  1. I will still pay full price but it was not very professional of whomever was in control to end the pre-purchase sale and not specify the length of time the pre-purchase was valid for. Some people plan their lives like me - I planned on buying it specifically today because I knew I was getting paid today. Granted we're talking about $5 but the language and planning in ED releases is often missing key information. Something I would like to see improved. That aside - boy oh boy am I excited to get in this beast! So happy for the developers who made this remarkable sim.
  2. Congrats Letherneck! Already blocked out my afternoon to get in the pit! +1 on releasing the manual.
  3. I wanted to distill this down because it took me way too long to figure this out. Hopefully this helps someone else (special thanks to VincentLaw for getting me most of the way) : - Open the Orders page in one tab (second link above). - Open the Account page in another tab (first link above). - From the Order page, copy the bolded 6-digit number from the first order. - Paste it into the window below "Bonuses registration" and click "Find Order". - Apply the bonus. - Repeat the above for each order you have made. (Some orders do not qualify, like if they were already on sale when purchased.) - Add your new product to your cart. (It will appear as full price.) - Go to checkout. - Easy to miss, but there is a "Payment System" area above the SagePay graphic which allows you to check a box which will apply your bonus to your purchase (as much as qualifies). - Buy away.
  4. KA-50 has tracking for airborne targets and can fire from a standoff range, it's faster, smaller, and more nimble. Easy win.
  5. The video card/GPU plays a very small role in DCS for the moment (until the EDGE engine is released). Currently DCS uses 2 CPU threads, one for video and one for audio which by modern game standards is quite inefficient. As someone with a GTX570, older i7 950, 240GB Corsair Neutron SSD, and 18GB of RAM - I can tell you that DCS runs terribly and it has everything to do with the older i7. If I bought a new i7 4790K, 16GB of RAM, and kept the 570 - I'd get full frames at full res and it would be the CPU not the GPU that got me there. The question you pose also needs a budget attached to it. Personally if you have the money - go with the i7 4790K, 16GB of RAM, and a GTX 770, 750-900W power supply, and absolutely an SSD (like the one I mentioned). For lower end - get a new i5 with 16GB of RAM and a lower end GTX 700 series in the $180-$250 range.
  6. I had a very similar issue with the engine not starting (despite always working in the past before 1.2.8 ). The solution was to give it a smidge of throttle just before engine start just to get it past N1 20% - then as it would continue to spool up I'd back off the throttle, let the engines settle before boosting up the throttle again for completion. This only happened a few times and I haven't needed it since. I'm not sure what was causing the condition as I don't feel I've changed anything in my procedure.
  7. Personally, (I'm not sure if this is best) but when I switch to a gunner position I disable TrackIR with my assigned "Pause" key, (set in TrackIR manager) and then press LALT+C to enable mouse view (I think that's the key combo). I can then move the gun with my mouse, point, click, and guns guns guns! It's worth noting I have this process mapped to my HOTAS to make things quick and easy.

  9. On missions or free flights where it's just me messing about and don't really care - I will pop the canopy in flight on my way home or even earlier to get even more engine noise. It's pretty great in all the aircraft. Now you have something to do this weekend!
  10. This was a great questions with some very good answers. Funny enough, I was wondering the same thing since I left BS1 a long time ago and am just coming back to it. After lots of A10 and FC3, it is hard to get back in the mindset of a helicopter's roll and limitations vs. a fixed wing. I have been doing some flight practice myself with no goals, just getting used to the physics of the airframe (which seems to have been updated quite a bit since BS1). Also, I really like the tutorial on datalink with wingmen - I think it highlights the pacing of attacks; that they are planned and almost entirely standoff positioning. I am always tempted to fly in full speed and do runs on targets but realistically that never works as desired. ScottishMartialArts' analogy to infantrymen was a great one.
  11. I agree that if F-15C dev hurt F-18 then it's not a good thing. F/A-18 means SEAD and attack runs in addition to A2A so it's much more rich in the roles it can perform; I imagine the data link also integrates with the A-10C although I'm only assuming (position and SPI data shows up from F-18's in the A-10's TAD during missions - could make for some awesome multiplayer missions). The missiles in DCS still need a lot of work to make any A2A platform enjoyable - that should be a larger focus than improving the existing F-15C platform.
