It is easy to drift down that path but then ED give many example to use its not just the SC, it is easy to do that based on past experiences. But back on topic, is there anything new to report that the CH47 is going to get as we get closer to the end of June, my finger is hovering above buy depending on news between now and then, and im fully aware of what EA means Thanks

DCS: Kola map by Orbx in Early Access available now!
Hotdognz replied to Graphics's topic in Official Newsletters
Well im 60 and don't feel entitled, been with ED since SU27 Flanker, don't visit Reddit or Hoggit and still believe that for $55 it wasn't worth it at all and has been the worst map EA release I care to think about, and I cant believe ED even let it out in the state. All my complaints are around the airports, the rest I can understand its a big map, but even the high detail airports, they look like these areas were put together by an armature Pics speak a 1000 words, this is a major Russian AFB in the high detail areas. -
When you take a closer look at the high detail AFB's in the Russian area they looks like they were put together by an armature let alone a well know company like ORBX, for a $55 EA map I at least expected much more from this and once again I cant believe even ED let this out in this state, I would really like to know ED's thoughts on the state of this map around all the major airbases and why they look so badly put together, Sinia and even SA the airbases were in a much better state when first released, at least there was some cohesion on how a airbase should look, even in EA we should expect better then this. Take a look at the pics of a major Russian base in the high detail area. Buildings with gates that have no roads through them Big buildings plonked on gras with no access to them via paths or roads. Gas bowsers and fuel cells placed in stupid places with no access and with grass growing though them Garage parking (could be fire service) with incomplete concrete areas Mixed up concrete textures on taxi ways The list goes on, also the fact that most of the good stuff up by Murmansk cant even be destroyed, tyry dropping bombs on the dry water docks....its like what's the point, it supposed to be a combat simulator. If I could get a refund I sure would.

The more I fly it the more I ask my self did ORBX really make this (I have plenty of other ORBX software) the high detail airports are bland compared to anything in Syria and Sinai, the airport building model texture are unaspiring and have no worn look about them in such a harsh environment, also it looks like loads of taxiways and roads have not been completed with airport buildings out on grass with no foot path or road too them or parking, objects at airports seem to be randomly placed, tarmac and taxiway textures have no life to them, airports just don't look real compared to what we have in Caucuses, a lot of airports don't even have a road that goes to them at all. I really cant believe ORBX did this based on other work they have done, too me it feels like they gave it to an intern as a first project, we have all seen what can be done with Syria and Sinia airports', the map needs to lift its game a lot even in the high detail areas. Flying around it, Im fine with that part except for the really odd color pallet used in places its really a very bright pucking green in places, up high over Norway it looks pretty good, I still stand by my point this is too much $$$ even for EA and I really cant believe ED let this out in this state.

Thanks for the update being able to bind all the switches now has made this VR heaven, its been a massive hit on our TTi test server, so much were moving it to one of our official mods we use. The only question I have left has anyone got the AI door gunner to work in a MP server, we can not get them to work at all, I have watched a few videos and they seem to work offline fine. -
Well got it downloaded today and took a flight around Murmansk, got to say its way too green the ground textures textures in a helo are truly horrible, why didn't they use the same textures from the Falklands around this area it would have suited it so much more and been a lot easier on the eye, also the textures are all over the place they are not even consistent. Also have to say if that's a high detailed airport at Murmansk, its a pretty poor effort from Orbx, they need to really look at Sinia and Syria and how well they are modeled even the building textures are bland and unaspiring, most of the buildings in the airport don't have roads or footpaths going to them ??, there are left over concrete areas that seem to have been placed and then have no purpose, it feels like a half hearted effort really. I was so looking forward to this map, I know its EA but even the high detailed areas shouldn't have got through like this, SA is way nicer with the texture palate, I cant believe this even got passed through with ED as a EA beta, feels very much like a alpha.

I added it to out Discord groups TT1, we had a blast 10 up in the air most of the time, throwing's the smoke bombs out is a hoot. With a few teaks to the keybinds for this bird it will be fantastic in VR, it needs the following. Y & H for the gin sight up and down elevation in front of your face Insert and Page up/Page down or at least make the Throttle axis work, its bindable but does nothing in the OH6 F view keys Of course plenty of other keys could be made bindable but they are easy to get with the mouse. Good luck and great work -
My understand from the EA post by NL and BN are you wont be able to do any of that on release and it will requite the logistic code written in to DCS sore that will come within the EA release period, this could be up to 2 years away and may be well out to 5 years based on the SC module releases we have seen. You will or should be able to do some of this things with 3rd party scripts like CTLD added to missions, but everything you load is invisible but does add weight. Others can correct me if im wrong.

