I'm not sure why you believe EDGE is so far away at this time. A newsletter 1-2 weeks ago stated with some confidence a 2014 release which means less than 3.5 months. Considering some of the additional projects such as the NTTR and Straights of Hormuz map that are being discussed as releasing soonish as well, I suspect more like a couple months. I'd love it tomorrow, but having been with ED since FC1 and DCS starting with A-10C beta 1, seems like it's coming tomorrow to me.

We have 2 props...2. We also have 2 jets (assuming you exclude FC3) and 3 helicopters. Oh god, not the helicopters. No one must have asked for those. Be grateful we're getting anything good. No one else besides DCS seem to be in to developing combat sims, so personally I am just happy for anything they're doing.

Are the throttles linked in the real A-10C?
ESzczesniak replied to Ranma13's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Well, it places a lot more stress on the engines. In real life, your time on station is also crucial. For strikes against a fixed target, you will need to strike at a specific time which will plan for less than full speed enroute (otherwise, if you fall behind, you can't catch up). If you are flying CAS, then you want to fly at maximum economy speed to maximize your time in the air. On combat aircraft, the wear and tear at full thrust is often of secondary concern. On the civillian side of things, takeoffs are almost always "derated", meaning they use less than full thrust. This prolongs engine life and increases the safety of engine performance on takeoff. On the combat side of things where there aren't 1-200 lives behind you and you have an expedient egress from the aircraft, it is easier to take chances. Still, it shouldn't be abused. On diving attacks, you may not want to be at flight idle either. It seems nice to be flying slow and have more time to line up a gun run, but this also gives the enemy time to line up on you. Generally speaking, you want to run in and run out fast to minimize TOT. Obviously you do need to pay attention to your maximum airspeed and be certain you will not overshoot this. Otherwise, fast is good. While exact profiles will vary by mission, gun runs over in the sand box are being flown frequently pushing in to a 60 degree dive from angels 10 or higher, pully off with 310-320 kts and a hard deck at 5,000'. Sure minizes the time down in the danger zone. -
Amen to that!

Third party developers certianly change the mix. However, DCS seems to me pretty balanced. Eastern/Soviet: 1. Current Map 2. Black Shark 3. About half of FC3 4. The Su-25 included free with DCS World Western: 1. A-10C 2. P-51D 3. Future "Fixed Wing US Jet" 4. Future Nevada Map 5. About half of FC3

Still hoping for the F/A-18C myself, but an F-15C wouldn't be bad.

Unofficial List of Upcoming DCS Aircraft
ESzczesniak replied to Bluedrake42's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I hand't paid much attention to the CoreTex, but are they doing an E or a C? The external model is an E. The cockpit is a C (Blk 5 I think?). -
All-in-all the DCS A-10C missions definitely work in DCSW with the A-10C module. With that said, there have been continued tweaks and improvements to the mission editor. As a result, some select missions may have triggers, etc. that are broken and cause problems. Not sure if you could be running in this as a problem.

Radio frequency setup: What do YOU prefer?
ESzczesniak replied to MadTommy's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I prefer a realistic setup. So each flight communicates appropriately on their own channel. There is a general channel for communication between flights (i.e. "AWACS" channel). And seperate frequencies for unique assets like JTAC or tankers. If a mission get's big enough, I would support grouping tactical assets on to different AM frequencies to declutter. -
Multiplayer Login - Invalid Serial Number
ESzczesniak replied to ESzczesniak's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Well, this route is definitely the problem I am having. Doing so did reveal my A-10C purchase. So, my question is how to I get this bound to my normal login with my 3 other purchases. I read their FAQ about "unbinding", but it says that anything purchases in the online store is bound to the account from which it was purchased...in a permanent sounding way. I swear I purchased all 4 modules through the same account. -
Unfortunately I have not been able to find an answer to my question searching the forums. I'm probably not getting quite the right search terms. I was looking to move on in to the world of online DCS. When I tried to load up multiplayer and login, I was told my serial number was invalid. I was logging in using my Eagle Dynamics account (not the forum login). Through my searches, I did become aware a few months ago people without BS2 were having problems logging in, however I do in fact own all the modules. All modules also show as activated. I do also remember that you had to have your serial numbers associated with your account. I have not however been able to track these posts back down to figure out how to associate the serial number or check if they are associated. When I look under the payment history at Eagle Dynamics, I see my BS2, CA, and P-51D listed there, but I do not see A-10C listed. Could this be the problem? And if so, who do I talk to to get it sorted out? If not, any other ideas?

Well, I feel I've gotten some help with from the jammer. If it is going to help you at all, you have to remember that it basically makes it harder from the SAM site to lock you, but nothing else. This means that the time to use the jammer is when you get the tracking tone from the SAM site. If I use the jammer at this time, it seems to significantly delay the SAM getting a lock on me. Now, I say delay because if you get close enough or give it enough time, they will still get a lock. But, it gives me time to get away. Once you have the lock tone/missile launch, it's too late. The jammer won't break through the lock and in this situations I see no effect using the jammer.

