Mbps connection probably won't be getting into an Apache until midnight here, haha.

That's a fairly unpredictable basis for a countdown Imagine NASA... "Lift off in 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4... 5 hours"
-
Haha! I think that was essentially photoshopped as a joke to emphasise George's presence in the front. The head animations will come later. Personally I found that image a little "Exorcist-y"

Is there going to be a SICK release video?
LooseSeal replied to Rasmus Højgaard's topic in DCS: AH-64D
I think he's just being facetious. Been commenting on "No" on threads for a while. Of course there's going to be an awesome video Every time ED does one of these it seems to be better than the last time. -

You're a delightful addition to the community. -
I'm hoping that the guys making DCS Liberation do a specific campaign in the Syria map based around Israeli Apaches. And/or another making use of the new Eastern areas I guess we'll see tomorrow as well, in a campaign versus IS operating out of that 'concrete factory'. Either way, there will be plenty of content.

British and Dutch, definitely. Can't remember what else exactly. Maybe Israeli?

What Helicopter Module do you wanna see next?
LooseSeal replied to Tank50us's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I really don't think there's a comparison between an experimental version of a mass-produced, decades-old aircraft, and one that never made it past trials and only had two produced. Whether it's public knowledge or not, it would be entirely out of place in DCS. Just my opinion. Anyway, it's a moot point as it isn't going to happen. -

In today's Air Combat Sim podcast, Wags did confirm there was another helicopter module "in the pipeline", so I suppose we can legitimately speculate about it (even if it probably hasn't started production yet) Personally, I'd love a transport - especially the Chinook. It would serve for a lot of nations and give us a great capability for actual players to have a role in logistical/troop insertion side of the dynamic campaign, rather than relying on AI. But my gut feeling is an early Cobra. As for the Comanche? Come on guys... The day ED start developing experimental aircraft that never went into production or service will be a sad day. They might as well do a Ho-229 for the WWII side. -
I'd personally make a safe bet on this week. It wouldn't really have made sense for Wags to be spending his weekend making Youtube videos if he thought he still had two or three weeks before release. Just seems logical it would be this week. I'd expect we'll see an update to the "Patch status" thread today or tomorrow perhaps?
-
Judging by Wags' "live stream" mistake in the Roadmap thread, he might be busy recording a lovely 'George' video for us right now! Haha. Honestly though, it's Saturday. I hope the man is taking some time off for himself. They all deserve it.
-
I think we have a reasonable idea of what they're planning. And it seems rather different from anything currently in DCS. For example, I believe their intention is to run a dynamic campaign which is 'persistent' - their ultimate goal being multiplayer campaigns, then that would entail anyone being able to join the multiplayer server and just drop into the action. So there would be no "next sortie" - just a constant series of them, with the action never really ending. That's what I imagine based on what they've told us thus far. So the repairs would need to happen in real time.
-
There might be a very small delay, but we're talking hours or even minutes, not days. Highly recommended transferring from Steam to ED, though. Just gives ED more money in the long-term, less to the middle man.
-
Seriously - what do you not understand what about Casmo being an SME? And about that video being part of the testing? You were informed about that several posts ago, and yet you're still complaining about it.
-
They're based financially in Switzerland. No need to go so off-topic.
-
Not Russian-style 'sanctioned' It has more than one meaning! To sanction something means to authorise it. In that context, I meant that Casmo had probably asked for permission to put it on Youtube. However, the thought of banning Casmo's oil is rather amusing. Ha! Yeah, taken out of context it does seem harsh. BUT - they aren't mere "people" - they're legends
-
I'm not sure we can equate a video of SMEs and Wags as "people" - if Grim Reapers were making videos with it, sure I'd be fairly annoyed. But that video was a treat for us from Casmo, likely sanctioned by ED. As said above - expectations = disappointment. What's another week or two anyway, after all this time?

It be close!
