  1. Ok. Thanks and sorry for bringing it up again. I didn't find the linked posts.
  2. The MiG-29's have the same little screen that the Su-27 and 33 have, and yet it's only used as a hud double, which is quite frankly quite useless. It's hard to imagine it'd be there for only that reason. Is this intentional? Am i missing something? Does the MiG-29 just not have datalink? It seems like a major oversight, and something that would be installed with later variants. What's going on here? The datalink would make this bird much better at what it's suppouse to do, and it feels a bit handicapped without it.
  3. I don't think you're correct in your "tacan fix over enemy territory is impossible" assumption While on caucasus, this may be true, as tacan stations only exist for southern airfields, on PG for example, almost every airfield has a tacan station, that would allow for pretty decent tacan fixes. Keep in mind the further from the station, the less accurate the fix. As for visual fix, it is rather limited, yes, but when doing CAP, you usually fly over your own coalition's territory, letting you descent and do an accurate fix If you're stuck at high altitudes over enemy territory, you can try using the lantirn (if you have it). Point it at your waypoint, and press the fix right as the camera swivels around to keep track of the target. That's when you're directly over it. Lastly, radar fix is not all that useful in most terrains, as it's difficult to map a terrain feature on the DDD. The best way to do a radar fix, is to have a waypoint on a small island somwhere, or an oil rig. Something small over water, that will allow you find it easly with the radar. After you've found it, it's a piece of cake, the problem is really finding it. I personally most often do visual fixes, as i find tacan and radar fixes to be too inaccurate. Sure, i loose some altitude for a bit to be accurate with vis fix, but it gives you the easiest nav fix, and is pretty damn accurate if done right.
  4. I like the idea, but i don't know how easy/difficult it would be to implement. I think it's worth looking into for HB.
  5. Fun fact: the main lobe clutter when the MLC control switch is left in auto mode will automaticly be turned off when the radar is looking a few (i think 3) degrees up Another fun fact: as a RIO, you have to constantly play with your radar elevation settings to keep a guy in tws when he's notching you and co-alt or lower Oh, and another fun fact: jester is kinda bad with radar elevation right now While i'd love to have such an option, i don't think it'd be very useful as of right now, because jester wouldnt know how to use it well, and human RIO's have it already
  6. Oh man... Now it's gonna bug me too...
  7. To be fair, what you heard was not wrong. On launch, the F-14 was possibly the most demanding module in the game. Many issues were ironed out in early access, so it's much better now, but it was quite bad on launch.
  8. This behaviour is normal, and is to be expected. The diamond is used in the gun lead symbology, when there is no lock, therefore it cannot be used to show the current scan pattern of ACM modes. When you get a lock, the diamond will indicate hostile aircraft's position, like with missiles, and the cross pipper is your gun reticle. I personally found it to not be an issue, just as long as i keep in mind what ACM scan pattern i m in, and even if you forget, just go plm for one sec and select a new ACM mode for your radar.
  9. If you're having trouble with voive attack, chances are, you didn't train your computer how to listen to your voice. There's an option in windows (which you can also access via voice attack) to train your computer. It will give you a bunch of text to read out loud. This will allow the pc to be much more accurate when listening to your voice. It "gets used to it" Another thing that might be happening, is you're saying wrong commands. I do that sometimes with my voice attack, where i'll say "jester, give me flare" instead of flares, and VA doesnt pick it up as a command. TL;DR, i think voice attack is by far best way to talk to jester, and you should give it another shot. It's worth it.
  10. No. Only jester can do that. You can get a human rio tho. They are much more competent than jester most of the time.
  11. I have a question Is it possible to do any INS fix with jester, and if it's not, is such a feature planned? To be more specific, i mean any kind whatsoever to get jester to update own aircraft position. Even sitting on a ramp and feeding coords manually to jester would suffice for my question. Thanks!
