  1. This is a common misconception that keeps getting perpetuated. In reality the Hind is not that much larger when you compare it to other attack helicopters espessially the Ka-50 and Mi-28. It's power to weight is greater then the Sea Cobra and comparible to the Super Cobra. The wings mostly effect it's ability to manuver at high back angles at high speed. While they do have some effect with the downwash in a hover, when you compare them with helicopters like the Ka-50 the wings are not overly large in comparison. As you can see in this video the Mi-24P Hind has no trouble with low speed manuvering and hovering. You might say that the weight on the hind in this scenario is pretty light and the conditions are in a ideal regime, (This video was taken mid summer in Hungary) but these are always factors for any helicopter. While not widely advertised the AH-64D was a little underpowered compared to A versions, due to all the additional systems. Part of the reason they removed the radar in Afgahnistan was that it removed a decent amount of weight, but even with this, combat loaded AH-64 would have to at times make rolling or hopping takeoffs in Afgahistan when the conditions were high and hot, which is also why they often didn't carry full combat loads. However even with these factors by the time the AH-64 arrived on station it would have burned up enough fuel to manuver and hover if required. The same is true for the hind. Plan for the mission and gear it up so that it's at a good combat weight when it arrives on target (the hind carries a ton of fuel, but doesn't have to carry a full load) and it's more then capable of hovering if required and employing it's weapons at stand-off ranges
  2. Well if you read up on the cobra you'll realize that it couldn't hover at combat loads in various conditions and was generally underpowered, much more so then the Hind. So it had to do run in attacks and pop-up before aquiring targets and firing it's TOW missles. To be fair almost all attack helicopter engage targets while being on the move, as being stationary in a helicopter is when your the most vunerable. As for the cargo compartment it adds a degree of versitility, and has found use in various circumstances. Most people look how it was utilized in the soviet war in Afgahnistan into what worked or didn't work for the hind, but really that's doing a disservice to the aircraft as it's been used in many different conflicts and has been succesful enough that Mil continues to build them in the Mi-35m and Mi-35phoenix varients.
  3. The TWR of the F1 is better then the F-5 less then the 21Bis. It's .66 compared to the F-5 0.58
  4. Considering the F-5 does. It's highly likely that the Mirage F1-CE will have a similar mode to the F-5. The F1-EE and F1-EM will likely have something closer to the Mirage-2000
  5. .....you could just have a few missions where it's a red force plane.....sure most of the time it could be blue but you could take the MiG 29 away and give us 4 mirage slots . Honestly I don't think the R530s will be a huge dramatic games changer. With the CE version of the F1 they will almost certainly not be able to track targets below them in ground clutter and while it's range is decent compared to the R3R, it's manuverabilty against targets defending against it likely won't be great. Plus it's a heavy missile over twice the weight of a AIM 9. I'll likeky be firing both one a secomd or 2 after the other and then go with AIM 9s like you yourself was planing.

  11. Well I mean the F-14 is only on some of the time so if the F-14 is availible but the server is empty it's likely people won't fly it. Now I for one don't want to change the number of missions the F-14 is in. I think it's perfectly fine how it is at the moment. However it looks like that in Europe people are playing in the evenings there, but in the Americas they are not playing in the evenings. Obviousky this I feel is because the majority of the players on the server are European. I'm just wondering if we want to promote the server a bit. I'm thinking about doing some stuff on some on the Facebook groups to get some people online during those times.
  12. So i'm wondering how we can get more people playing in the evenings in the Americas. I'm saying this for selfish reasons because I work when the server is busy, and can't get on till 20:00MST which is 02:00GMT. Now the easist solution is have more US cold war jets, so hopefully when the A7 and F8 come out there will be a bit of an influx. The F-4 would probably get a ton of people if it ever gets developed. I was wondering if anyone eles had any Ideas on how we can get the server a bit more full during those times?
  13. Don't get me wrong though, it is a game changer combined with the MiG's ability to IFF. I used the radar a decent amount before, now i use it all the time. R3Rs while still situational are more then just a gimmick now. Senior F-5 players will still be able to reliably defeat them, but they give you a head on option if R-60ms are off the table.
