  1. Including the "/" does not conform with the Tri-Service Aircraft Designation System. That was my only point. I had already written I thought the whole "F/A" thing was more of a gimmick than anything.
  2. Designations for multipurpose airplanes is not unique. There have been TF, EA, and FB, just to name a few. The anomaly with the Hornet is why the inclusion of the "/" between the F and the A. There was an effort during the first half of the nineties to take out the "/" and make it FA-18, but that was obviously not successful.
  3. Yes, the "F/A" designation was essentially a marketing gimmick that didn't follow the Tri-Service Aircraft Designation System but stuck anyway. The reality is fighters dropping bombs wasn't a new thing. The F-4, F-8, F-105, F-100, are just a few examples. Even the mighty F-14 Tomcat came from the assembly line ready to go. The U.S. Navy just chose not to use the capability. But maybe the distinction with the Hornet was important at the time because the Navy was buying the jet to replace the A-7, which was a pure attack aircraft. Buying fighters that could drop bombs wasn't unique. But there would likely be skepticism that an attack aircraft could be an effective fighter.
  4. Thanks. I guess
  5. Patch Tomorrow. Maybe that will be The Day.
  6. As well as the realistic performance. Right now it seems more like a berserker switch than just an over-g one. Pulling that thing turns it into a whole different airplane.
  7. After thinking about this for some time, I now think a better solution would be a more aggressive g-loc implementation for all aircraft that could be turned on and off at the server level. Perhaps begin greying out at 1g over the operational limit for each aircraft, with full g-loc at 1.5g's over. This would give the player a visual cue to start easing pull if he is so inclined, while still applying a penalty for the excessive over-g if they continue with the pull.
  8. If you can contact the server admins, you can ask them to add the A-10C II, too. I can't imagine that would be a problem.
  9. Great, thank so much!
  10. This is sounding very, very promising. I know improvements are moving along kind of quickly on this mod, but when things settle down a little would someone consider posting some layman-oriented download and installation instructions? It's probably just me but I am pretty confused. I've also been to the Discord but that didn't help. Thanks in advance for all the effort.
  11. See them at their Discord here: A-4E-C for DCS (discord.com)
  12. To all Aviators, Pilots, and DCS Gamers Welcome to “Bandits Inbound!”: Air-To-Air Engagements With this server we want to see if there is an audience for trying to fly the jets in DCS more closely to how they are flown in real life. This means making an active effort to not use any exploits or techniques that result in less than realistic performance of the aircraft. Because there is no way to enforce this concept at the server level, we must rely on the honor system. And to ensure all players are aware of the rules, the server is password protected with the password available to anyone who requests it (see below). When you receive the password, you will also receive the rules so there should be no question about the expectations. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience this additional step causes, but truth be told we aren’t looking to attract a large number of participants so much as dedicated enthusiasts. Players who are determined to willfully violate the rules will be banned. Some points to keep in mind are: The server is currently hosted on a mid-range home PC, so the number of players is limited by the equipment. It will also not be available 24/7. If the demand becomes big enough, we will investigate more robust hosting options. Be mindful that this is our first server, and we are still learning. Please be patient as we work through any bugs. Guidance and advice are welcome. We are also new to creating missions; same thing applies. As we move forward, and depending on participation, additional missions will be added. Since we are trying to simulate real-world scenarios, the jets do have empty pylons (where available in the mission editor) and external fuel tanks, so it’s your responsibility to jettison the tanks if necessary. The opposing jets start with twenty miles of separation to give time to set up. Additionally, for the sake of “emersion”, external and map views are disabled. To start with the jet selection is limited to the F-16, F-18, M-2000, and JF-17 because they all have FBW and don’t rely on the player to minimize over-performing the jet. We can look at expanding that list if demand requires. “Real life?”, you ask. “What about that damn paddle in the F-18?” Probably the biggest thing we are trying to avoid, at least at the start, is blatant over-g’s. So, if you choose to fly the F-18, do not use the paddle. Period. I’d recommend removing the mapping from your controls if it is your habit to pull it. The bottom line is that if you use the paddle to gain an advantage over your adversary, you will be banned. Unintentional over-g spikes will NOT get you banned because they are not unheard of in the heat of combat. However, it is expected that everyone make goodwill attempts to remain within the operating limits of their aircraft. After all, that’s the whole point here. The HMCS in the F-16 and F-18 are disabled. Heatseeking missiles for each jet are the oldest variants available in the mission editor. SRS is installed and set up for players to communicate within their respective coalition flights on their aircraft’s UHF radios, Channel 1. Opposing coalition flights can communicate with each other on UHF Channel 2. The server is currently limited to eight players due to resource limitations, but that number will be increased if participation warrants it. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, email me at a2aengagements@gmail.com for the password. Please include your DCS username or callsign.
  13. The Su-25T comes free with the base game, along with the TF-51.
  14. Wasn't the Su-25 included in Flaming Cliffs?
  15. He might be, but the fact is the Stable version exists to mitigate the update risks you're concerned about.
  16. Not that I have found. But you can use "Lock view (cycle padlock)" with "F2 Aircraft view" and "F2 Toggle local camera control". But for some reason not with "Object free camera". There is also "Lock Terrain View" that can be used with "F2 Aircraft view" and "F2 Toggle local camera control".
  17. Yes. Early Access always starts with Open Beta. If you want to wait, it will go to the Stable branch as soon as it is, well, stable.
  18. A small point: If you want to be realistic, in the Marine Corps they are called, “Aircraft Wing” not “Air Wing”. So “3rd Marine Aircraft Wing” is correct. The Navy has “Air Wings”. My apologies for being so pedantic but I couldn’t help it.
  19. It’s still in testing. Pre-order customers will get early-access after testing is complete. Expecting ED to release it to customers in an untested state is unreasonable.
  20. Your question wasn't addressed to anyone in particular so you might want to remember this is a public forum.
  21. The F-8 is also on the way but not getting any love here.
  22. Not an unreasonable request, but this is probably more suited for the Wishlist than the Bug thread.
