  1. Honestly it comes down to how the user personally views DCS. Some people view DCS as a game, comparable to any other on the market, while others view DCS as a simulation of the real world or at least as close as you can get to it. Some people see it as both and some people don't care. The first two camps will inevitably butt heads over topics such as cheats and assists. I use a few of the default assists. Most notably easy comm's. That has more to do with the fact that I fly several of the FC3 aircraft from time to time that don't have manually tunable radios. I can just as easily switch over to manual radios if the aircraft is full fidelity and easy comm's is turned off. I prefer people have the options they want to have to make DCS more enjoyable for themselves. Unfortunately that can be a double edged sword, especially in the competitive multiplayer servers and that puts ED into a difficult situation. Which side do they support? They have made their reputation on the level of detail and realism that they put into these aircraft and that is how they have built their customer base. Many people are drawn to DCS for that exact reason and rightfully pride themselves on accomplishments such as learning AAR, formation flying, employing weapons correctly, etc. Some people just want to blow stuff up . ED tries their best to cater to both crowds as best they can. Where I start having problems with discussions like these is when people are outright dismissive of the other view or fail to even attempt to see things from the other perspective. Or they try to justify the assist or cheat as something else other than what it really is to try and push their narrative or point of view. often to the point of attacking people directly over their opinions. It happens on all sides of the argument. There are a few that will try to find a middle ground and I usually find those responses the most helpful. Ultimately it's up the ED how to proceed.
  2. @Super Grover @IronMike Thank you both for those tidbits of information. Always eager to learn.
  3. look for the "Lights Master Switch" in the control bindings. It's similar to the 18 and 10 in that it has a switch to quickly turn on/off the lights.
  4. From my understanding of a similar thread it is basically coded into the sim as a logic check or query from the offending aircraft. @Naquaii could probably explain it better though. Basically it looks for code from the other aircraft. is entity same coalition? Is entity(aircraft/radar type)? is entity transmitting? what direction is entity? is self in entity radar cone? display symbol y/n I'm sure it's probably more complicated than that. I'm no coder, but that was what I got from it.
  5. Some advice. 1: you are correct, many of those servers are squadron owned and open to only members. You can sort the servers with a few options at the top of the server list to help you find populated servers, servers that don't require passwords etc. Make sure you read the server descriptions to see what they are all about. 2: SRS has a server side application that has to run for it to work. Not all servers require this, but many have people actively using it. You have to tune the radio to the correct frequencies to use it, most servers that run SRS have a frequency list in the briefing or server description that tell you where to tune. 3: No one and I mean NO ONE, listens to the default ATC in multiplayer in DCS. No point in even trying to use it to start up, taxi, or takeoff. Too many moving parts for the system to keep up and many servers are running custom scripts that garble everything up. Ignore it and save yourself some frustration. This is where SRS comes in and most people who use it will announce their intentions on the proper frequency (not universal, still plenty of aircraft that will do whatever they want) Keep your head on a swivel. Think of it as operating at a non towered airport. 4: That is a DCS limitation, can't be solved by the server owners unless they know how to script. 5: Welcome to any multiplayer game anywhere . 6: See number 3 7: See number 4 8: Many servers have all aircraft available to both red and blue sides. This is done in the name of "fairness and balance for the enjoyment of all". Everything is fair and balanced in war after all . Many in the Multiplayer community hold the server owners hostage over this. If they want a populated server to account for the cost of operating them they have to be fair. (not all servers are this way). Some of the issues you described are exactly why I stopped flying multiplayer against other users in DCS. Some fun servers: Hoggit servers for cooperative multiplayer against AI 104th Phoenix for competitive PVP. If you ever see the term "air quake" used in a post; this is where the term originated from. Just Dogfight (pretty self explanatory) Growling sidewinder (pretty much same as above with some BVR mixed in) There are a few others that are popular too.
  6. Yes, she really rolls that fast. Up to 720 degrees per second. The real pilots had artificial restrictions placed to prevent exactly what you experienced along with preventing damage to the airframe.
  7. Usually you want to take off into the wind. Doing so provides some extra lift for free. You do not need to have wind in your mission if the Carrier is moving fast enough. Set it between 25-30 knots.

    DCS 2.7

They already warned us that this update could take longer in the Newsletter from Friday last week. https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/254461-official-news-2021/?do=findComment&comment=4590333 I'm sure they are working to get the update out as soon as it's feasible.
