Customer satisfaction would take flight even if we had an f-86, a huey or an f-5 carefully treated so as not to introduce new bugs, which sooner or later should be corrected anyway.

In ogni caso, per quanto mi piacciano gli elicotteri e questo sia molto interessante, per come uscirà e con i fatti di RB sullo sfondo di sicuro non lo compero appena esce; aspetterò a vedere come evolve la questione, perchè al momento non è chiaro per quanto ancora ci si possa fidare di questo ambiente simulativo; senza contare che mettere il caschetto VR in testa d'estate, pur con l'aria condizionata, non invoglia un gran chè...

E' chiaro che anche alla ED sanno come sistemare il problema. Probabilmente non lo vogliono fare, così da far risultare che loro il lavoro di RB non l'hanno toccato e tutti i malfunzionamenti ed i mancati fix sono esclusivamente "colpa" di RB, gli farà comodo a livello legale...

Per me capita che con la patch del 3 luglio esce flaming cliffs 4 ma non il ch-47; a breve comunque vedremo.

I've always supported ED, but from these last answers it seems that they don't have a completely clear conscience either, so they are very careful and weigh every move to the maximum. They don't have to do anything wrong anymore if they want to bring home the result, whatever it may be. RB's, on the other hand, it is not clear whether they are more hot headed or more naïve, perhaps a bit of both.

Supposedly the av-8b is feature complete. The M2K was, too, but has been further developed after the AdA affair. RB intended to further upgrade the av-8b using F-15E technology, and that was one of the reasons why there is not a complete av-8b manual yet. Now the F-15E will never be completed and the av-8b will remain forever in its current state, at best. The matter will be "solved" a lot earlier than DCS 3.0, IMHO: the legal debate will take years and DCS cannot stop or slow its development to wait for RB's modules: too many new airplanes, helicopters and maps incoming, and all this bad story has to be forgotten as soon as possible. So I agree with you: at best RB's modules will expire with DCS 3.0, but more likely even earlier: when the bugs and broken systems have reached a critical mass, it will be ED's lawyers themselves who will prevent them from being sold in the store and they will end up at least in an indefinite pause. When the legal debate will be over and the modules will possibly be unlocked again, we'll have forgotten them long ago. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my prediction.

Are you sure? This answer is not so assuring. But I will be patient. I don't even have razbam modules. But I believe, whatever is ED policy now and for the future, that it's impossible to avoid a 3rd party to decide, as in this case, or be forced (things can happen in life) to leave DCS. ED plans on how to deal with 3rd party modules left orphans of their developer are important in order to know if it's a viable option to buy 3rd party modules or if, otherwise, it's better and safer to buy only modules by ED itself. It's not only a RB issue, it's a 3rd party problem in general.

Sorry if I insist, but: ok, if RB leaves, their older modules stay as they are: playable, but not upgraded or improved. That's fine. But what about bugs? DCS is an evolving platform. If one of those older modules acquires a bug with a DCS update (a flight model abnormality, a graphical glitch or a system stop working as intended), in the absence of Razbam who fixes the bug?

Can you explain this in more detail? Will they continue to work, but without any further changes ever again? And who will fix any new bugs? Will they remain available "frozen" as they are or will the ED team take care of them as if they were their own modules? I wouldn't want to see second choice modules, in that case better to lose them IMHO. Thanks.

L'av-8b non lo rimborsano e dovrebbe essere un problema legato all'antivirus. ED consiglia di mettere la cartella DCS nelle esclusioni dell'antivirus (tant'è).

C'è discussione sul forum internazionale in merito alla possibilità che RB abbia o meno messo una time bomb dentro il loro codice. ED ha già detto che il problema non dipende da codice di ED e che stanno lavorando per correggerlo. Qualcuno parla di dll con certificato scaduto, cosa che sarebbe già successa in passato (poi risolta) e del tutto accidentale, quindi si tratterebbe del ritorno di un vecchio bug già capitato coi moduli razbam; d'altra parte se RB avesse voluto mettere una time bomb avrebbe bloccato del tutto il modulo, che senso avrebbe far freezare solo il radar? A qualcuno però il dubbio che la cosa sia deliberata rimane...

Se fosse possibile magari: uno SE fatto da Heatblur o un av-8b in mano a IFE sarebbero sicuramente meglio di ciò che abbiamo ora. Ma dubito sarebbe possibile. Anche perchè la diatriba legale andrà per le lunghe ed è probabile che i moduli RB pian piano smetteranno di funzionare, prima ancora che la diatriba sia risolta, senza possibilità di porvi rimedio, e a quel punto ED dovrà necessariamente cambiare la sua politica attuale: in sostanza i suoi legali dovranno decidere cosa farne di questi moduli non più funzionanti ma ancora in vendita nello store, e qualcosa sicuramente accadrà. Il radar è solo il primo segnale: l'intento, ora, è di correggerlo senza mettere mano alla parte di codice non disponibile, ma bisognerà vedere se ci riescono, in quali tempi e se nel frattempo non salta fuori dell'altro.