Thanks this is a very nicely detailed mod, wow its twitchy, but fun when up. So far cant seem to change weapon load outs on a hot start, can they only be changed when cold ?? (Found it cold only) Quite a few key binds cant be bound to any joysticks or button boxes, Y & H, any F view keys so far. Other keys not mappable and makes starting VR harder Page up & Page Down (Throttle) Also a very strange one Throttle axis doesnt do anything even though you can map it Insert (Throttle Idle) -
Is this Diet-Kola Im actually really looking forward to this map and hope it drops this week.
-
There seems little to no fanfare about a map like this dropping on the 3rd May, is it really, I mean why is the DCS hype train not running, its hard to find any info at all about the release of this map.

Looking forward to Kola, nice EA suprise with no confusion about what we're getting. Sent from my CPH2333 using Tapatalk -
+1 for @cow_art comments, these are very much what I would like to see prior to the EA release. I would also like to see what the novel logistics system that you are planning that are going to be available for us later on in EA and for the future of DCS core, I'm pretty sure the roadmap for this will have been discussed within ED and should really be available for all to see here as this also affects the Hind, Huey and Mi8. Thanks you

Thanks for re opening this important discussion, I feel doing this small step was a step in the right direction for a open conversation with ED staff. Thank you very much

The Supercarrier was an important module for DCS and yet we are here 4 years in with no deliverables at all except night wands and spooky crew at Halloween, and plenty of empty promise's that are now being put back even more as its said at needs Vulcan. As much as I want to fly the Hook after reading the FAQ, I feel this will be another SC with a long wait for the items in that FAQ, so far ED seems to have a lot on its plate with promises made in this years news letters, Air ground munitions, Dynamic campaign weather system updates, ECM, ATC, in game radio, ground AI updates, and much more, plus we have older modules still in EA with no updates. (not in the news letters) If the logistics is high priority is it higher than adding the missing promised features to the SC, where does it sit in the que ??

This is exactly how I play on our DCSNZA servers, our group have been running the excellent Pretense and Foothold missions with CTLD for well on 3 years now. but just looking at the game as a whole, it's a pretty amazing achievement. I think it runs great and looks good. But it's lacking engaging features, this is where ED needs to step up and add loads of much needed core features to the game so the mission designers and scripters can make the game part of the simulation must more fun and easy to achieve. I am so grateful the community has made workarounds for a lot of the pitfalls of DCS.
-
Spot on and a great post, this should read as a feature list to what the Hook can do when released, although this is core game play it would help us buy it, this would be perfect also for UH1H and Mi8 with limited ability for the Mi24
-
I know what it is, they stated that, my comments are what's its going to add to DCS with a feature list that they didn't add yet. My understanding is all it will be able to do is sling loading and at least that should be available at release (but who knows), as ED have no logistic support in DCS, we only have 3rd party's supply scripts that allow this to be done (CTLD), well currently know a lot of scripters who are giving up on the scripting side and leaving as ED supply's no support to them for that part of DCS, without the scripting guys DCS missions would be a hollow world. The other transport helos in DCS also have multiple weapon loads out that can attached to them in the form or rockets and bombs and forward firing guns the Hook wont have this at all. I like the Hook enough to fly it but ill stand by not buying it with the very limited information given, I have 3 other helos that can do logistics already.
-
Quick question as I'm unsure, does anyone know if any of the DCS helos can do logistics in the mission editor using just EDs work, does ED have that function in the core game now. ? Does the mission need to use 3rd party scripts to get helos to do logistics ??. If it needs 3rd party scripting to get logistics in any mission SP/MP, if ED does not include a new logistics model in the feature list for the Chinook pre order then all they are really selling is a flying module with nothing it can do really. Im really looking forward to seeing whats going to be included in EA
-
Im not denying that NL you guys are busy I know, but the discussion you had that I saw on r/Hoggit was way more in depth on the AI ground snipper topic than I have seen in here in a long time, its just an observation its not a dig, I would have thought this would be the primary place to discuss DCS topics and get help or info on items in DCS from official ED people.
-
It really is the first EA I have not purchased in 10 years with the limited info given today in the news about it, I already have the F4E and full Afghan map on pre order and was realy hanging out for this helo, I was excited to see the news until I saw this. Highly detailed external and internal modelling, including cockpit and cargo hold Unmatched helicopter flight dynamics that only DCS can provide Fully interactive, VR-ready cockpit I mean that's a bare min for any module even not released and just for internal testing 10 weeks out from the said proposed release date in the trailer and either they don't know what features it will have in the DCS world or are really not willing to tell us ??. Realistically its a logistics chopper so we know what to somewhat expect in DCS but this needs to expand that role in the DCS world of logistics with the likes of it being a mobile Farp (Fat Cow) seeing logistics in side the chopper which was shown in a screen shot and some more, this means base code needs to be added to the logistics core part of the game to support that. I'm really at a loss as to why this information cant be told to us, they will know what's its intended use is and should have a least a baseline list of features for this module that were in place when it was decided to develop it, or what was the point of adding it to the DCS world, to just fly about ??

Until that's listed I'm not buying it in EA, honestly this should be front and centre now, how can you expect people to buy it not knowing what they're going to get. Sent from my CPH2333 using Tapatalk
