Rgr, mine can do 4ghz no probs also but I havent got the balls to run it at that 24/7 like you :) I just take it upto what I think is a decent performance gain whilst trying to limit the damage that is inevitably done to the cpu/mobo/ram in the process, but the i7 range are just too good that one MUST OC them :) BTW, I looked at the link in your sig regarding your pc, tidy I must say ;) EDIT: TBH, if you have it running at 4g 24/7, I woudlnt hold out much hope for your memory controller living past sept of next year, but, cpu's are so cheap you will probably have upgraded by them, so its prob a moot point.

Those 920's OC easy, just bump up the bclk. I have a 930 with a h70 cooler, thing is hella easy to oc, I have mine sittign at 3.6 with the temps at 34oc idle and when all cores are maxed out at 100%, the highest the main core gets is 62oC and the rest are all below that. i7's are monster OC'ers, but if you can, avoid the 950 if you ever think about upgrading, as they dont OC as good as the 20s and 30s, and alot of them are hitting a barrier at 3.6/3.8 and cant go any further unless crazy voltage is applied which means wrecking the shit outta your cpu and possibly mobo and ram.

Viper you hax, I still havent got my WH yet, I still waiting for saitek to release their new pedals before I buy the WH, as their would be no point in me using the WH without a proper rudder setup, si I have decided to wait until saitek release their combat pedals and ocne they do, as soon as they do, I will snap a set up and also order the WH. TBH though, I am not really interested in playing about with the beta and having to install every month or so, I am quite content letting all you guys find the faults and fix them for me, so the wait for pedals and the stick isnt as bad as it seems. Saying that, you are still a hax, as you are probably the only person in ABZ to have a set you lucky bugger ;)

Sorry to hear about your Little Man, McQ, I never noticed this thread til just now, I could actually of been done with the 52 pro as my stick is half baked and falling apart, ahwell too late now, but not too late to make a donation ;) Anyway, congrats to the winner and I hope the Hospice got enough funds to keep doing what they do best, as places like that are invaluable and sadly in todays climate, they are usually first on the firing line when the NHS has cutbacks. People spare a thought and please donate to places like these, as they provide a truly excellent service during extremely hard times. R.I.P little Man McQ

How many gig of ram is too much?
bumfire replied to leafer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Unless you use something like photochop or something else that REALLY eats up memory, then you are unlikely to need more than 4 gig, but to be safe 6 gig is more than ample for everything people are likely to do on their pc with the exception of hardcore chopping or encoding/decoding etc. 6 gig is the new 4 gig sweet spot. Leafer, if you are gunna upgrade your ram, dont buy more than another 2 gig, as it is a waste as you probably wont see the benefit from more than that. If what you do on your pc atm is fast enough for you and you are not having memory problems, then go for the heatsink. Up until recently I ran win7 64 with 4 gig of ram, I never thought I needed more ram, although I upgraded to 12 gig and I dont notice a blind bit of difference. -
I did, when I was alot younger and stupid, I declared war on someone when smoking a d00b, infact the war even started and quickly erupted to such a degree that the d00b died. :(

Yup, Sad indeed. The Nimrod MRA4 would of been a world beater ( yet again :) ) when it came into service, basically a brand new aircraft albeit made from old airframes, but as you are probably aware a good part of it was brand new. It would of been top of its class had it not got binned and it should of proudly provided service for the UK for atleast another 20-30 years. I find it hard to believe that these cuts were made with any sort of thorough examination, I think whoever did it, just closed their eyes and took a pen and made marks on a piece of paper that had a list of things, where those marks were made related to what gets cut. I really believe somethign stupid like that was done. I really forsee a snap election happening next year, especially when all these cuts, not just military but also civil cuts start to hit home, then all those numptys who voted Conservative will be wishing they didnt. Especially when the rich lot see this; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11623885 The Filthy Rich Conservative voting inbreds will be cursing the very day they voted to get rid of Labour, although both parties are just as bad as one another, but I think at this stage in the game it was better to stay with the devil you know, rather than the devil you dont. Atleast until things smoothed out a touch. Cyclops wasnt all that bad now I come to think of it, but then again he did kinda remind me of a :pirate:

