A+ is the B. I will probably make this once the template comes out. :D

And what source is that from? CNN or other news? News get a lot of aircraft facts wrong half the time. I wouldn't want to believe it from the source that says the runway is your tarmac.

 This is the true common sense that we need. Accuracy is accuracy, not a "if I likes it, I buys it."

Read the sentence that came after it. ;)

This is the only footage I am aware of (sent to me) on this subject. It is still a high pitch before returning to the growl you identify as a "lock tone." At that rate of continuation, there is still questioning of HB and how they recorded the sound raw or with dampening. Skip to 5:51

So the "we" is the collective group of people in the community who likely have never flown the real F-14 a day in their life, is what I am interpreting it as. And complaining about how the 'real sound' you accuse of is like an attempt to destroy a pilot is like saying firearms manufacturers should've made their guns quieter for infantry to use. The pilot has the helmet, and the grunt has earplugs. Not even during flight should you have not put on your helmet in the first place helping at least dampen the pitch to something fainter/softer of a noise. So yes, a lower pitch would get rid of the complaining and get you what you hear. But no, compared to the "lock tones" you have heard of, there is no 100% certainty from those who are not retired pilots of the airframe nor' an SME. My argument on this stands otherwise until there is a legitimate problem and acknowledged by the developers themselves against the realism of the lock tone.

Then we seem to be at an impasse, except, we're not dealing with trading our partners trapped in a bubble. :D This community strives so much for the realism and authenticity of modules, but once something does not please them in a way, shape, or form, it's suddenly needing a "tweak of their own" so to speak so that it fits within their expectations. It happened with the MiG-21bis where people complained about the FM so much being unrealistic because they didn't know how the real pilots themselves took off. But, this is HB so I will leave that out of the discussion. :megalol: It only seems that we as a community must find something to complain about to go along with our day. This is not targeted directly at you, but just this seemingly general movement. As to your FM complaint, I am sure that is an issue and hoping HB will look into it. But to me, I trust the SME's of this module and developers more than the authenticity pertaining as to others such as ED developing their own modules. So, no sweat. Your post encourages more thinking than mere ranting. So many [modules] fall victim to this, as more "act-worthy" non-verified SME's try to take over and dictate what is and is not accurate of the module(s).

[WIP] Brightness thumbwheels range and orientation

So a texture issue? -
If it's the real sound, then it's the real sound. No more, no less. You already have the ability to turn it down via the options in your settings. However, it doesn't need to lose authenticity just because you don't like the sound of the pitch it gives. I agree that it is screeching, but I do also agree with enabling the helmet sound option in this situation. That, or changing volume settings. ;) I believe the SMEs and HB more with their studio sounds of the F-14B and affirmation over "I expect it to be this way."

Agh! I knew I'd forget one! :D I'll add that to the list. We currently have someone already doing these, sorry. But I will make sure to have this added to the list as well. :)

Cool to see someone making the better F-5 here. A shame they never introduced her into service. :( Best of luck on your project!

Hello, everyone. Due to HB now using the Intel DDS setup and not NVidia, this has left many people unable to open their .DDS files. However, I have found a solution for one of the following software: paint.NET This plugin is called DDS FileType Plus, which allows for people to open .DDS formats introduced from DirectX 10 and higher series. The installation process is simple, and is step by step: Download from this link here. Extract the folder (.ZIP) Find your directory path of Paint.NET which you installed it under. By default, this will be in C:\Program Files\paint.NET Find the folder named "FileTypes" Drag and drop the .DLL files from the extracted .ZIP in there. This may need administrator action. Once you are done with the installation process, you will need to re-name the suffix filetype (in this case, it is .DDS) of the file you wish to open to .DDS2. Once that is done, you are able to successfully open it. Here is an example of the before and after via. screenshots: BEFORE AFTER Do note that you will need to re-save under .DDS and not .DDS2 in order to get it to work in DCS. I hope this helps any of you livery makers on your way to making some cool F-14 skins! - Sirius

[NO BUG] Major problems in 'Training' missions
fl0w replied to BattleAxes Skinner's topic in Bugs and Problems
I know right! It's almost as if there are other 3rd parties that do this as well, and seemingly have these bugs that they never could've found! I wonder why... -
Here is what I do, and works. - LANTIRN knob to PAO, wait 5 minutes. - Unstow the laser, change to FLIR mode. Wait ~45 seconds. - Toggle the LANTIRN mode to A/G. Do not forget this. - Arm the laser. - Aim the LANTIRN at the ground via. slewing controls - Use point track. Now it will stabilize to the ground. - Find a target, and then flip through the area and again point track modes. - Full action on LANTIRN and you will get a cue. From there you can either change the lasing to automatic (noted by an A letter next to the lasing code, default as 1 6 8 8 ) or keep it how it is. This step by step procedure seems to work for me without fail. It does appear that there is a certain distance, however. The two most important steps have to be the laser arming and A/G mode.

Because most, if not all of the other modules do.

The speculation begins! I don't know about you guys, but that A-6E model looks a bit too far advanced to be considered "AI." ;)
-
This may or may not be a bug (really hoping it isn't because this was cool as heck!) :D
-
I wouldn't necessarily consider it a mod for this, but it does enhance the sim. Check out Reshade. :) http://reshade.me

I can't understand the buffer issues, but the bottom ones appear to be code based for the damage model and textures alongside.
-
Really cool mod. Not sure why this was deleted in the first place. Many threads including a stickied post too was deleted with no reason.
-
Maybe my post was a bit too harsh. After all, you did not quote or specify so the complaint seemed rather general and broad. But assuming someone's specs with heat on 8Gb and HDD is just as bad as complaining about performance and demanding a refund.
-
My computer isn't old, just got it for Christmas. Did I break the magical spell? Maybe you're not sure of this, but there are flight sim players of all varieties with different specs. The fact that this is a prevailing issue here on the forums with 3 threads dedicated to this with people making them long is enough to not say "Go back to FSX." That's exactly how you destroy PR. But I am of course not some critiquing expert. Just realize that there are many players here, even some with 12GB+ and going SSD that have these issues. Don't reply to this, just think about it.

[DCS BUG] RIO in MP warps all over the place in a land-based landing
fl0w replied to -Painter-'s topic in Bugs and Problems
I believe this is the issue you guys are also experiencing. If so, then yes, it is very annoying. I think it is an ED issue, however, instead of HB with their netcode.