Yes and no. It reduces the range at which the radar obtains a valid firing solution (which is the matter of tactical importance). However, it functions by impairing the ranging of the SAM radar (without necessarily increasing or decreasing) and thereby degrading it's firing solution.

I have not had the oppurtunity to see a Merlin running in real life. However, unless you've had such a chance, I would urge caution comparing apparent idle speed in a video to real life/renderings. Because a video is captured at a defined FPS, it can play significant tricks of perception in regard to percieved speeds (based on relationship of RPM as multiples of FPS). This illusion is what's responsible for videos like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5POy9iKtPA&feature=related) of helicopters rotor blades appearing motionless. It is also responsible in most cases when it looks like a proppellar or car wheel is turning backwards. Simulators are rendered on to a screen with a defined FPS (refresh rate), but generally not at an absolutly fixed FPS. So, while you can see similar effects from simulation/rendering, it's less prevelant.

Also remember, for mark points you need to have the dial selector on the CDU set to "MARK" (as opposed to "FLT PLN" or "MISSION"). If you actually made these as new waypoints in the CDU, then "MISSION" is your setting.

Following the recent upgrade (fresh install) to 1.2.1, I am unable to interact with any of the controls in DCS P-51D. The assigned control axes to throttle/propellar/etc do not move their respect controls in the cockpit. Further, while the mouse cursor will change to the green symbols to interact, clicking any switches or buttons does not move them. I have the A-10C module installed as well and all works fine with that. I am suspecting this may have something to do with an error in activation, but DCSW seems to indicate that the module is appropriate activated. Anyone have any thoughts?

How to Identify Joystick/Throttle Axis in Game?
ESzczesniak replied to ESzczesniak's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Well, I don't know why I am stupid, but I am...I tried this several times and for some reason wasn't getting any axis recognized. Of course, I went back and it worked just fine now. No idea why that didn't work the first time I tried it before posting. -
I'm picking DCS (primarily A-10C and P-51D) up after some months off. I updated everything from a clean state and need to reset a couple of my controls. I'm using the TM Warthog and like having the zoom axis assigned to the dummy friction slider axis. I can't for figure out which axis this is though. Under the menu to assign an axis in the controls setup, I've got about 15 axes. In the Windows controller, this just registers as "slider". Can someone help me figure this out?

First, we are not computing at the speed of light. While many theories exist to achieve this, the energy required to accelerate an electron (which has mass at least part of the time) to the speed of light is unknown and by some theories may be infinite. Secondly, Moore's law has nothing to do with the speed of an electron through a transistor. It has to do withe number of transistors in a solid state printed board. CPU speed roughly equates to calculations per unit of time. You can increase this by increasing the speed of the calculation or increasing the number of calculations being worked on at one time (i.e. more transistors). One person working a 1,000 hours or a 1,000 people working 1 hour get the same amount of work done. However, the end product is reached quicker if the 1,000 people work simultaneously for one hour. Generally speaking, more transistors has been the method of increasing CPU speed. It's not a linear increase, but has been close. The primary limit at the moment to increasing transistor counts has been dealing with the heat produced. So far, manufacturing is allowing smaller and smaller die sizes that are alleviating that and allowing barriers to be overcome slowly.

Moore's Law...it's worked pretty well so far. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Transistor_Count_and_Moore%27s_Law_-_2011.svg It's not just about clock speeds and there have been clear and substantial increases in performance. I can't even think about trying to run these sims on aything other than an i7 now, but just 18 months ago I was doing just that on an intel dual core at the same clock speed. Albeit, performacne was much worse.

I would hazard to guess that somewhere a joystick or keyboard switch got assigned to the engine starter. Check and make sure that if anything is assigned to this in the controls, that it's only a momentary button and not a constant on switch.

seperate plane stick configuration
ESzczesniak replied to jimcarrel's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
There are seperate control profiles in DCS World. In fact, the P-51D has two specific ones for realistic and game settings. So no worries. -
I was wondering if someone could clarify "integration in to DCS World"? I see a link in DCS World to buy the A-10C. Will this patch allow us to transfer our A-10C purchase in to DCS world. And if I understand DCS World correctly, we'd be able to uninstall our A-10C installation and run every thing through DCS World?
-
I was happy last night on my visit by ED to see the P-51D is in beta. I also saw the new DCS World. I understand the concept is to bring the DCS products (BS, A-10C, P-51D, FC3, futureS) together. Where/how do I get the this DCS World? Is it with the P-51D beta? I have purchased this, but only just got it downloaded and am stuck in the hospital on call right without having installed it yet.

Well, I might be ok with that since it means they will need to give us a bigger map just to accomadate a single turning radius of the Starfighter !