The F-15 Golden Eagle vs. the F/A-18E Super Hornet
bumfire replied to SgtPappy's topic in Military and Aviation
Ah, the Harrier would pwn both :) -
75oC ??? Nvidia gpu's dont slow down/throttle themselves til they hit 100 - 120oC if I recall correctly, so it shouldnt of died at 75oC. Even at 100oC all that would of happened is the card would of underclocked itself which would then reduce the temps until it got below the safe temp margin and then it would of went back up to stock clocks. The only reason I can see that happening is if the heatsink to it wasnt put on correctly, but on the whole nvidia cards dont throttle themselves to protect from overheating til atleast 100oC, what it could of been was maybe the memory chips on the card were overheating since they just have passive heatsinks on them, so maybe the ram chips were overheatign and causing your problem ?
-
I would trust ati software more than asus for gpu. But to double check it, install rivatuner, that will give you the temps and better control of your video card.

You lucky man Cali, getting to work with all those boys toys would be a dream job ;)

The nimrods provided more of a service to the UK than the harriers ever did. The harriers going is sad, but the Nimrods is a disaster, they could of EASILY found money to keep them, just because we are in debt, it doesnt mean to say that everything has to be cut. The nimrods going, doesnt just affect the nimrods, but it is affecting thousands of people in that commmunity who supported that airbase, as the airbase is likely to get closed now, throwing thousands upon thousands of people in that area onto the dole, in that area their is no other real employment oppertunities, so the nimrod going has a deeper effect than just the planes not flying. This government is having a kneejerk reaction and are cutting alot of things that will not produce any meaningful savings in the longterm, which should be the main focus, saving a few billion once may sound great, but in a couple of years they will be back to square one, they should of looked further ahead and cut things that would continue to save money 10-20 years into the future instead of just 5. They could of actually did a proper defense review instead of the half hearted effort that they put in and claimed it to be a defense review. Seriosuly, the Nimrod, the MK4 and the previous marks before it was invaluable to the UK, it was a great intelligence gathering platform, weapons platform, surveillance platform, search and rescue platform and was used daily in the UK around our shores and elsewhere in the world, not on traning missions like the harriers, but earning its actual pay nearly every single day. Now the Uk is left without a credible platform for ASR, Surveillance and intel gathering unless you want to count the Merlin helo's which are far less capable. I dont care who is to blame for wasting the cash, because the cons are just as bad as labour were, but a proper defence review would of been nice instead of a kneejerk reaction that will be felt for years and will in all likelihood take us back to square one within a few years. Ok things have to be cut and our belts have to be tightened, but they could of found better ways to do it.
-
This has been a total shit week for the Uk armed forces, all the cuts and now to top it all off, HMS Astute has run aground before it even entered service, what a week.
-
Happy Birthday GA, listen, me and my missus need someone to make a home movie of us in action ;) interested :)
-
A total fkin disaster getting rid of the nimrods, seriously, the only thing that really shouldnt be binned is the nimrod. These things were great for surveillance around our coast and offshroe search and rescue, and for conservative twats to bin them, well lets just say, I forsee an emergency snap election coming soon, as no way is this gov gunna last 4 years, not at the rate they are going by binning and closing down everything.

OCZ vertex 2 120GB mini review
bumfire replied to Pilotasso's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Loading times are critical if you ask me, nothign worse in havign to wait for the OS boot or for a program to load. These things are the best upgrade a user can make to their computer if they already have a decent cpu and video card, after years and years of mechanical drives, these things bring new life to your OS, everything goes from ok'ish speeds, to crazy fast speeds when you swap over a mechanical hdd for a ssd. I am glad you like your new vertex Pilotasso, just remember to keep it in good condition, trim and garbage control isnt great, so you are best to use one of the many app's out there that will reset the nand blocks. I use AS Cleaner with FF box ticked, which resets the empty cells to new, if I am installing my OS again, I use HDDErase which resets the drives to the state they were when brand new. This is my hd tune graph for writes, you gotta love these things :) -
Aliboy, anyword on when russia will hand over the new carrier to india ? As the INS Virat is badly needing replaced. Anyword when its due in service ?
-
Sad day indeed, but as moa said, for what they are used for atm, the tonka's would do the job better. I also see Ark Royal has been binned aswell. This new Gov certainly is on a scalping expedition, pretty soon all that will be left of britain will be the immigrants.

1 month with SSD(Solid State Drive) - Great.
bumfire replied to 815TooCooL's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just speeds up loading when loading a mission and also loads up scenery quicker whilst flying. Overall you only notice quicker loaidng times, thats the only effect I see.