  14. We keep hearing mixed things on the MiG-29 depending on the source. In October we heard it was just in planning. In December and Jan we heard that it was getting developed a bit sooner (since Black shark 3 wasn't happening) but nothing since then, and recently Nineline said that it's still just in planning....
  15. Also not to be confused with the MI-24P-1M. From the looks of it the Mi-24s (including the vanila Mi-24p we are getting) were doing well enough in Syria that Russia is considering modifying of it's existing fleet of Mi-24s and cutting back on purchasing new Mi-28, Ka-52, and Mi-35Ms. I wonder if the Mi-35Ps have the better engines like the Mi-35Ms Personally i like the look of the mi-35P more then the Mi-35Ms since it retains the big wing and retractable gear

Well it's still can't look down really unless you are up high and they are only slightly below you and there is still nothing but sky behind them for a long long long distance but this was also the case before. Also like before,the tweaks to the radar have no effects on the aspect of target. It's a pulse radar so there is no notch filter, so targets as long they are above you or co-alt will not disappear regardless if they are cold, hot or flanking as there is no pulse-doppler notch filter for them to hide in. Works similar to the F-14 radar in pulse mode. Unlike before It can now see targets that are at co-alt and slightly above you when you are near the deck, as long as there is no terrain behind them, before if you were near the deck and your target was under 500m it was not able to pick them up. Which is an advatage it didn't have, and now puts it more into what the F-5s radar can also detect targets.
  17. Yeah the thrust to weight is much better in the F-16 esspessially at Mil power. The F-16 has probably the best fuel burn ratio in game for 4rth gen fighters. Better then the F/A-18 the F-15 and the Tomcat. I know the Mirage 2000 is close to it though
  18. Even with the glitch the F-16 is limited to pretty much just mach 2 at alt. The MiG 29 flies higher and faster at alt to mach 2.25 The F-16 doesn't like altiudes above 40000ft. It needs burner to do it. It's wings are just too small, and as mentioned the F-16 block 50 is a air pusher. It does fantastic for acceleration at low alt but the block 52s do better at higher alt (less bypass ratio). The F-16 has slightly better acceleration then the MiG 29A at low Alt.
  19. The Mirage F-1 Is good for a turbo jet. But it's not a turbo fan, so it's fuel ecconmy is always going to be poorer then the F-16 which is more of a air pusher turbofan design (for a fighter at least)engine anyway. The F-1 thrust to weight is nothing to write home about. Better then the F-5 but worse then the MiG-21bis. It should retain energy in turns way better then the MiG 21 though
  20. Mig 29A i believe is faster then F-16 on the deck, and definetly up high. Cockpit bubble of the F-16 creates bad occilation (happens in game) limiting it's top speed.
  21. I mean the R3R is actually not bad, and I have gotten a number of kills with it. I guess the Radar on the F1 will determime a lot of it's performance. As I recall the F1-CE has very limited look down, and the F1-EE is better but not as good as a pulse dopplar radar. I expect the R530 will work as a long range R3R with about as good G tolarance, and possible depending on the F1 varient able to potentially hit tatgets below it
  22. Thats what I heard. I wonder where they put them. Good to hear though lack of Inbuilt chaff and flare on the Viggen is one of it's down sides for air to air combat. Sorry I said under the wing. I meant under the fuselage on the F1-CE
  23. Well 1: I play red force because often there are more blues (not so much these days) and 2: because I like the MiG 21, but I also like the F1, and it's.....sorta a red plane too.... Anyway that a pic of the F1-EE. With dual R530. The F1-CE should i believe have a single R530 under the main fuselage, and I believe the EE should also get the Super 530 F as well as the R530You can tell it's the EE because of the refueling probe. I think that we should get both the CE and the EE in the cold war server. Though it's good to know we are getting the EE with at least a semi active R530. Still don't see the flare and chaff dispenser pods though close to the wing root, but maybe the spanish used a different system for counter measures. Awesome pic though. Where did you find it?
  24. I mean a laser scan of the cockpit, is pretty bare bones stuff, espesially when you compare it to 3 other projects that have updated with more info in the last month. That scan didn't even make the facebook page.
  25. Just the single R530 slung on the underside center pylon right? I'm hoping but don't know for sure if the Spanish had the option on theirs.
