VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
redtail replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Mod no longer works for me in 2.5.4 latest beta. Fails to compile error -
Awhile ago I learned of the "run as administrator" trick whiched worked fine until I recently. It bypasses Oculus Home so that it doesn't load. I ran into another unrelated problem on my PC, so I uninstalled the Oculus software and did a fresh reinstall. This gave me the current version, which apparently no longer allow the "trick" to work.

This really sucks. I spent all day troubleshooting and banging my head against the wall with this problem, thinking something was wrong with my setup. Now I know why my HMD is black until I start OHome before DCS. Unbelievable the crap that gets forced down the customer's throats!!! Ran DCS for well over a year without home in the background!

** DCS-F14 PRE-ORDER NOW AVAILABLE! Gameplay Reveal Video Update **

I'm not sure if this was addressed, but I'd like to know if there is a design or logo on the back of the t-shirts as well? Thanks -
** DCS-F14 PRE-ORDER NOW AVAILABLE! Gameplay Reveal Video Update **
redtail replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
+1 My thoughts exactly. HB Great job on the trailer! I'll preorder my copy later today. I still remember seeing the incredible performance of the Tomcat at the Atlantic City airshow back in 2003. It was my first and only time seeing one in the air. When he lit the burners over the beach, it was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had at an airshow! I'm so glad that a ran out and rented a camcorder that morning, because I had no idea that that would be my only chance to see her before she retired a few years later. -
Same here. I was 20 and saw it in the theater. 12 years later, I took flight lessons and got my PPL. Not because of the movie, but because I've had a passion for aviation from birth and an avid flightsimer since 16.

Harrier or F/A-18C - which one offers the best vr experience?
redtail replied to sirrah's topic in Virtual Reality
Yeah, give it another try. The Huey is an absolute blast in VR, as is the Gazelle! Fortunately for me, I never had either until after getting my Rift, so landing seems almost too easy. I can put them on any spot I desire, including rooftops with relative ease. As others have said, ALL of the DCS aircraft are amazing in VR! I don't have the Harrier, but the A-10C, P-51D, Spitfire and Hornet are incredible. I'm currently having a blast in the Hornet! The Persian gulf map is a real beauty as well. I'm eagerly awaiting the Tomcat. I had the pleasure of recording one perform at the Atlantic City airshow back in 2003. That was just before they were mothballed. What an impressive performance when he lit the burners over the beach!!! -
I have a lighted toggle switch (with safety cover) mounted to my desktop/pit. I use this for my Master Arm switch and couldn't figure out how to make it work as intended, until I saw your post. Now I'll try to replicate this for the other two switches and assign them to AA and AG. THANKS! edit: just realized the AA/AG are push buttons, not toggle switches. They're already coded for two pushes.

Yep. That's why I removed that spring awhile ago and it made a world of difference for me. I have much finer control now. I bought my Warthog as soon as it was released, but only recently decided to remove that spring, after seeing a post on mods. It was the best thing I've done.

Ok sounds good. I guess in the interim, I'll have to call up the boat via the menu system (yuk) Sometimes when trying to contact the ship, I'll hear my pilot call some weird name that doesn't appear to be an actual airfield on the map. Looking forward to an update, thanks.

Indeed, thanks again. Separate issue: For some reason, I can't contact the Stennis 127.5 FM (or any other freq) via VA/VC. In the mission editor, I have manually set the ships frequency. Still no luck. Is this a bug?
-
Yes sir. Tried both ways, chatter on auto as well as manually prior to entering mission. Results=chatter heard regardless of Comm radio state. No, I do not have the Garmin module. Just tried a ramp start in the A-10C, with the same result. Chatter is either always on, or always off. I will PM you as requested. Thanks
-
Did all of that but still no joy. Comm1 & 2 are working fine. I can request startup, taxi, takeoff, etc and get positive response from ATC. I can hear squelch from VC Pro as well as the cockpit radio when I press the button on the UFC next to squelch. Chatter only becomes active when I give a vocal command to VC Pro. Either in a cold or hot cockpit. However, chatter does not automatically initialize for me when I power up the radios. Thanks again for your patience, hard work and dedication to this incredible plugin!
-
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I just started up the Hornet, turn on the Comm radio and never heard any chatter. Easy Com (off). Please advise.
-
Thanks!

Thanks Hollywood. I'm looking forward to the increased volume. Are you considering making the volume user controllable? Also, is there something I need to do to have chatter only activate with the Comm radio when powered on, or is that the new default setting? I'm really enjoying your program while flying in VR! Awesome work, thanks!

+1  Fixed wing pilot here with zero real world rotary experience, so I can't offer any advice, but I concur with this comment. I've been flying various DCS modules, including the Huey, as well as other flight sims and enjoy them all. However, after I removed that giant centering spring from my Warthog stick, every one of them flew so much better, especially the helicopters! I have much more accuracy and precision now. I just recently purchased the Gazelle and I'm starting to learn her. So far, I really enjoy this module! In VR she is incredible.

Frequent 2 second freezes since last 2 updates
redtail replied to pimp's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Windows update (win 10) was causing major stutters for me. Once I disabled it in the Task manager (Services), the stutters ended. I still get an occasional hiccup due to scenery loading. Otherwise it's pretty smooth. 2.5.2 -
Sounds like a good idea. But I could have saved myself all the trouble by just booting into safe mode first and running a malware/virus scan. :music_whistling: Any suggestions for the USB bootstick, and will it detect a failing power supply? Because according to my research, my PC symptoms were very similar to a failing PSU. Mine is almost five years old, which is also why it was suspect. A Corsair TX-750, which is still running strong.
-
Be careful with that. I just experienced a nasty malware attack by running without an antivirus program. What I was doing is shutting down Windows defender before running my flight sims (DCS and X-Plane). The malware/Trojans and rootkit, was causing my PC to reboot every five to ten minutes or so. I racked my brain troubleshooting all day yesterday. Practically disassembled my PC that I built over a year ago. Disconnected all but one SSD, took out all four sticks of Ram and ran with one stick at a time. Ran memtest, updated BIOS, etc. Nothing fixed the problem, so I started to suspect my power supply. As a last resort, I decided to run malwarebytes again (ran it previously and cleaned out malware), but this time AFTER booting into SAFE MODE. Bingo! It detected more Trojans and a Rootkit that it hadn't found before! After I quarantined them and rebooted in normal mode (Windows 10), my PC ran fine. I played DCS for over two hours straight with no issues. So far, so good. I like Windows 10 and definitely have better gaming performance over Windows 7, but I've found out awhile ago that disabling Windows Update in task manager/services, eliminated my stutter problems. Be sure to check that. Windows updates causes me the most problems in Windows 10. Also turn off telemetry (Windows and Nvidia if you have one of their GPUs). I won't be running MWB or any third party anti-virus in the background, but from now on, I'll keep Windows Defender running! As well as doing regular malware scans in safe mode.

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
redtail replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Mine was just the opposite. I had to place the Vaicom lines above the simshaker lines to get it to work. With the Vaicom lines on the bottom, simshaker does not work. Weird that these two plugins are having issues with each other. And yes, I have the current version 2.5.3 that was supposed to fix things. Thanks for your post, at least it pointed me in the right direction to troubleshoot. I'm happy to have both working again.:)
