  1. Not trashing the game, I have loved DCS for years probably will for many years to come. I tried to help a guy on Facebook a few weeks ago who was asking what VR headset or tracking he should buy to go with his system and get decent frames. The poor guy was actually under the assumption that he would be able to run a VR headset on the minimum system specs quoted on the website. After following peoples advice to download it try the free aircraft and be careful with his expectations he did and decided to uninstall. They either need to sort out the performance problems or change the recommended specs to more reflect reality. Anyway I’m going to go and fly and manage my expectations They aren’t trying to sell modules on the back of that software though are they
  2. I remember a conversation I had with my mother in law years ago. There was an advert on the notice board of the block of flats advertising a subotnik that weekend in the yard. I said to the mother in law are you going to go and help should I go ? And she said to me “For what should I do someone else’s work for nothing that I have already paid them to do myself” Maybe they should sort it out themselves as they have been paid and not depend on the community to sort it out.
  3. So did I, it actually annoyed me as they have been promising performance improvements for the past few months. I fly 2d and and I’m making baby steps into VR. Any improvement I fear will be swallowed up in “features” that should have no affect on performance. I feel for people new to DCS who spent money on a computer before the last update and then lost 10% performance for no benefit. It must be soul destroying. They wouldn’t sell any modules then when people see how their system really performs
  4. Thanks for the tips, my son is using my vr for Minecraft atm so I won’t get chance to do anything till later. I’ve got a couple of drives with windows and dcs scattered about I’m going to do a full windows reinstall and get my drivers and such like sorted before I do anymore tuning. I think I’m just chasing my tail at the moment
  5. If you read the penultimate post on a similar thread BN told us to be patient while we wait until the multicore performance updates. So yea the loss in performance is going to stay until they release multicore sometime in the future. I asked if they are going to release any patches in the meantime which reduce performance and if they will release any optimisation in the near future and there was no answer. They know about the performance loss it’s been “reported” maybe they are just choosing to ignore it hoping that any multicore performance increase will absorb it. I am very very worried that when they do release multicore or vulkan that all these performance bugs will stay and wipe out any gains we get. I wonder could someone from ED confirm that they will sort out the performance bugs before they release multicore as otherwise we are just going to be in the same position.
  6. I get you, would you say it’s the same as tuning performance for track ir unlock while you tune, get headroom and then lock (ASW). What I’m also trying to work out is if I’m doing stuff in a logical order. OTT or ODT does DCS need to be running in vr before you restart the oculus program for the settings to take ? should Ignore both of them and just work with the multiplyer in quest settings ?
  7. Hi thanks I’ll give those a try. I have one more question, If turn off ASW using lctl num1 it displays a higher frame rate. Is the the frame rate for one eye or total for both? I understand with ASW on it’s one eye.
  8. Hi I just got a Quest 2 I’ve got a 3060, 64gb ram i59600k @ 5.0. I’m just getting my head round the settings I’ve got a baseline but I suffer very badly from shimmer. Im already using 2x MSAA and that’s my limit. Is there any setting in OTT or the Quest software (I’ve got that slider to the right and it’s on 72) that can reduce shimmer. In cockpit I have great gauges and visuals, it’s outside I have trouble. Everything outside a 20 m radius shimmers. I would like to sacrifice some cockpit clarity and have more terrain clarity is it possible to do?
  9. Is ED going to be pushing any more patches which affect performance in the meantime? or will there be patches with any optimisation before multicore improvements come about ? Just wondering, reading between the lines from your post it seems that’s the only optimisation we can expect.
  10. Cool sorry to bring it up again. It’s not really an issue for me as such but I was wondering if it needed pointing out.
  11. Dunno if this has been posted but I was a little to close to another aircraft in taxi with heat blur on in settings. I know it’s hot but is the hud information supposed to shimmer with the heat blur, it’s inside behind glass. see the pictures. Does it do that in the real aircraft.
  12. Have you got the munchies
  13. Yes latest beta FPS decreased from steady 80 to 65 sometimes dropping to 50’s vsync off. With vsync on fixed at 60 with drops to 50 in Syria. i5 9600k no overclock RTX 3060 slight afterburner overclock 32gb RAM 3600 SSD/NVME up to the eyeballs
  14. Sorry I wasn’t much more help, I thought if the textures were staying then maybe it was doubling the amount of resources running
  15. If it happens again I’ll pull the dcs log.
  16. I was thinking along the same lines the other day, why not give a lot more granular graphic settings all over the board for people using beta. We can actually test settings and provide feedback and reduce the amount for stable release or keep them with an advanced option
  17. If you alt-tab to change window, if it takes more than half a second to change then you were in full screen mode, if it doesn’t you weren’t in full screen mode. Press left alt enter to then put you in full screen mode.
