  1. Now line up static aircraft on both sides of the landing area. It's surprising how much of a difference that doesn't make since you can't see them all that well on approach, but it looks cool. Just be sure to keep them outside the fault lines.
  2. F-16 be pukin' hydrazine in seas like that. F/A-18 be like "What's for midrats?"
  3. I figure the 'normal' stuff will get worked on when people are ready to tear their hair out because the 'difficult' and 'complex' stuff simply isn't working the way it's supposed to work, and who wrote this crappy API anyway? :) My favorite 'difficult' is the JHMCS symbology, simply because I can work around most of the rest (yes, I can work around JHMCS, too). SLAM would be fun, but there are other options for blowing things up. Honestly, the item that would add the most is the most difficult to do (not surprisingly), and that's ground radar. On the other hand if you crack that nut for the F-18 you've advanced more than one module. Most of the rest looks (mostly) platform specific. As much as I'd like to see a bunch of those items it seems, to my ignorant view, ground radar does the most for DCS as a whole.
  4. Old, crusty, and works. New, shiny, and broke. Some day that will apply to the Ford class; it will be the old, reliable technology and it's replacement will be shiny and broke. Who knows what that technology will be...unmanned drone carrier with unmanned drone aircraft, and a bunch of guys who grew up flying DCS will handle air operations using their uber-spiffy VR headsets?
  5. Port and starboard 6x6 in port, not sleeping for a week because you're doing maintenance when you're not on watch, putting a rubber snake on the light fixture the CMC checks when he walks into berthing, listening to the XO explain how it's not possible to operate a reactor safely if you're wearing white socks, brushing your teeth with make-up water in 2SAR because the distilling plant is down again (make up water is so pure it will make you sick and tastes horrible, but better than nothing), telling the top siders they have to reduce fresh water usage when we're dumping fresh water into the bilge because all the pot water tanks are full...the list is endless. Deck crew is probably what I want to see the most. At least until they become annoying, because an empty deck is easier to navigate and I'm only on the carrier to get off it...at least until I land. Getting an LSO score, because right now I do traps in a vacuum and I really don't know how I'm doing.
  6. We already have a Vinson (CVN-70) though compared to the current Stennis it's a pretty poor excuse for a carrier. Wonder how much overhead there would be to turn the existing CVN-74 into a replacement for the existing CVN-70? Change the artwork, maybe? The current Stennis is a little small, but not enough to make a difference. As far as I know the current Vinson isn't used; at least I can't imagine why you would given the problems with it. That would give us a "free" carrier that works (current Stennis, now Vinson) and a Super Carrier version of the Stennis rather than free and paid versions of the same CV. Dang that looks confusing.
  7. If DCS doesn't see it then maybe using Target or one of the joystick macro programs?
  8. Heh. I just had a thought (that's pretty unusual, I like to make sure everyone knows it happened). My wife is Russian; lived in Russia for 36 years, still has that cute accent, still keeps up with the news from the old country and isn't shy about telling me what's going on with "Regional Governors" running n-COV response and utility bills and "HOAs" taking over the big apartment blocks and food prices and all that. I'll bet Kate and Chiz and Rik and the other people who live on that side of the curtain are laughing their popkas off at the angst shown by the couple dozen people here who's lives are apparently over since a new game module didn't get released when they wanted it. They're going to take their toys and go home. Hold their breaths 'till they turn blue. And those guys are wondering what you would do with a real problem. Your first world problems don't register; they know what problems are, and still they bust their butts for you. I'm pretty hard to perturb, but she reminds me that even the things that annoy me are good problems to have. I'll try not to have any more thoughts for a while. Probably time to crash into the back of a less-than-super carrier. It's fun watching the LSOs dive for cover every time I make a pass.
  9. Well...POO! I don't have a spare teensy put together. I remember needing one for the last 6 analog axis, and I'll bet that's where it went. My hobby desk has my dad's F-22 model on it (airbrush problems have put that on hold) and shooting season starts once it warms up and stops snowing; want steel challenge PCC Grand Master this year (already have RFRO GM, but only Master in PCC), need to get the STI cleaned and ready for the season...might be a while before I get the electronics out again.
  10. What a beauty. I hadn't noticed this before, but no rust. There's a crew that takes pride in their ship! You can WATCH metal rust at sea; take about a minute to get a surface coating, so a ship that big and that clean? That's a pretty super looking carrier right there.
  11. Oh, what a mess THAT would be! Since I've been working from home I haven't kept my wallet in my jeans, so I'd have to walk all the way upstairs to get it since I don't know my credit card number by memory. Then after I bought the module there's the whole 'have to put my wallet back on my nightstand' problem; another wasted trip up all fifteen stairs, but that's lower priority, so I might leave it on my desk. Then if ED releases ANOTHER module there's the whole 'where the heck did I leave my wallet' issue to deal with. It's a good thing ED hasn't done an pre-sale on the P-47 or Channel map. I'm not sure I could survive all the problems that would cause. Thanks, ED!
  12. So, what I'm hearing is I have four to six weeks to learn how to fly around the boat at a level that doesn't leave the entire dynamic deck crew face-palming. If they didn't easter-egg that hand signal in there somewhere I'll be genuinely disappointed.
  13. Was it really only $20? I can't remember anymore; that's not even a case of Pauliner. I wish ED would get the Channel map and P-47 into pre-release so I can give them more money. They're very hard to get along with some days.
