F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
_mu110_ replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Cobra stated that they were aiming to release it sometime this week. -
As I understand it, LTWS is like a slower updating version of TWS that doesn’t support weapons solutions, but is able to maintain a much larger scan volume than TWS.
-
If I recall correctly, you can setup the JDAMs to impact in different patterns, for example 2 or 3 in a row (basically a ripple), or in a diamond pattern, etc.
-
Does our Legacy Hornet have the ability to do different pattern releases with multiple JDAMs?

TrackIR Light Filter Threshold
_mu110_ replied to GrEaSeLiTeNiN's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks a lot for posting this, I have had similar problems when flying with my curtains open during the daytime, now it works perfectly no matter what the lighting conditions are. -
As I see it, a big goal of these upcoming features is to make air starts easier. For example when flying some of the instant action dogfight missions, I have around 30 seconds before the merge to turn on JHMCS, set up my altimeter and turn on the radalt, set up my navigation on the HSI, declutter the HUD, and if I’m lucky I have a few seconds left in which to desperately setup my countermeasure programs. As I understand, the new aircraft/mission cards would let me have some default settings for some of these and would make life a lot easier. I am interested in what you’re saying about some of these features being available already to the mission creator. My only experience with this is flying Bankler’s Case I Recovery training mission. As soon as the mission starts, the HSI is already setup correctly with the right course selected, and TACAN is set to the carrier without me having to do anything. My guess is that this is accomplished through some scripting in the ME, but I have yet to see anyone else do something similar.

Thanks for making that image, the picture clears up a lot and I’m pretty sure I understand what functionality you’re looking for. As far as I know, the JHMCS is tied to wherever the camera is pointing and I don’t know of any way to change this. Keep in mind I have no experience at all with triple monitor setups, especially not in DCS. As I understand it, the three monitors provide you with a fixed camera view, and you want to move the JHMCS around within that area. Again, I don’t think this is possible, but like Zhukov stated, I don’t understand how useful this would be since your viewpoint is fixed (unless you using a hat switch or something to move your entire field of view up/down or side to side.)

This weekend is looking to be quite interesting!
-
This probably isn’t the best place to post this, but has the template been released? I’ve been unable to find it after looking for a bit.
-
My mistake, I meant channel not layer. Are you using photoshop?
-
Check the file’s alpha layer and make sure it lines up with the numbers on the rgb layers.
-
In the options menu, look for the F/A-18C aircraft special options, there should be a setting called Realistic TDC Slew (or something along those lines, not at my computer right now.) Try turning this on or off and see if you get the functionality you’re looking for. EDIT: Simultaneous post
-
Wags also stated that the aircraft and mission cards will be coming in the next open beta update, which will provide you with the functionality you’re looking for.
-
Most excited for pullback mode, engaging pop up SAM threats is gonna get a lot quicker.

What do you mean by “IFF on”? Have you selected the contact on the SA page and interrogated it? All contacts should show up as a square on the HUD until you manually use the IFF. It should also be noted that IFF and radar are far from complete, for example if I remember correctly friendly locked targets on the HUD say “FRIENDLY” underneath the square, which is not yet in the game.

DCS World 2.5.x Caucasus Terrain Textures
_mu110_ replied to Mustang's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Seems like the most likely explanation since I can't download even my own large files. Looking forward to trying out this latest version. -

Sensor of Interest and radar acquisition mode issues
_mu110_ replied to Badash's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
As I understand it, when you're in AA mode pressing sensor control switch forward will put the radar into ACM mode (this is different when using the HMD). Once in ACM mode, sensor control switch will put you into the different acquisition modes instead of controlling which DDI the TDC controls. I'm away from my computer right now though so I could be wrong. -

The numbers on either side of the TDC cursor on the radar screen will tell you the altitudes between which your radar is scanning at the range your cursor is at. Use these numbers in conjunction with the radar elevation control to make sure that you are scanning at the right altitude to detect the target.

Thanks, I definitely took a lot of inspiration from the way you present your skins so that really means a lot!

Just updated the download, I have corrected the names of the skins in the description file.

VFA-127 Desert Bogeys was a Navy aggressor squadron which operated the F/A-18A from 1992 to 1996 after which they transitioned to the F-5. They were stationed at NAS Fallon where they provided adversary training for Pacific coast squadrons. This pack represents the squadron circa 1993. Every effort has been made to recreate as accurately as possible each of the five unique camouflage patterns present, and each skin includes accurate BuNo's (including inside the cockpit). As far as I can tell, these are the only 5 Hornets ever flown by this squadron. Unfortunately, pictures of this squadron are notoriously difficult to find, at this point I feel like I've seen just about every picture of these aircraft that exists. I have had to do a bit of improvisation here and there on some of the liveries (mostly on top and bottom of the wings). I have also been unable to find a good reference for what names belong to which aircraft during which time period, so although the names are historical, which exact aircraft they are painted on may not. This pack should therefore be considered semi-historical. If anyone has some good references for these feel free to PM me so I can update these. Included in the download are aircraft numbers 01, 02, 03, 04, and 06. Each camouflage livery has been hand painted, and each of them is unique. The skins all feature flags of either Cuba, Libya, or Iraq. Each livery includes false intakes painted in black on the leading edge extension and on the side of the fuselage which are intended to mimic those of a Mig-29. The dark green line that runs down the underside of the aircraft is supposed to simulate the shadow between the Mig's two engines. This pack also includes tan flight suits as well as white helmets with the velcro patch and accurate squadron patches. The BuNo of each aircraft is historically correct, also included are the matching illuminated BuNo's in the cockpit. Each livery is covered in a number of warnings, icons, and other details, I have recreated these myself so the text on these should be a bit clearer and easier to read than those from the regular texture template. Note: These aircraft are almost always pictured without any pylons, so I have kept them the standard gray color. I was also only able to find one image of one of the aircraft carrying fuel tanks, which were also plain gray. I have included a couple different designs of alternate fuel tanks in the pack which have the same camouflage pattern as the aircraft if realism is not your number one priority. Simply go into each livery's folder and swap the [ALTERNATE] in the filename from one fuel tank texture file to the other. It should also be noted that since VFA-127 flew the F/A-18A and we have the F/A-18C in game, there are some slight inconsistencies. I have colored the antenna bumps on the C model to blend in with the camouflage paint job, but if someone wants a version with these the standard gray color with the "do not paint" text, please let me know. 3 of these aircraft (01, 02, and 04) were sold to Spain in 1995 where they got a very unique yellow Spanish aggressor camo job that I plan to include as an bonus for this pack in a little bit once I've completed it. I may also include a gray VFA-127 skin from while it was being painted that I have some pictures of. Download: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3304268/ Installation: Copy the five different VFA-127_0X folders included in the download into your DCS World OpenBeta/CoreMods/aircraft/FA-18C/Liveries/FA-18C_hornet folder. These skins are available for both the US and US Aggressor factions in game. Please don't reupload these skins anywhere without permission. Please let me know if you find any errors with the skin or have any comments/questions. Enjoy!

To identify a target you must put your cursor over a track on the radar page and depress the sensor control switch. This will do an IFF interrogation of the target and update it’s symbol on the SA page accordingly. To identify what kind of aircraft it is if it is hostile, you just box the NCTR option on the radar page. For the non-cooperative target recognition to work you and the target must be heading towards each other and be within range.
