  1. I don't think I'd want a deluge of players who downloaded World and CA for free jumping on servers for the sole purpose of griefing.
  2. Ok. Ditched VNC Viewer and have TightVNC working remotely and bringing up the GUI, so I can at least log into the master server and start the game. Direction on common configuration how-to's would still be lovely. ;)
  3. Hi guys, Wanting to run up a World server for some squad mates from time to time on a PC that's sitting in the corner with no monitor or keyboard attached and have been relentlessly searching for a How-To but only able to find bits and pieces. PC has a GTX295, have installed World and P-51 (that's not being used) but unable to manage since I don't seem to get anything but a black screen as output if I go in via VNC. Seen posts about the 3drender = false, etc - but have to be able to get the thing to log into the master server before I can do anything, anyway. Also seen Servman but does it help in the initial deployment of a server? Pointers to any info welcome.
  4. You can't judge the content by the size of the download. CA wasn't adding any additional graphics to the engine, it's all in there already. It's adding a whole new exciting aspect to the sim that's enjoyable with a bunch of squadmates - well, until DCS crashed.. $30 for what it opens up is rather cheap, IMO.
  5. With Aero, I have a gadget on my task bar that toggles it on or off. I don't recall it ever happening with DCS but with BF3, Windows will often interrupt to tell me that turning Aero off will improve performance (and it always seems to do it when I'm about to line someone up and they're looking right at me) and once I respond, I'm dead. I just instinctively turn it off now. I checked the Aero option and I seem to be getting the issue others are seeing in that I often have to ALT-TAB so that I can click my cockpit. Haven't had a chance to see the behaviour if I turn off the Aero option in DCS.
  6. Looks as if you take control of a vehicle then the AI takes over your plane. I did this a couple of times for a few KA-50's and they ended up pretty much autonomously going out and taking out some tanks. Also appears that the AI will react to your threats and counter attack. I pushed a few tanks forward and artied their position, spotted some tanks coming in to reinforce the position. This is freakin' awesome.
  7. Finally got the torrent down and my new World and modules installed. Very happy, very excited by the future. With regards to CA, are we acting against an AI commander who is also assessing the battlefield and strategically moving their units or is it up to mission designers to set AI waypoints to simulate a push or defence?
  8. Only just got mine down. Trying to figure it out. First effort jumped into some arty while my A-10 was auto-starting and found I couldn't get back in the plane.. had to spawn another. Some reading of the manual needed, methinks..
  9. I found a simple way to do it. When you go to load a single mission, if you click the drop down box where it says my missions, I have CA, A-10C, KA-50 and SU-25T as well as all my drives. Clicking any one of those takes you to the root of that modules missions.
  10. Upload once to Usenet and it'll be propagated across servers. I can then download via my client and it would have taken me ~40 minutes to download the lot. As it is with Torrents, been going for ~14 hours and I'm 43% done. Doesn't require people seeding and most Usenet providers have very fat pipes.
  11. Has ED considered Usenet as a distribution medium?
  12. 1.2.0 DCS World is now full release.
  13. You have to make it the SPI as well. TMS fwd long.
  14. Down speed 0.3kb/s Up speed 76.3kb/sec ETA 4w 1d. :(
  15. Wrapping my head around the Mav too. I also like to have a close look with the TGP, set it as SPI then slave the MAV to the SPI but doing it that way it's not ground stabilised if I have to slew it a little to lock. Can you do a TMS Aft short then TMS forward short? Will it be ground stabilised after launch?
  16. Just on system requirements.. I have a reasonably well specced machine. i7@4.2GHz, 2x570's and 16GB RAM. If I create a fast mission with all unit options maxxed (which I would probably do under CA) I just about halve my FPS when I'm sitting in the cockpit of my A-10. Is the drop in FPS due to having to render so many units, the CPU having to deal with the AI action of those units or both? If I were to create a server on another machine and connect as a client, would that offload some of the CPU utilisation and potentially increase my framerate? Also has the potential of creating a mini-war which I would presume you could drop in at will if you are able to spawn aircraft. Only have a BS2 upgrade so I'd try it myself but don't have a key to register, sadly.
  17. So there is a new grass being rolled out with CA? Nice.
  18. The problem with ARMAII grass and touches on the above is that you could be standing in what looks like a wheat field with absolutely no visibility and someone with their settings set to low or at a distance where the LOD is zero will see you simply standing there with no vegetation cover, right out it the open.
  19. This looks like a massive step in the right direction. Out of interest - if someone decided to model some realistic ground vehicles to a similar fidelity of the current air assets, could they be plugged into DCS:World?
  20. Who knew you could drift that Mustang as well. ;)
  21. I got the same message, uninstalled patch 1.02 and low and behold..
  22. I guess it's all about perspective. Black Ops cost me $89.99 and is basically MW2 with dedicated servers, new maps and a few new gadgets. In comparison, DCS is as close as you're going to get A-10C simulator on PC. I know which one is much better value for my money.
  23. The look and feel is similar in that you could probably tell DCS is an evolution of Lockon.. but the improvements made to both the visuals and fidelity between the two products is like night and day. Thanks to DCS, I can't play Lockon anymore.. :(
  24. Works great on my 46" Samsung. Once you see it, you'll never go back.