  18. I’ve made a new topic because I didn’t want to seem that I was belittling peoples problems with performance. I am one of the people who have been perturbed about loss of performance over the past few updates. I have suffered a few problems since my return to the hobby with visuals, a lot of shimmering stutters and the problems we all know about. My system specs are i5 9600k not overclocked 32gb matched Klevv ram 3600 Pallit RTX 3060 storm x (single fan) with afterburner auto overclock MSI gaming pro 390 mother board NVME and ssd for OS and DCS etc. I was getting annoyed with shimmering and the last link in the chain for me was to change my monitor, I found a good cheap 4k benq monitor in CEX and grabbed it with a display port cable with the intention of running it at 1080. Obviously I got it home and tried to see if I could run DCS in 4k on my existing settings and I was pleasantly surprised that it ran at 25-30 fps but it was stuttering due to overwork after a few minutes flying. The visuals were stunning though even on those lower settings. So I set everything to 1080 and obviously now I wasn’t happy because I had just seen 4k I decided to try at 1440 not expecting much luck either but was pleasantly surprised again to be able to run stable 60fps. When I make a hardware change I usually start on medium settings and add eye candy from there on, I found at 1440 I could get away with 2x MSAA and the better visuals made me ignore the shimmering that remained, I could use 2x MSAA and it would be same as though I was using 4x at 1080 if that makes sense. Pictures speak better than words so I’ve attached some here so you can see my settings in DCS, NVidia. I will attach a track file for the mission I used to test (please excuse my bad distracted flying) I’ll try and get some images later and probably add to this post at a later time. I could probably supply a log file if it’s of any interest to anyone. I dropped on these settings by pure luck and there is no scientific/logical process to how I arrived at them, I just think they may help someone who has a similar or the same hardware. And I’ll ask again please ignore my shocking flying (I don’t need advice just understanding) And I forgot the photos …. this is my specs I’ll insert Miz file and track when I’m on my computer DCS settings Nvidia Second page nvidia
  19. I’ve put some screen shots here of my NVidia panel, dcs settings and a photo for quality. system specs i5 9600k no overclock RTX 3060 32gb 3600 RAM 250 gb NVME windows disk 1tb SSD with dcs install 120 gb SSD scratch/page file only I’ll attach a track file later when I can fly, is there any preferred mission or would you just like my testing mission?
  20. I’ll have a look to see if it’s enabled
  21. All that was in the update eye candy wise was a different effect to water. Apart from that nothing visual (yeah I can understand flying f16 with ground radar may cause a hit but I’m not) The argument of more eye candy = upgrade is false if the patch didn’t have any new eye candy, in this case it had a small adjustment to water. Before the patch I had locked 60 fps over incirlik Adana and over Damascus/Beirut now it is dropping to 55 in those areas causing stutter and murder with head tracking. If I didn’t have vsync enabled prior to the patch it was was running at 70fps so I locked it at 60. After the patch it barely stays at 60, no change to settings. If I reduce the water from medium to low it still has the same drop in fps with the dodgy edges over water and in clouds. This is all single player with not many units on the map, mission that have made in previous patches ran at 60fps now run at 45. My biggest problem is shimmering, to stop the shimmering I have to use 4xMSAA if I use any other antialiasing it’s at 30fps. If I could get away with using 2x MSAA I would have some room to manoeuvre in other settings. How about fixing the the problems that were there instead of adding to them, was that memory leak in Syria ever fixed, the trimmer on the hind ever fixed, the vram issue with Syria was it ever fixed, the death rays from the sun blowing all contrast out and shining of every surface it’s all been forgotten about because apache, the problems will still be there when it’s released. I very much doubt any of these problems and the ones highlighted in this topic will ever get fixed before it goes to stable.
  22. I’m holding off on this one I saw a lot of stuttering on the videos wags released, and if it’s stuttering on their systems what hope do we have
  23. Every few years yes, but the time is getting shorter much shorter. When you have this generation “matched” hardware and the performance still drops its going a bit far. I can understand with the leap to 2.7 there was a performance hit, but it seems every patch is creating more performance problems for a lot of people. There was talk of some performance tweaks, the RAM leak on Syria for example, the filling of peoples GPU memory in basic missions. People with 3090 cards having to turn down the settings they previously used. It’s time to optimise to keep the customers you already have. What’s the point to buy a new module if I’m not going to able to run it reasonably
  24. The money that would be spent on modules is going into GPU scalpers pockets and not ED. New eye candy is great but when I have to “change my expectations” on the latest generation of GPU I am not seeing the eye candy that I’m losing performance for. I will hold off on purchase until I see the performance on some lesser known YouTubers computers which are usually more comparable to my own hardware.
