[MOD] Joystick Axis for the Gunners
BaD CrC replied to Holton181's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Thanks Holton. I have to try this one. Are you working on the Gazelle minigun too? -
That's already available with Ciribob's CSAR script. All our missions and multi squad missions are running this script. Other servers are running it too. But you need to have some notions to work with the mission editor and how to add scripts.
-
That would be useful in MP only. Have SimpleRadio or UniversRadio intalled, and your radios will switch to 121.5 or 243 automatically after ejection. This way you can call for CSAR and direct the choppers in MP.
-
The CSAR script is currently being modified to allow this. But it also takes a mod to add a floating life raft. The problem with ejected pilot in DCS today is that, even once on the ground, it is not something you can pickup. Worse, if the pilot walks away from his touchdown point, it is not shown in MP to the other players. There is so many things that ED could do with ejected pilots to enable CSAR missions, but I don't think it is on top of their priorities right now.

Not sure you'll see a massive improvement going from 1080Ti to 2080Ti, at least the perf to cost ratio shouldn't be impressive. I am looking myself for a 2080Ti but I am starting with 2x780Ti so I expect to see a huge difference. Then you'll be running 3 cards with extremely high wattage requirement. Having 2 1080Ti and a 2080Ti runing at the same time will require a massive power supply. I believe each card requires something around 200 to 250W to run. Maybe more for the 2080Ti. GCs alone will then take 800W! You'll blow up your power supply if it is less than 1 Kw.

I kinda want to marry Alice. :)

Welcome to the forum! No, this will almost certainly never happen! But the Mi24 might be on the way!

DCS 2.5 on an ultrawide 3840 x 1080 monitor?
BaD CrC replied to wernst's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=219295. Running fine with 780Ti. -
1) Yes, it doesn't matter of your GC are identical or not. My previous configuration was running 6 displays with 2 different Radeon GC. 2) In a SLI configuration, you are loosing the 4 outputs of your second 1080. So you are ending up with only 4 video outputs which is not what you want to do I believe. SLI is not supported by DCS and will get you no additional FPS. In addition, SLI needs to work in full screen mode if I remember.

Public servers are not necessarily offering choppers positions because it is a bit complex to mix fixed wings and rotary wings operations. At least, if you want to coordinate both. And helicopters are not as popular as flying a fast jet. You are better off looking for a helicopter squad in your area.
-
Huey is flown a lot in MP because it is the most iconic. The flight model is excellent and/but it is very easy to fly, have limited firepower, no navigation systems and generally no complex systems. Hence it is perfect for beginners. Then you have, with the same ratio, the Ka50 and Mi8. They are operating really well together because they are sharing the same flight envelop (speed wise) unlike the Huey or Gazelle. The Ka50 is pretty easy to fly with all the stabilization systems it uses, but very complex to master system wise, at least if you want to use it to its full potential. The Mi8 is a bit more simple systems wise (but still complex) and a bit trickier to fly. It is a big flying bus but a joy to fly though. The Gazelle is the latest chopper addition to DCS world. It is the most challenging one to fly. She is a bit like a F1 race car. Since it is less iconic and more challenging to fly, she is not the most popular on MP. With only 4 missiles, there is a need for a flight of 2 to 4 of them to be really effective. But at night, she is deadly and very hard to spot. And she is the only one with thermal targeting sensor and RWR which is priceless.

You'd rather try on Polychop Simulations Discord server where dev are more actively answering and the environment is a bit less hostile than on ED forum.
-
Hi Frenchie. You can PM gillesdrone on this forum. He built a Gazelle cockpit entirely with real Gazelle parts, including collective, panel, NADIR... The only catch is you have to speak a little bit of French so I hope you deserve your nickname!

We had an NVG training last night which lasted a bit. Took off at 2200 local from Kutaisi. Around 2300, we witnessed a beautiful moonrise behind the mountain range with a nice full moon and illumination slowly increasing. I think this is the first time we were seeing that in DCS and we were all pretty much blown away. Not as spectacular as the new sunsets, but still gorgeous. I checked the IRL moonrise time and lunar phase in Kutaisi for the date of the mission (June 30th 2018) and it perfectly matched what we saw in game (I am not sure if illumination was exact but well, after pitch black flight, the scenery with full moon became much brighter). Really impressed. This definitively adds an interesting dimension in NVG ops for helicopters.

Sounds cool. Might be in France mid October.
-
No worry. I can help you with that. Let me know.
-
Just drag and drop your white noise sound file below the current track you are working on in Audacity. Make sure both tracks have the same duration and that the white noise is not too loud. Select export and your final sound file will have the two tracks blended.
-
That's cool man. I think the delta between PG and IRL will not be a huge immersion killer as it is much smaller than with Caucasus. And as you said, PG is not finished yet so there are opportunities to have some convergence at the end of the day, and use IRL doc without noticing any discrepancies.
-
Yeah, I guess this is even simplier. Thanks kunterbunt.
-
Applying high pass filter with default Audacity values then Amplification 11db with "allow saturation" box checked, then another round of high pass filter. Finally blending it with a white noise track. Et voila.
-
Salut Simicro. Don't know if this helps that late in the process but this might give you some more insight of the UH-1H startup procedure.

Sorry Snoopy. I didn't want to offend you. I appreciate you are sharing your hard work with the community. It is quite remarkable. Let me just explain my point in a less offensive way. :) I understand the quest for realism, but there is, in DCS maps, some amount of discrepancy with IRL that you can't avoid. It is quite strong for Caucasus, not as much for PG though. But still, it exists. So say I am using IRL docs to find my way on an airport or direct my flight to the active runway. I am looking at my taxiway chart and I can see that I have to go through Hotel then Charlie and hold short Alpha. Next move for me and the others will be to follow the signs in game. Problem, ED got the Taxiway names wrong like what mwd2 highlighted, and they have no intention to correct this. This kinda kills the immersion, don't you think? Same for QFU. In Caucasus, they are completely wrong wrt IRL. So yes, IRL QFU for a given runway might be 07, but what's painted on the DCS runway is actually 06. Isn't it better to ask for a 06 clearance then? I assume PG QFUs are pretty accurate (didn't check actually) but if, in the coming years, they have to change numbers due to magnetic declination changes, I am pretty sure that ED will not bother at all about that. Will you change your doc to reflect IRL despite that?

I ran up to 6 monitors with DCS on two video cards. Currently running 5 (still on 2 GC). I have never seen a 8 monitors configuration, but since all recent graphic cards have now 4 outputs, I am pretty sure you can connect 8 monitors with no issue with 2 of them. Of course, forget about SLI or full screen mode. Now, the real question is what is the resolution you want to run DCS? I am running 5760x1080 for DCS which is basically the equivalent of 3 HD monitors. The display area left is used for displaying gauges, panels and misc apps used in DCS like SRS, Helios,TIR,DCSFP,... Now if you are looking to have DCS displaying on all 8 monitors, which can be a definition of 15360x1080, or 7680x2160 depending on the configuration of your monitors, then, you might run into serious fps issues. No matter how super powerful your graphic cards are.

Thanks feefifofum. I guess the lunar phases should match the %illumination. I'll run a few tests. Our next NVG mission takes place this month 2018 (the 7th). So according to this, a 8.9% illumination should leave us with a pretty dark night. Having the same mission around the 26th of the month would, in theory, allow us to fly without the NVG without any issues.