  12. It can take a little work but you'll find a sweet spot on the stick for each turn to keep it looking golden through the turns. If you're making a 0º Y axis pull on the stick in a turn, you will certainly slip even with SAS. I'd say practice on a 5º turn and then work your way up to more extreme rolls so you can get a feel for how your stick position should be depending on your velocity.

  14. It is actually the bombs that need to have the correct lase code, not your TGP if you are the one dropping. If you are the buddy, you need the same codes as your wingman's bombs. To set the lase code for the bomb, go to the INV section of the DSMS, select the rack, set the code and save (or save symmetrically).
  15. I've actually been having the same issue in Instant Action. I fire of either an AGM-65D or H and the missile never makes it. After about 10 seconds it is gone (can't even see it anymore in F6). Interestingly enough, the SAM's missile also goes missing after firing (only if I also fire on it). This seems to only have become a problem in the current version as I periodically fly the Instant Action.
  16. Correct - I mistyped. I used to have the two misnamed in my head so I am prone to mixing them even though in practice I'm always using the correct one.
  17. Once you slew the Mav to the target and are in range of the target you need to hit TMS Up Short to lock the target. Sometimes you'll be within the range bracket but it won't lock - this usually means the Mav needs to get closer still. Just hit TMS Up Short every second until you have lock. You'll know you have it locked because the crosshairs will begin to shake. Then you can rifle off.
  18. Your best option is almost always going to slaving the Mav to your SPI. My method most of the time is setting a target as SPI using the TGP (TMS up short to set point mode, TMS up long to set as SPI). Then slave the Mav to the SPI by using china hat forward long. DMS up short once you're in range to lock with the Mav. Now if you have a line of targets and you fire off one Mav, I usually use the Mav camera to lock the adjacent target. You can modify the slew speed of the Mav by changing the slew value (lower numbers slew faster, higher numbers slew slower). Between a good curve for my stick and slower slew rates for the Mav, I can usually ease the Mav onto the next target in line with little fight. Takes practice. I rarely ground stabilize my Mavs actually but I'm going to renew that effort for next time and see if it helps.
  19. In the case of a convoy - I would typically use Mavs to first clear out any mobile AAA/SAM threats in the line. This is also nice because it will make everyone else pull to the side of the road and pause for a good while. Then use CBU-87/103 for (very) lightly armored vehicles, if they're tanks and BMPs I'd use CBU-97/105. I typically use CCRP because I'm not great at getting stuff off the rails and away in a good amount of time. That being said, I've been playing more and more with CCIP in 3/9 or 5mil mode (set in the HUD settings). In the case of a completely AAA/SAM-less convoy I'd do a GAU/8 or rocket attack right up the line. CBU-87/103 for infantry, mortar sites, and trucks. CBU-97/105 for tanks, BMPs, mobile AAA/SAMs. GBU-10/12's and GBU-31's I reserve for standalone tanks, artillery encampments, bridges, mobile tanks, motar teams, and buildings. MK-82/84's I tend to avoid on windy days and I usually only use CCIP 5mil mode for these to help my success rate. They're great for messing up anything a GBU-10/12 can take care of.
  20. Related questions: When JTAC lases the target and you acquire the lase and the TGP is actively tracking that point - is that lase good enough for a GBU-12/10 drop or do you still have to lase it yourself. What is the benefit of an active lase from JTAC versus simply sending you the coordinates? My guess is because it helps track moving targets that may no longer be in the coordinate area? Does the Dragon Training Pack go into detail about what all the laser/JTAC related communications mean (SPOT/SHIFT/TERMINATE/etc.)?
  21. As I recall, the navigation alignment process is not highlighted in the startup tutorial. They have you engage the EGI and the EAC stuff but never mention waiting for alignment. This was a big issue for me in the beginning as I'd get a slew of issues after takeoff and couldn't figure out what I did wrong. Maybe ED should annotate that part for everyone since EVERYONE seems to run into this issue when they first start out.
  22. Unless of course your IP is 90min out.
  23. The specs you listed will work just fine. These two points, if applied to learning the A-10C, will absolutely work against you. I would recommend checking out the tutorials on YouTube to see if you're up for it.
