  1. I just downloaded the UFC / AMPCD version. Well worth the $3.50. Very easy setup and got it working within 5 minutes. I bought a small android tablet and it meets my need for a ampcd and UFC on one device. Touchscreen is almost instantaneous. Overall an excellent app.
  2. Thank you for the quick response.
  3. Hi Colo, This looks like a great app. I'm interested in this for the UFC and AMPCD. Is it possible to display both on the same tablet at the moment? If not, are there any plans for this functionality? Many thanks.
  4. I haven't heard of this at all. A reinstall may help. Perhaps fly some normal missions and see how that goes. FWIW, The training missions aren't that great at the moment. Plenty of good content on youtube that can help train you better.
  5. Agree - it's why I bought the Normandy map.
  6. DeltaMike, I'm definitely not doing it right! But it's my sim and I'll fly it anyway I want
  7. I think they've worked out that this is probably the most efficient way to get something done. Moving to monthly updates for the Hornet should hopefully make the process smoother and less buggy.
  8. I find what helps is delaying setting Flaps tp FULL until the IAS is around 180-200kts. Not sure if this is how it is done in R/L but the plane is more stable. I have to admit I haven't flown since the latest patch.
  9. I concur about just using OB if space is tight. If the OB update has a really bad bug, ED normally releases a hot fix on Friday so you're only impacted for 2 days. For me, having the latest and greatest is worth it.
  10. Actually it's 1 March! :)
  11. Welcome. Just take it easy and do whatever interests you. When you start getting into dog fighting, I'd recommend TacView as a learning aid.
  12. Thanks for the update!
  13. A video would be very helpful. I must admit to struggling with the air / ground communications as well. Having said that the missions are excellent and I hope to complete them all eventually (need to learn to A2A refuel first). Thank you for the good work.
  14. Definitely worth it and I personally think it is a bargain. Start up and shut down is fun in the Hornet then add in carrier ops. Hours of learning and enjoyment. The Hornet is in a pretty good place at the moment in terms of development and a lot more features are in the pipeline.
  15. Downloaded and installed it on the weekend. There is a link to the required windows / server app via the Google Play Store page. Working out of the box for me without any problems on my android phone. The proportions of the UFC were out of whack for me but otherwise no problems and it worked as advertised. If you don't mind the google ads at the bottom, then this is a very good UFC solution. I'm in the market now for a cheap, no name 8" android tablet.
  16. This is great. Thanks for sharing.
  17. A couple of things that have worked for me with Case 1: * Extend the break to about two nautical miles ahead of the boat. This gives you a longer downwind leg to get setup. * Don't extend gear and full flaps until about 180 knots. There is less oscillation when you do this compared to 250 knots * As mentioned above using the ILS can be helpful with the lineup. Also, keep the velocity vector just above the horizontal line * After you are on speed, you can't set and forget. You need to keep moving that throttle. To that end I keep an eye on the rate of change of airspeed. The faster it moves, the bigger throttle movements you need to make. I don't worry about finding an ideal airspeed. * My scan is: AoA, lineup, airspeed, meatball * I try to fly the meatball and avoid putting the velocity vector in the "elbow". It's hard to see it at first so initially I just try to keep the wires at around -3 degrees on the HUD and focus on the lineup. * Finally, just like real life, you need to practice regularly. I try to do a landing every few days. If I leave it a week or more, my first couple of landings are not pretty. * Don't forget Bankler's landing mission, which is also helpful in getting you setup right in the pattern. Hope this helps.
  18. I believe that is the case. Not 100% sure but I think the Aussie and Canadian Hornets have this ability. Before you ask DCS has stated many times that they will not be adding ILS capability to the Hornet.
  19. Again, another guess on my part, but perhaps it was the dual engines. Single engine failure means you can bring it home versus the F-16 which is now written off. Other things come into it as well such as total cost over the expected life, technology transfers, some of the construction / assembly to take place in Switzerland etc. My memory is shaky but I believe this is why Australia chose the F-18 over the F-16, despite the F-16 having a lower sticker price per jet. Regardless of what they choose, I'm pretty confident the Swiss will drive a pretty hard bargain.
  20. I'm going to take a guess on this one but given the costs of operating a Hornet versus a F-5, it's probably more cost effective to use the F-5 for CAS. Also less risk given the purchase cost of a Hornet versus the F-5.
  21. Is there a preference / reason for the ATFLIR to be mounted on the left fuselage rather than the right fuselage? e.g. wiring, etc. Thanks.
  22. I agree with the sentiment. I just check in with ATC for procedural reasons rather than functional reasons. TACAN with course line will set you up nicely.
  23. That's excellent. Is such a setup downloadable (i.e. mission template) or can you provide instructions on how to recreate it. Thanks!
  24. I would love ED to work on a Super Hornet circa 2005, i.e. the same time frame as the current legacy Hornet. From an ED perspective they've done most of the work. It would just be updating the flight model, some of the avionics etc. From a sim perspective it would be nice to have slightly longer legs, more payload and best of all, buddy refueling. Of course I'm making it sound easier than it is, but given that the Super Hornet will be in the USN fleet for a long time to come, it would sell well.
