  1. It may be! Do you reckon the white are flares and the metallic are chaff? I guess I was unsure because I've seen flare buckets on fixed-wings which are marked a red colour. Yet not on the AH-1s, oddly enough. Thanks!
  2. Hey guys, not sure where else to ask this... but it is model related! I'm working on Academy's AH-1Z, but I'm wondering - does anyone know what colour the individual holes of AN/ALE-39 are when stocked with flares/chaff? I can only find photos of them when empty... Aluminium for chaff, orange/red for flares? Might as well post some of my finished models while I'm here, haha. I'm a relative beginner, and an even worse photographer, mind you. Currently working on the AH-1Z, and Revell's new SR-71.
  3. You'd like to think the engine power plus the canards would give a sizeable advantage. Plenty of stories out there of Typhoons going against FA/18s and F-16s, as well as the infamous Typhoon vs Raptor discussion. I'm sure someone will be along with 'the numbers' at some point. But I don't see why it wouldn't win, with the right pilot. If nothing else it should run out of fuel after the Hornet!
  4. I'm sorry, I don't understand why you "doubt" something that IS happening, and has been in active development for 2 to 3 years now. Here's the thing - you've been waiting for 14 years, but they haven't been working on it for that long. So you've spent most of that time waiting for something that didn't exist. There's absolutely no reason to think it's not going to appear - why would they spend so much resources on it otherwise? It appears to me that all the planned upgrades/updates (AI, ATC, multicore, updated 3D assets, etc) is all leading towards a dynamic campaign. Indeed, I imagine a multiplayer-capable dynamic campaign would be their pinnacle goal, as it could define DCS and put it on a level all its own.
  5. The Marte is undergoing testing and will likely be integrated on future Typhoons, so we will almost certainly not be getting it. Also remember that our German Eurofighter will be A2A-capable only for quite a while after its initial release. This isn't an FGR4. Yet.
  6. Do you have the throttle binding the same as the collective? That would certainly explain the dropping out of the sky.
  7. Ah, fair enough! I thought you were replying to the thread and the idea as a whole. No problem
  8. For the UK (and others) - Puma - Merlin - Poseidon MRA1. - a better looking Tornado, and GR4 variant. - Jaguar And many more... In general, the world's oldest air force needs some lovin' in DCS The difference, for me, is that many of the world's most important air forces, like the RAF, are barely represented. It seriously minimises what campaign and mission builders can achieve. Completely disagree it's not worth their time to expand the base sim.
  9. The issue with saying they need to do the DC as soon as possible is... they need to do pretty much everything else first. The dynamic campaign isn't going to work unless we get a massive host of corresponding updates - AI (both air and ground) probably being the biggest item; massively expanded assets of all types - units, structures and infrastructure especially; updated damage models - especially for ground units; updated UI, and lots more fundamental stuff. If the dynamic campaign is released before any of that, especially AI improvement, then the reaction may not be especially positive... it would be sad that ED goes to all the trouble to create the base logistical/strategic simulation, then we start it up and all the AI flights just fly around doing dumb stuff like flying directly over SAMs or chasing hostiles across the map. So, for me, I'd rather wait until these core items are addressed before getting it. For that reason, 2022 seems optimistic for it.
  10. They certainly are the smaller things, got to give you that... Someone should compile a portfolio of all the things you've suggested thus far. It would be quite impressive.
  11. I demand animations for beads of sweat
  12. It's only been 9 days since his last update...
  13. Absolutely no doubt the current helicopter attacking AI is pretty damn woeful and not fit for purpose. But... it won't be updated by the time the AH-64 is released. However, I'm almost certain stuff like this will (hopefully) be considered a necessity for the release of the dynamic campaign. Otherwise it simply won't work, and I hope ED realise that. I love using DCS Liberation, but I never buy attack helicopters in it anymore because they just ritually sacrifice themselves by flying over every Igla and Shilka they can find. It's almost as if they do it on purpose.
  14. As soon as we see either the 'Introduction' video or cold start video, then you'll know it's close. Until they appear, it's impossible to say, so no use worrying really. Those will be some of the most anticipated 'Hey everyone, Wags here from Eagle Dynamics' DCS has ever seen. Side note to ED - release merchandise with that slogan on it. I'd buy it.
  15. Confirmed in this thread that they are not tied together.
  16. I would genuinely love some examples of what you've just claimed. Seems a lot 'back in my day...' kind of talk, with a heavy shading of rose-tint on the old glasses. So many things to point out - not least of all a matter of a mere decade ago, let alone two, it was extremely uncommon for game developers to keep in touch like this with a community via a forum. So that alone actually ends up building up expectations around here. In the past, we were essentially never given hard release dates until it was practically upon us. Hell, most of us didn't keep track of that kind of thing, because we didn't have the internet the way it is now! So in reality, we were just never aware of all the delays. Then also consider the fact that flight sims in the past were nowhere near the complexity of today - so your comparison is complete apples and oranges anyhoo. I also don't remember people in the past being as "now, now, now" and "me, me, me" as these days. But maybe that's my rose-tinted glasses.
  17. Perhaps Crash Laobi will gift us a wonderful 1-minute expletive-laden delve into it. An Apache series from him would be great. Just full of him randomly swearing at George.
  18. This one has been around for quite a while now. A few threads about it, one of mine too. It happens for a reason I cannot for the life of me remember (like a second night mission in a row or something?) - but a restart fixes it.
  19. Well, I'd say he's right about most of that. The only vague ones he's mentioned are the Corsair, Bo-105 and Flogger. I'd say those are pushing it for this year, but the rest? Sure, why not. I suppose we have no real idea of where Heatblur are at with the Phantom, but they seem confident. I'd also add, hopefully, a beta version of the dynamic campaign. Although we really need a progress report on where that's at. Perhaps the new carrier-based ATC will be rolled out, although I can't see land-based ATC making it this year.
  20. I always find it staggering that anyone could find the Apache an 'ugly' aircraft. It is a thing of animalistic beauty. And oddly enough, the dirtier and more battered it looks, the better it looks. Some of those above are positively filthy - and I love it. Sort of a pity we're getting a more or less 'factory fresh' version.
  21. I assume this is trolling. At least I hope it is.
  22. It's the same with all helicopters so far as I can imagine. There's no necessity to be fiddling around with the throttle after start-up. That's sort of why I think the Virpil collective which includes the throttle section is a bit of a waste of money... it's like an extra $80 or something for a function you use once, maybe twice if you do a shutdown.
  23. Isn't this just the ME setting 'disperse under fire' that's been there for a while now? I don't think they do it naturally, you need to tell them to do it.
  24. The gist of this thread appears to be - man freely and willingly purchases Early Access product on pre-order then proceeds to very irrationally become angry about his own purchase. I'm not sure much more needs to be said?
  25. I think it would be best to watch a video on the topic, like this one (and there are many others on the topic): It's possible you have some things enabled which shouldn't be. I can't remember right now, but it might be the SSAA and some other stuff?
