  1. Quick question What do stabilization channels actually do in the tomcat? (When autopilot is not being used) Is it just dampening, like in the F-5, or is it a bit more advanced? I know it's not full FBW, but I don't know what exactly it does to the jet. Thanks
  2. I used to struggle with a similar issue. If you have good frames after a while, then the GPU is doing it's job just fine. It's the hard drive that's the bottleneck here. Get an SSD, and your loading times will be significantly shorter But yeah, I'd also look for an upgrade with the GPU. 12GB Ram should be enough as long as you don't try to mess with large amounts of units.
  3. +1 The greyhound, while not contributing to combat ops, is a vital part of carrier operatons. It would be very cool to have one for immersion/mission making
  4. Thanks dude!
  5. Thanks guys!
  6. I remember the AIM-7 being borderline useless a few months back. Is it still not working correctly or was it maybe fixed? Thanks
  7. Basicly the title What are the differences between the different AIM-7 variants? To my understanding, the F is an older version of the M, with the same motor and aerodynamics, but worse seeker (is that right?) I m especially confused about the difference between the M and the MH. Thanks in advance
  8. The aircraft is rated at 9G. If you pull more (especially suddenly) there's a good chance you'll damage the aircraft.
  9. -You'd be suprised how many people fly with ECM off. Plus, you have to remember, our modern aircraft are not gen 5, but late gen 4 at best. They don't have a lot of stealth features, if any, which means the F-14's AWG-9 won't have too much trouble picking them up, as long as they don't enter the doppler filter, which is rather large (+-100kn) -If someone is indeed jamming you, that doesnt stop you from firing missiles at them. While i m not sure if tomcat's missles work in HOJ modes, you can still fire a TWS phoenix in the direction of the jam. By the time the missile closes the distance, it'll have burned thru the jam. That will probably be corrected with the AIM-54 logic update, because the phoenix will require a "go active" signal from the aircraft, but for the time being, it works. Also, i don't think you could say the phoenix has "poor manouverability". While it is a massive missile, it has a LOT of speed, which allows it to turn less for an intercept, and turn easier with that metric shitton of speed (mach 5 in favourable conditions) -The F-14 was mostly retired because it was an old aircraft, which was getting too expensive to operate. It wasnt worth the money that had to be poured into it, to keep it alive. It's primary mission (bomber/missile intercept) basicly vanished after the fall of soviet union, and while it was still a very capable aircraft, it wasnt up to date. By 2006, when it was retired, the legacy hornet had 9x's, JHMCS, JSOW, JDAM, AMRAAM, and a LOT of other stuff the tomcaf simply didn't carry. Could the navy make an even better tomcat? Probably. Would it be woth it? Probably not, at least that's what they decided. They went for the super hornet instead.
  10. I want the A model as well buddy, but the B came 1st, and it's kinda late for HB to make the A variant 1st by now We're just gonna have to wait On the bright side, Cobra has been teasing us with an update recently, so we'll probably hear more about the A then
  11. I think (if you managed to lock up a ship in the 1st place IRL. Maybe radar to TCS slave would do the trick.), you could launch a fox 1 and have it guide to that target, however, this is likely a DCS limitation, having more to do with the fact that DCS doesnt think you'll shoot A/A missiles at ships.
  12. The AIM-54 was about ready to get an update on the guidance algorithms, and be the true Phoenix, but some issues came up in late testing, and HB had to delay. That was a couple weeks (if not a month or 2) ago, and we essentially havent heard too much since then. Cobra did make a post recently announcing news on fhe subject very soon, so I'd expect to hear more about the phoenix there. TL;DR It's coming along. Slowly, but surely.
  13. @jojo your story does make sense, and yes, helicopters rotor blades will go thru tomcat's pulse doppler filter, but you do have to remember that the F-15C has significantly better doppler filter system in it's radar than the F-14A/B. You could test if it's an ED thing with the F-15C, and see if you can pick up helos at 40m.
  14. The helis are most probably too slow to be picked up through the pulse doppler filter. You're gonna have to either: A - Get a human RIO (or jump in the back yourself if SP) and ask him to find them in pulse search B - Use ACM modes (PAL, PLM, Vertical scans), cause these work in pulse. If escorts are a problem, take them out 1st so nobody is bothering you on your turkey shooting spree Good luck!
  15. As far as i remember, it'll be going out into EA with 14 spawn locations, and ED will try to fit 18 spawn location by release
  16. There is already a number of good Iranian liveries for the B. I imagine a lot of them will be re-made for the A, when it comes out. The only question is, when will the A come out.
  17. If the autopilot master is off, the the autopilot is disengaged entirely. Maybe it's a bug? Can you repdoduce it?
  18. I may be blind, but I was unable to find any info on whether or not the aircraft carrier elevators will be functional, either EA or Release, and if there will be a hangar below the main deck of the carrier. Could someone please clarify this? Thanks
  19. Hey, I m looking to do some time accurate missions for the Tomcat, but I can't for whatever reason find what year was the Phoenix with the Mk 60 motor introduced to the fleet. I'd greatly appriciate any info. Thanks!
  20. This. We need this.
  21. No. The best you can do to do that, is either: -Have the RIO manually find the target with the TCS (jester can't do that) -Lock the target STT and then break lock and go TWS. The TCS should continue tracking the target on it's own
  22. I think you'll recieve info about the strongest signal (which is most often the closest aircraft) on that tacan channel. Not 100% sure about your 2nd question, but i think the same thing. People tuned into 01Y will recieve info on nearest 64Y, and likewise
  23. I've had that before. It's rather rare, but it happends sometimes. Got no clue why it happends, but i havent had it in a while now.
  24. If you're with jester, you can get an stt lock, and then TCS will be slaved to the radar, and lock the target. If you then loose lock, TCS will maintain the (TCS) lock, giving you the position of the target on the TCS display, and the HUD To do more with TCS, you're gonna need a human RIO.
  25. There's a pretty decent built in campaign for the hornet. I think it's only 5 missions long, but it's quite interesting.