  12. Well, if you don't want datalink from any link 4 host, just turn off datalink. If you want fighter-fighter datalink, it doesnt require any modding, since F-F DL turns off host data in the tomcat
  13. A few things come to mind: -targets may be too close together for the WCS to detect or display them all -targets may be so far apart that they don't all fit in the scanning cone of your radar (unlikely at 80nm) -if the bears are cold, the doppler filter may be removing them, because of similar speeds compared to your aircraft -if the bears don't have their flight path defined for long, they will reach the end of it pretty quickly, and then turn to land at the nearest airbase. That turn may be causing them to notch you, and drop for your radar. Double check that the bears are told to fly towards you for a long time -radar elevation may be wrong (very unlikely, but worth double checking) I reccomend you put an awacs in your mission for your coalition, and see where the contacts are, and what are they doing. Might clear up why things arent going well. Best of luck!
  14. I don't think you can disable any systems of an aircraft you're not in from in game Unless you shoot them If you want to do that in the mission editor, try finding the datalink system under faults. You can find that section when you select an aircraft, and then look for it in the same window you edit waypoints and loadouts. Not sure which tab it is tho, so you'll have to find that yourself.
  15. If you're with jester, ask him to turn off datalink system, or tune it to different frequency. If you're the rio, the datalink panel is on the right hand side of your pit. It should have the frequency selector wheels on the left side of the panel, and the mode switch on the right.
  16. That's not righr Vitory205. The pattern is still executed if there is no STT lock. However, the visualization was removed in this update https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3852900&postcount=50 4th line from the top in the tomcat changelog "Change sidewinder HUD movable reticle to show only center of scan pattern." This indicates the scan pattern still exists and is running when you have no STT, you just don't see it. However, i m pretty sure if you have someone STT, the missile will slave right to him and not execute the double d pattern
  17. I think it actually indicates the aircraft's AoA. The position should always be near the center of the glideslope, so there is no need to color code that feedback, but i can't think of another way to display AoA, and the colors do change with different AoA. Try making a shotty landing, and remember how your AoA changed during it, and compare it to the trap sheet I just don't know what blue means
  18. DLC on an axis is definitly a good idea, if you can make it easly accessible. I personally use a slider on the front of the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X, and it works very well for me. A similar slider can be found on the Thrustmaster T.16000 throttle. However, despite having the DLC on an axis, i still find myself using short duration, high deflection sort of "spurs", so a button would be enough for that, but i'd definitly reccomend an axis instead. The real thing used a spring centered axis, so that's the most realistic control you can have over it. Plus, having an axis gives you more options on what to do with the DLC TL;DR It's worth it
  19. Yeah, it's for assisted startup with jester
  20. In MP it will work exactly the same as in SP. It's just that not only your map markers will be displayed in the jester menu. The best way to be sure you're selecting the right waypoint, is to name it something, and look for that name in the jester menu when selecting the marker for a waypoint. I don't really know how to do it without the jester menu.
  21. Sparrows launched with the ACM cover up should go to flood mode if there is no STT lock, and you could (probably) launch them with the WCS switch in standby, but i m not sure if they will lock on after launch
  22. That's not entirely true The F-14 does have a pulse doppler filter, allowing it to look down and shoot down, but considering it's 60's tech, that filter has a considerably larger window it can be notched in, than modern radars. Without getting into it too much, if you have someone on radar in TWS, and jester fails to get an STT lock, you should probably get closer, but that's not because of the doppler filter. Most of the time, the radar return simply isnt large enough for the radar to track well. It doesnt happend often with large aircraft, but i did find myself loosing locks often on fighter sized targets from 30-40+ nm. I can lock them fine under 20nm, but when i m firing further, i usually use and reccomend TWS phoenix
  23. Write down target coords from lantirn or just screenshot them You could also use your Mk1 Eyeball
  24. The "boring jester" option is (or at the very least was advertised to be. Never checked for it myself) in special options, and should get you what you're looking for
