Some things I learned from the real AJS37 manual
Snappy replied to LastRifleRound's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Where did you the real AJS37 manual from? Edit: Disregard ,feeling somewhat stupid ;) Regards, Snappy -
Well have you had a look recently at their forums how many other modules they have announced in the meantime and which are supposedly in various stages of development? Lets not even talk about how much stuff in their released modules is unfinished or bugged and which they at least said , has priority over their next modules. So their A-7 is likely years away still.. Honestly, I think a little competition is not too bad for the customers... Regards, Snappy

Would disagree on some points. Not wanting to high five the F-14 and agreeing that its HUD is somewhat ancient but workable. However I wouldn‘t call it the simpler aircraft.Or at least it depends on how you define simple. One look in the RIO seat and intro into the operation of the AWG-9 alone should remove any doubts about the complexity involved. Also its definitely the more difficult or lets say challenging plane to fly effectively of the two, due the lack of FBW. But in regards to involved display system and avionics options, sure the F-16 is at least a generation ahead with much more options and stuff to set up and manage in that aspect. Regards, Snapyy

Much as I can understand how you re looking forward to these features, with the current massive performance issues of the 2.5.6 update I really don‘t want to know how the sim runs with even more strain added by these features.. Of course its possible ED can fix the performance issues and I certainly hope so. But the trend with the last updates has in my personal experience mostly been negative in regards to performance and later updates seldom recouped earlier performance losses for me. Don‘t have the answer to that. Regards, Snappy

Ok maybe you really don’t know... Recommend some reading in the mirage section of the forums. The „Current state of mirage...“ and „one of the best modules “ -threads are good places to start. Member Tugais wrote a good summary recently, to quote him (hope thats ok Tugais?): The most recent bug reports made by some of the most regarded players in the Mirage community : AG weapons: going into attack mode triggers AA radar close combat mode. radar elevation control bugged: you can't trust the min/ max altitude values next to radar cursor as soon as you move up/ down the scan zone. TWS: detect only one target. Bore sight mode: offset to the right Vertical scan: offset to the right. vertically it scans +/-15° instead of -10°/+50° SVI & vertical scan (depending on selected weapon) are triggered before bore sight. You can change radar range in close combat mode (it should be 10Nm scale only) The radar screen displays line number setting even when using 1 line mode (like displays 4 in TWS which is 1 line only...it should not) The symbols used to identify contacts on top or bottom line (V with wings or under lined) are now unusable. Like target at the same altitude, radar elevation 0° on 4 lines scan mode. The contacts should be detected on line 2 & 3 (with overlap). So it should be displayed as simple V. Currently it's switching between V with wings and V Waypoint positions are bugged. Waypoints don't appear in the game world where you set them in the ME. This, coupled with #1, makes IP bombing useless. It also means the Mirage cannot drop on a waypoint or perform any cold war style strike mission. IP bombing is not consent to release like it should be There you go.... As you can see there are quite some items with bugs and issues. Regards, Snappy

Sure, as I wrote you can play this in different ways and why not, its still only a game after all, despite the somewhat prominent simulation tag in etruscan language. You paid with your money for it, so whatever floats your boat. Whether airframe bending is modelled, can‘t say.Don‘t think so.Maybe with the new damage model it will be introduced. That should make things interesting.. Regards, Snappy

Ok so I was not the only one thinking that the main tactical advice could be condensed into „throw NATOPS out of the window „ Not wanting to dimish his skills , nice flying and general coaching. But I wondered why this way of fighting didn‘t cause more damage to ownship.I mean he seemed to be putting out flaps somewhat regularly between 300 and 350kts and the reduce speed warning light goes on already at what , 225kts? hmmm. No doubt it gives him massive turn rates, but I think in reality the Flaps would get stuck or asymmetries really quick given both the speeds and the g-loads under which they where deployed. @eatthis Elegance may have nothing to do with this, but if you break the jet in a knife fight you‘ve lost as well. Just because it worked here, doesn‘t mean its a realistic way of fighting. But thats another can of worms, with the Hornet guys exploiting the Paddleswitch and so on.. Guess it comes down to personal preference,do I want to fight in a way that’s somewhat unrealistic but maximizes efficiency in DCS or do I want to simulate somewhat realistic maneuvering but accept performance disadvantage in regards to people taking the former approach. Regards, Snappy

Can relate to the OP . Though I get that others view it differently, personally speaking , I found it a very tasteless choice too - especially in view of what Twistking wrote already , that normally these marketing outings are designed & reviewed through and through down to the details . Hopefully they‘ll be a bit more considerate in future trailers. Regards, Snappy
-
Yes Pilot body is very nice, but personally I‘d rather see the many bugs adressed .
-
Yea, it all sounds very nice. But as others have pointed out already, so far its standard ED ops: Lots of big announcements and marketing claims and very little tangible actual progress. Won't get too excited until the stuff is actually here and given the announcements vs actual delivery relationship of the past I think it might be several years till then. Personally I would prefer ED to scale down on the big flashy trailers and announcements and instead quietly stealthily roll out some real updates and pleasantly surprise us, but its their train set so hey.. Regards, Snappy