  9. ED hasn't given us anything concrete yet. I think the 2.7 update has pushed back a few of the new modules this year. My guess would be end of the year if not early-mid 2022, but i'm usually fairly conservative in my guesses to avoid disappointing myself
  10. From the February 26th news letter. https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/254461-official-news-2021/?do=findComment&comment=4583773
  11. You're welcome Ted and welcome to the Forum! Glad we could help :).
  12. F11 by default is your free camera view. Use LCtrl + F11 it center it around your aircraft. Use your center mouse wheel to control forward and aft movement and speed. Use the pause/break key to pause the simulation, Left Win + Pause/break for active pause.
  13. Kiowas would probably be the primary source for buddy lasing in that scenario, however, you can have an 18, 16, 10, or AV-8 lase for the Apache, they can still talk to each other via radios, just not digitally share targeting data directly. They could probably do that via JSTARS though. Too bad we don't have that in DCS.
  14. FCR = Fire Control Radar According to the market piece from the manufacturer it looks like our version of the Longbow radar will not have 360 degree targeting capability since that was a recent upgrade applied to the AH-64E, but I could easily be wrong about that. it is capable of both AA and AG as far as I know the apache doesn't have link16, but it should be able to talk to other Apaches, Kiowas, and land units. with an 8km range it probably won't be very useful for AWACS duties.
  15. At this point I would assume it's safe to say we won't see any modules released until after 2.7 hits beta and maybe after it's first stable build. That being said, the new screenshots of the Marianas map look awesome. Can't wait to fly over that in rainy conditions with the new clouds.
  16. I'll take your word for it, haha.
  17. What may seem like tedium to those who have done it in reality, is pure joy for those of us who haven't. At least the first couple of times, after that we get tired of it too .
  18. I stand corrected, 1989 was a little before my time. Still, to see it come to life in a more modern Sim would be a nice surprise.
  19. There is a menu item that allows you to unlock the + cursor and move it around using your mouse in VR. that is how I reach those areas of the cockpit. It still requires turning your head, but at least your aren't trying to break your neck in the process. I'm at work right now, so unfortunately I can't tell you the exact option it is. If I remember correctly its in the VR menu tab. Every thing else I try to map to my HOTAS.
  20. Sigh... We all knew the A-6 was coming. Heatblur said as much the day they released the trailer with their plans to move from AI to FF. It makes sense, they had the Grumman license to make the 14, might as well make the A-6. I just hope it leads eventually to an F-111 and that it comes sooner rather than later assuming they can even get a license to make one. I just don't want it to be 15 years down the line, given their track record for completion times. Not that that is a horrible thing, it definitely shows in their amazing work. All the other wish list items are great, but I can't think of one Sim that ever really put you into a combat role in the 111. The Tornado has been done already, the F-4 has been done already, etc. Oh well, one can hope and dream.
  22. @3WA Just an FYI, those of us in the DCS ground crew are not employed by Eagle Dynamics. We are simply volunteer greeters or a helpful hand if someone comes across issues. We do our best to help when possible but, we are still customers of DCS and volunteer our opinions from time to time. I would love to see more variety in ground assets within the sim. Armor modules would be great to experience, especially now that 4 player multi crew is available. But, what would the demand be for such a module? Is it worth it to spend the time to code such a module? Do the physics of the engine allow for a detailed module to be built and handle correctly on the ground? How long would it take to realistically model the huge number of assets that people would demand? How would scaling work? Is the terrain modeling high enough in fidelity to create an immersive experience? These are things that could take years to create depending on what the community wants and you only have to spend a little time on the forums to figure out how people feel about fidelity, realism (as far as it can be taken anyways), and immersion. If this new team is dead set on moving forward then I would gladly pay $20.00 or $25.00 for an asset pack if there was enough meat to it. I think a detailed ground war is fairly far away if you want to go as far as infantry though, at least, as far as a first person experience goes.
  23. Stalinium is the word you are looking for . Currently DCS doesn't model the kind of damage you are looking for. the Blast is only applied to the shelter object itself. Would be amazing to see in the sim someday, but if you are looking to destroy the aircraft inside you have to angle the desired munition into the entrance of the shelter.
  24. Would love to see this bird in the Sim, ED isn't likely to make it so... Help us Cobra-Wan Kenobi. Your our only hope.
  25. That would depend on how you intend to use the Carrier. Since it is not technically operated in the same way that you would an aircraft, you would not be able to "drive" it around the map without access to the Combined Arms module. Technically any aircraft can operate off of the carrier if the pilot is "skilled" enough, but that will require you to create your own mission in the mission editor. If you are looking for missions that are already made for you, then you will need to buy an aircraft module that has those missions included. The F-18 has the most missions available at the moment by default if I remember correctly. It is not a requirement to own the F-18 though.
