TCR 2010: Race started tonite
Boulund replied to golfsierra2's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I've only just begun sketching on my flight plans with altidude, speeds, when and how to turn, doing test runs, etc... Looking forward to using as much time as possible =) -
I'm not that fond of the sounds actually. I like it better the way it is =) It still seems there is some interest for it though ;)

An important question arose just this minute - does the windscreen wipers work?? I'm continually amazed by this kind of tech, wasn't there another video circulating in this forum of a luxury jet with the same kind of detail?

Perfect stick for A-10C from Thrustmaster?
Boulund replied to some1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm kind of wondering what your doing prancing about claiming my bad screen-capping of the Thrustmaster flash-ad is yours? Or am I misunderstanding your post? None-the-less it looks like a smacking nice hotas coming out this year =D:joystick: -
Looking really awesome! Sure looks thousands of times better than the (I'm gonna say it) crappy helicopters available for fs9/fsx. Reasonable price as well, only $25

I also agree that Bioware's Dragon Age is probably the best game of 2009. But I still voted for Black Shark since I know I'll be playing it A LOT longer than I will Dragon Age. Probably have had and will continue having more hours of fun with DCS than I have/will with Dragon Age. It would be totally awesome if Black Shark managed to get in second or even third place though! Imagine people going - huh? wtf is that getting such high scores in the poll that I've never heard about - that would really increase simulation awareness imo! -
Does anyone know if there are any reviews of Wings of Prey out anywhere?
-
I must say, I really like this game when all is working as it should. Still got that strange whiteout-effect that looks more like crazy HDR than anything else but it is a very fun game! A bit tricky to configure your joystick but it works. One thing I miss is a way to increase the field of view, I feel totally cramped looking through a small tunnel like that. Graphics wise the game is a real treat! I also want to mention that it works flawlessly with FreeTrack
-
I just tried the demo and I also get get white-outs whenever the sun is anywhere on screen and I'm in the cockpit. It's really wierd... I've got a Geforce 8800GTS (G80) with the latest drivers
-
One amazing thing in this patch is the native support for FreeTrack! Bohemia seems to have listened to its fans! =D

anyone knows about freetrack in wings of prey?

Simple as that =) It shouldn't be incredibly hard to produce a Ka-50 vid where the blades look like that are seated perfectly still I think. If you capture a film with a high frame rate and in post processing cut out all intermediate frames where the blades are in the wrong position. IMHO the small rpm-changes during pitch angle changes would be very minute and easily fixed in the end. But of course, if the rotor RPM is indeed 257 it would be hard to capture it directly at "fixed position". =) It still looks very cool though ;) Just thinking of how big the changes in rpm are when adjusting angles or heavy manouvering. It couldn't be more than tops 0.5s lag in engine response? Then maybe we could observe maybe 1.5-2.0s delay until rpm is restored fully (just making numbers up, if you know, please correct =)). How large could the drop be? I seriously have no idea but let's assume say 5%, that would be 244 rpm directly after that 0.5 lag (we've now taken two frames with the rotors in their incorrect position). Within the 2.0s time to get back to nominal rpm we've managed to capture 16-20 frames with the blades in incorrect position, but just how far away from their correct position where they? I think that the small change in rpm might displace the rotors a little bit, but not entirely enough to ruin the illusion of stationary rotors, especially from a distance. I'll see if I can't think a bit about this next time I get to sit down for a while =)

BS still in a hefty lead. Tell all your friends! =D -
Isn't rotor rpm actually quite stable? I thought only it was changes in blade angles that increased or decreased lift. At least in the Ka-50?

TrackIR conflict w/clickable cockpit - ne1 notice?
Boulund replied to Woots's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I mapped Alt+C to my HOTAS so I can switch between modes whenever I feel like it in a heartbeat (whenever I want to zoom essentially).. Otherwise you just have to keep your mouse entirely still when you're not clicking switches =) -
Tell me more about this! Looks very interesting to say the least. If it's anywhere near IL-2 please do tell I'd love to know when it'll hit retail and price, availability etc.

I'm almost always not flying online unless it's winter holiday or something like that. Expect to see me online the first three weeks of januari 2010 =D

I was just thinking about the ground crew actually, kinda figured it would be like any other aircraft licence that you just smack onto your flight certificate :smartass: How much is fuel for this thing anyway? Did they change the engines btw? Is it allowed in Sweden to fly about in over mach 1? Can I even buy it and take it to Sweden? :D I was thinking that if I ever get 5 billion dollars, I would probable have nothing left to pay for the upkeep of this beauty anyway ;)

It's not like you're gonna go to the airfield and get this bird in the air on your own, is it? Btw. Is the pilot in the first video practicing for Trans Crimean Race? =D None-the-less. BRUTALLY cool thing!
-
Actually, I'm -not- glad it got sorted by upgrading to another OS. It's just another way of saying "we have no idea what fixed the problem". This isn't problem solving (technically it is, since the problem is solved... but in a lousy way =D) but problem by-passing. I'd love to know what really caused these 20min loading times! =)

Man, you're a tough one :D I still think the cockpit looks very nice and without knowing what other cockpits look like (they where all hopefully brand new one day long ago) I'd still say it seems like it's awfully nice to get the opportunity to fly this pretty thing.

Sorry that was not at all what I meant, but of course that is the most likely course. I just meant that it must be quite a feeling to sit down behind the controls of that newly built bird and take it for its first flight. All the buttons shiny new and no worn off paint on the controls and crispy clear new MFDs with a crystal clear window without scratches to look out through etc...

This is a common way to increase the "feel" of smoothness in game engines that suffer from temporary FPS-drops I think. I've seen it implemented in several other games with the purpose to reduce the sudden change in FPS-flow when the game hits a rough part. Say for example you have part where you average 80 FPS, when you suddenly pop a couple of flares or whatever your FPS drops to 35, this is less than 50% of your previous FPS - something VERY noticeable I tell you... If you limit your FPS to 30 like you did, you wouldn't even notice this drop because you're constantly just putting out 30 FPS and thus have less noticeable FPS drops (it seems in your case you seldom dropped below 40 even). One interesting thing to know in a thread like this would be HOW you did go about to limit your FPS to 30? I reckon most people only limit the FPS to 60 or something using vertical sync. Honestly, what is the use of a thread like this if you don't tell how you did it? Obviously it's mentioned in your crosspost in the Lock On Help desk section but it's really a benefit to newcomers and others interested to mention it in your first post of the thread.

It's actually insanely cool this thing. Imagine you work for a company that's been planning a thing like this for years, then finally you get to sit in the freshly made cockpit in an orange suit and finally take it for a ride - and it works! Looks really nice. Question: Cool that it is so "cheap" in comparison to Globemaster etc, but will it actually replace those models? I think I read somewhere that it is going to replace Hercules and Transall ?