mi sembra un'ipotesi molto fantasiosa. E' più facile che RB, dopo aver perso vari sviluppatori, torni a lavorare sulla piattaforma microsoft, dove il livello qualitativo richiesto è decisamente più variegato rispetto a DCS e dove accanto a cose di indubbia qualità c'è anche un sacco di roba più dozzinale ma che comunque piace, vista la grossa fetta di pubblico generalista che c'è su quella piattaforma e a cui vanno benissimo i giocattoli. Il problema sarà capire che fine faranno i moduli RB: se anche ED riuscisse a far proprio il codice sorgente, vedo molto improbabile (oltre che di difficile esecuzione, per vari motivi) che portino avanti lo sviluppo della roba ex-razbam: forse per il m2000 e il mig-19, che sono sostanzialmente completi, potrebbero garantire la compatibilità e il bugfix per le future versioni di DCS (ma scordiamoci un ipotetico "m2000 II" come è stato per l'a-10, ad esempio): in sostanza come sono restano, per sempre, al netto del bugfix (che comunque già è lento per i moduli ED, figuriamoci per roba non loro, ereditata). Uno scenario di questo tipo, a mio avviso tra i più probabili, sarebbe però deleterio per l'av-8b (per il quale RB aveva in programma un grosso upgrade, con i soliti tempi lumaca di DCS, che in questo caso non vedremo mai più) e soprattutto per lo strike eagle (per il quale stanno già dando dei rimborsi sotto forma di credito nello store, chiara ammissione e anticipazione del fatto che se RB salta lo SE muore e a chi ce l'ha verrà regalato credito oppure un altro modulo). Morto lo SE, potrebbe in futuro venir fuori un altro sviluppatore che lo riprende da zero; purtroppo per l'av-8b invece, se resta nelle condizioni in cui è, è un modello che saremo obbligati a vedere nell'ambiente DCS per sempre nelle pessime condizioni in cui versa, almeno per la sua versione night attack (niente vieterebbe ad un altro sviluppatore di fare uno harrier o un av-8b plus, ma sarebbe un modulo del tutto indipendente). L'altra possibile ipotesi è che tutta la roba RB faccia la fine del Veao hawk. In tal caso, nulla eccetto lo strike eagle verrebbe rimborsato - in fondo gli altri moduli esistono da un pezzo e chi li ha avuti ha avuto tempo e agio di goderseli. Sembrerebbe a prima vista l'eventualità peggiore e sicuramente tanti estimatori (di m2000 e av-8b soprattutto) tirerebbero fuori torce e forconi, tuttavia credo che alla lunga sarebbe la fine più rispettosa per il mondo DCS: che ce ne facciamo di moduli "azzoppati" per i quali il bugfix sarebbe ancora più lento e macchinoso di quanto non è ad esempio per i moduli "ex-belsimtek", che sono ED a tutti gli effetti? Si verrebbero col tempo a creare dei moduli "figli di un dio minore" che l'ambiente DCS non merita. Molto meglio, a mio avviso, una bella pulizia generale, fan*u*0 a razbam e speriamo che al prossimo giro la ED scelga meglio le sue terze parti. Quanto ai moduli perduti, pazienza. Ormai c'è abbastanza roba su DCS per farsene una ragione.

I can let ED know I'm no more interested in having RB as a 3rd party. Moreover. Even if they stay, they are doomed anyway. At least I can be sure that as long as DCS exists their modules will remain. At the end it doesn't matter who's right. Even if RB was right, they made the first public move deciding to discontinue support, and this can be a breach of contract. If ED removes the modules from the store, it also commits an anti-contractual action. Why should they, if they have a legal advantage at this point? Keeping this discussion open on the forum is also a way of warning potential buyers: if ED can't, we can. Of course, if the modules continue to lose parts and are not fixable, perhaps at some point the situation will change; for the SE ED is already giving some sort of refund.

The incredible thing after 88 pages is that there are still those who defend Razbam. Maybe ED didn't handle it well either, but I say: Razbam? Regardless of how this thing ends, Razbam is dead. It is a dead man walking. It remains to be seen what will happen to its modules: "frozen" as they are, with only minimal maintenance? It might be fine for the m2000 and the mig-19 which are basically finished, for sure it's not what gamers would want for the av-8b and especially for the SE. Maybe it would be better to take a clean sweep of everything with some refunds and hope that sooner or later the AV-8B, the Mirage or the SE will find a new developer who deserves them.

Yet it seems that they are not entirely wrong, since among all the third parties the mess has popped up with razbam, of which we still remember the previous mess with the av-8b, and more even before if you dig to bring out ancient memories. There must be a reason why when there is a mess there is always razbam involved.

All this discussion looks quite useless to me. ED sells the modules, ED have to find a solution. RB does the modules, if RB stops working the modules do not do it by themselves. Now it's up to ED to decide what to do: what would you do in ED's place? Some refund even if in the form of a "voucher" has been given, for now, law or not, I would be satisfied. The day RB is no longer in DCS then maybe, if no one else takes care of their modules, you can ask for money back.

Something possible indeed (it's the same that will happen to windows mixed reality in the upcoming win 11 versions, but this has been announced clearly, so that you do not buy a reverb g2 if you know it won't work in a few months).

Al momento posseggo solo moduli ED, con l'esclusione di Mig-21 ed MB-339; poi ho la mappa della Siria, che è di terza parte ma credo che il discorso mappe sia un discorso a sè stante (lo stesso sud atlantico, nonostante abbia il nome razbam sopra, ha ricevuto aggiornamenti pur con la debacle in corso). Per quanto ci siano moduli terze parti molto interessanti, probabilmente mi limiterò ad acquistare roba di ED, facendo un'eccezione nel caso dovesse uscire il G-91 prima che tutta questa storia sia finita.

Yes, but how long will you be able to continue using an old version of DCS, as new modules and features are added to the base simulator? RB modules would have life extended a bit, but they would still die over time (moreover no new customer will buy them), unless the dispute ends favorably and Razbam brings them back up to the base simulator (or ED takes care and - if not upgrade - at least update in order to be usable).