LoL, pls get real.It was you who came in here complaining about unrealistic FM for Eagles&Flankers having totally wrong info... Whatever have it your way.I'm enjoying the F-15/Sukhoi fighter challenge here,so I'm staying put.
-
Well guess you and some dudes have to go elsewhere for MP then .. Since I‘ve dispatched some F-15 and Flankers with guns flying a non -FC3 aircraft myself already , running out of fuel clearly isn‘t the only way to get rid of them. However even today in a guns only fight, the F-15 /Su-27 present formidable opponents if well flown, so you can‘t expect an easy fight, even if you‘re in a F-16/18. Perhaps some reading about BFM and tactics might help . Regards, Snappy
-
Hm maybe do a little research first? The FC3 Birds(all except A-10A&SU-25) have had PFM (Professional level Flight Models) for a while now. So they're as deeply/realistically simulated in their flight behaviour as the full modules and do not have arcadey or easygame flight models. Also last time I checked you could black out and GLOC in them just fine, but happy to stand corrected on that. Well regarding the No-Padlock , you have to wait for Flighters reply on that. My guess it, its not available for a reason. Regards, Snappy
-
Yea, like it or not, but I find the omnipresent criticism quite understandable.Given the state of the Mirage and Harrier and the somewhat glacial development pace on the many open issues and bugs, you can expect some blowback after announcing yet another new project on your already full plate, different development teams or not.. Instead of taking shots at customers, maybe you could elaborate on why the bug fixing is so slow despite the stated priority of completing/fixing your released modules or why many bug reports aren‘t even acknowledged anymore? Regards, Snappy

Hi, yea agree on the sometimes chaotic guns only area.Right now I‘m not aware of many other public servers with somewhat reliably populated 1v1 zones. Doesn‘t mean there aren‘t any , I don‘t get around to playing MP often, so I don‘t check out many servers. If you find another good one let me know ;-) Regards, Snappy
-
Can you maybe boil it down to the simple question: Do I enjoy/want Air2Air? That should make it rather simple.Only an Idea. Regards, Snappy
-
Spiceman, thank you very much for your super-quick reply! So am I understanding you correctly , after the emergency wing sweep handle has been pulled out and used to move the wings directly/manually via the cable system and you want to return to normal wing sweep mode , you have to move the yellow handle along its fairing arc until you find the spider detent and can push it back down into it, so that the servo system can re-engage? So the actual spider detent itself isn‘t visible from inside the cockpit, looking at the throttle quadrant- it‘s in the mechanism below it? Kind regards, Snappy
-
Hi everyone, can somebody kindly explain to me what exactly is meant with the expression „spider detent“ and where that detent is located(picture of it would be even better). I get that it is related to the wing sweep controls, it was also briefly mentioned by the F-14 crew on the Tomcat episode of the Fighter pilot podcast but I couldn‘t understand the explanation. It‘s also mentioned once or twice in the manual, but only briefly referred to, not in a description unless I overlooked it. So if someone could explain it to me again, that would be nice. Kind regards, Snappy

Hi, suggest you give the „Just dogfight“ servers (there are 2, one is open beta, one stable, check the server info ) a try . They each have 2 1v1 sections as well as a guns only area and are generally oriented towards quick action ,with easy jump-back in once you‘re shot down. Very fun. Regards, Snappy

Best dog fighting move in a F-16 from a true F-16 pilot
Snappy replied to oldtimesake's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Yes , fully agree with you on the training part. Right now it seems still hampered/ limited by the A.I. implementation/behavior. A while ago I played a bit with the mission editor trying to create basic BFM setups, like you mentioned, a perch or butterfly setup. But so far no success as I couldn‘t get the A.I. to cooperate reliably (so that there a training / demo value) in these canned scenarios. They seem to have a mind of their own, which is not bad per se, but unfortunately not much seems to be going in their minds... Hopefully this gets improved in 2020. Or maybe someone with better skill in the mission editor is able to pull it off, I‘m far from an expert with it. Regards, Snappy -
Short question, what exact conditions must be met to refuel/rearm my aircraft? For me the „ground crew“ comm menu seems always grayed out and the crew usually doesn‘t respond , even after engine shutdown and landing on a correct/own side airfield. Do I need to be in a specific spot on the apron? I thought it worked on the entire airfield. Kind regards, Snappy

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know by chance whether the radar in the A-7 (D and E variants) had a basic air to air capability? I know its in no way a fighter, and that it carried the AIM-9 only for self defense, but I mean for gun ranging or lead computation? Regards, Snappy

I understand your confusion. Can't say why they chose this specific concept for the video,it was way before the age of youtube. Maybe to make ppl feel like they were part of a class in basic BFM. Or they tried to bring a tiny bit of TopGun atmosphere into it (there is a vague similarity to the ACMI debriefing scene in the movie ) Anyway like Sn8ke wrote, he was the technical advisor to an early (at that time for PC groundbreaking ) sim and the manual,as well as this video was meant a basic introduction into some bfm concepts I guess. Sure from todays viewpoint its looks dated and out of a place in some ways, but so do a lot of things. Not sure wether this helps clearing up your confusion:) Regards, Snappy -
Contact, did you even bother to read Etirions quote?! if so, it seems you didn‘t grasp the point.. Regards, Snappy

Where do the old flaming cliffs aircraft stand ?
Snappy replied to Csgo GE oh yeah's topic in Multiplayer
Agreed for the most part. However apparently its what most people want, boring (personal view) fbw sensor - potent 4th gen blue fighters. As ED for one reason or another (dont want to start that discussion again) is unable or unwilling to put out competitive eastern modules , if will likely stay that way for a long time, with mostly blue force turkey shoots. But it has nothing to do with being good at it. Personally would like to see more cold war era modules , where skills and tactics matter a bit more. Regards, Snappy