  14. Sorry; had to go into the office for a bit and run a couple errands. Look for these lines in ~\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Input\FA-18C\joystick\default.lua. I'd put them at the end of this set. If I get a chance tonight I'll hook up a SPDT to one of my spare teensys and see if I can get it working labed up here rather than doing this the hard way, which is "try this" and "do that" with you in CET and me most of a day behind. -- Fuel Control Panel { down = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw_EXT, cockpit_device_id = devices.FUEL_INTERFACE, value_down = 1.0, name = _('Probe Control Switch - Up'), category = {_('Left Console'), _('Fuel Control Panel')}}, { down = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw_EXT, cockpit_device_id = devices.FUEL_INTERFACE, value_down = -1.0, name = _('Probe Control Switch - Down'), category = {_('Left Console'), _('Fuel Control Panel')}}, { down = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw, cockpit_device_id = devices.FUEL_INTERFACE, value_down = 1.0, name = _('Probe Control Switch - EXTEND'), category = {_('Left Console'), _('Fuel Control Panel')}}, { down = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw, cockpit_device_id = devices.FUEL_INTERFACE, value_down = 0.0, name = _('Probe Control Switch - RETRACT'), category = {_('Left Console'), _('Fuel Control Panel')}}, { down = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw, cockpit_device_id = devices.FUEL_INTERFACE, value_down = -1.0, name = _('Probe Control Switch - EMERG EXTD'), category = {_('Left Console'), _('Fuel Control Panel')}},
  15. USS Carl Vinson is open for business. No IFOLS; REAL sim pilots don't need one. You fall through the elevators, so I highly recommend not taxiing over one. The deck is finished in high-gloss fiberglass; makes cleanup from NBC attacks easier, and you can use a leaf blower to handle FOD. But it has wire-looking lines on the deck, and you can land on it.
  16. You, sir, and those like you, are my heroes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your time at the bloody end of the spear, willing to put yourselves in harms way for the rest of us.
  17. Well, let's be clear. It's completely true. Some examples: Real Fighter Pilot: Passes out at sustained 9Gs Sim Fighter Pilot: Drinks beer at sustained 9Gs Real Fighter Pilot: Evades the moment a surface to air missile or ten get fired at her Sim Fighter Pilot: Gets those last two ARMs off, then evades while drinking a beer Real Fighter Pilot: Never flies without at least one other aircraft on his wing Sim Fighter Pilot: Fearlessly takes to the sky with only a six-pack for company Real Fighter Pilot: Calls for backup when outnumbered eight to one Sim fighter pilot: I've got ten AMRAAMs, let's do this! Real Fighter Pilot: Will fly in (almost) any weather condition Sim Fighter Pilot: Has the power to control weather Real fighter pilot: Spends months at a time away from home defending their family Sim fighter pilot: Escapes their family for a few hours at a time to play a game
  18. The C only carried 10 AMRAAMs once that I'm aware of (not that I'm aware of everything). ED giveth, and ED taketh away. Enjoy your 8 JSOWs and don't think too hard about where they came from.
  19. I counted 21 3PST switches in my pit...and that's not one of them (what are the chances of EVER needing emergency extend? :) ) However, you asked for probe, so probe you get! Will this work? { down = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw, up = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw, cockpit_device_id = devices.FUEL_INTERFACE, value_down = 1.0, value_up = 0.0, name = _('Probe Control Switch - EXTEND/RETRACT'), category = {_('Left Console'), _('Fuel Control Panel')}}, { down = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw, up = fuel_commands.ProbeControlSw, cockpit_device_id = devices.FUEL_INTERFACE, value_down = -1.0, value_up = 0.0, name = _('Probe Control Switch - RETRACT/EMERG EXTD'), category = {_('Left Console'), _('Fuel Control Panel')}},
  20. If you have a multimeter you can test continuity, but most DPDT switches don't work quite that way. I have quite a few 3PST switches and that's exactly how they work. So what you have are two SPDT switches tied together. You can probably edit the lua to get the job done...which specific control are you trying to get working?
  21. They must have used ground air to start it; the APU hasn't been run since it came out of the paint shop.
  22. It's probably on-off-on; if you're seeing on-off-off it might be wired wrong. Can you send a picture of the bottom of the switch? Visuals are priceless :)
  23. I bought them fully expecting I wouldn't fly any for years, then one day I sat in a Huey and crashed it almost immediately. I'm pretty much a closet rotorhead now, alternating between fixed and rotary wing. Helos are a lot of fun... Yeah, day one. Two at the latest if they release while I'm on the road.
  24. ED doesn't use a recurring revenue model, so I'm thinking nobody will notice. Maybe a little quieter on the boards, and possibly a little more civil and pleasant. I'm still trying to figure out how that's even a threat. More like a petulant tantrum. If SC is delayed that's just more time before some AI LSO tells me I suck. I might stick to the Stennis/Vinson for that reason alone! I'd hate to find out what happens when I miss some yellow-shirt's directions...suddenly find Air Force recruiting posters on my rack...
  25. I don't get why everyone gets to twisted around the axle. The Navy launches carriers into early access, then adds features (weapon elevators, the ability to launch aircraft) as development proceeds. EA charges tens of dollars for their EA, the Navy charges tens of billions for theirs. Seems to be ED wins by orders of magnitude.
