  1. You are correct, sir. You did not say, no. But what if ten server admins said they would use such a thing? Would you deny them the option?
  2. No, I am not the one to define "balance" because I don't run a server. However, I know of at least one PvP server that has right in their briefing, "Maintain Balanced Teams (numbers & skill)", so I assume he would use such options if available. But I would leave it to them tell ED what they want, if they even want it at all. You guys on the other hand are just spring loaded to "NO!!!" without even any details, and quite frankly unless you run a server than I think your opinion counts as much as mine, which is zero. I'm just throwing the idea out there in case some server admins like it.
  3. Define "balance"
  4. Don't be so negative. There are lots of variables that can go into "balancing" teams, and of course, server admins would have the ultimate choice of using any of the options or not. Have faith! It can be done!
  5. I would like to see a built-in function that would allow server admins to easily enforce team balancing. As I understand it admins must currently write custom script if they want to do that.
  6. The latest on their website is v5.3.1. I have that installed and still experience the disappearing hands described above.
  7. Thanks for the explanation. I can't think of any real tangible harm in doing that, but it still feels wrong. I know it makes it impossible to know how many people are on each team.
  8. I noticed a player with no callsign on a multiplayer server last night. As in blank, with no characters. Is that a option that’s supposed to be available to people? When I tried that myself DCS wouldn’t save the name.
  9. Miles posts the currently shipping orders on his Discord. Yesterday he posted he was up to orders made by 2020/12/31
  10. Would the point of that be to select intermediate flap positions? Something in between full up and full down?
  11. I'm sorry but I really just don't understand the problem. You wrote above that you "really want to use a 2-position switch for the flaps". All I'm saying is that you can do that now with the key bindings available: FLAPS UP and FLAPS DOWN. I apologize if I'm missing something here.
  12. I don't understand. The flaps are not "ON/OFF". They are either UP or DOWN.
  13. Aren't there already a "Flaps Up" and "Flaps Down" key bindings?
  14. You offer a lot of insight and opinions on this topic of combat aircraft employment so I can only assume you are an actual fighter pilot or someone else embedded in the system. If so then I'll defer to you.
  15. I am not sure how to reconcile that with the reality that the Hornet is the only fighter on the decks of US carriers. Granted today it's the E/F rather than the C, but they are still 7.5G aircraft so the principle is the same.
  16. I'm guessing the changes made into the patch itself but not the notes
  17. The F-14 forum should light up anytime now
  18. In the A-4 the pilot did not hold the stick during launch. The pitch trim setting stick would make the stick move back as the jet accelerated down the catapult, so the pilot held his open hand in his lap and let the stick come to his hand.
  19. This thread has been a very interesting read for me. I spend a fair amount of time in the dogfight servers exclusively flying the F-18 and I don't remember my wings breaking for anything other than battle damage. I do try to minimize using the paddle as much as possible, but still find myself pulling it occasionally. NOTICE: I The experiences provided in this post are my own and are not intended to contradict or dispute the experiences of other DCS players.
  20. I am pretty sure this happens if you use the VAICOM Windows Installer download rather than the .Zip file (manual install) download.
  21. Nobody said anything about a "modern standard". The fact is it can operate during day, night, and IMC conditions. It does have limitations because of it's antiquated avionics, but it can be safely in all weather. If you crash it, assuming all the avionics are working properly, then you made a mistake, a bad decision, or the jet was deployed beyond it's capabilities. But that doesn't mean it's not an all weather aircraft.
  22. First of all, the OP was talking about flying the jet in IMC conditions, and for that it is well equipped for it's day. Second, I don't think delivering ordnance in crap weather is the requirement to be considered "all-weather". An airplane that could do that would be an all-weather bomber like the A-6 or F-111. The F-5 on the other is, I believe, considered an all-weather fighter for it's day. It could operated and navigate in IMC conditions, getting to it's target area safely just like other fighters of it's day. It also has radar to find and target aircraft at night an in IMC and could engage enemy aircraft without seeing them. Although I concede that would be very close and sporty. Flying it in all-weather conditions only requires adequate training and a stout heart. If someone has documentation that says otherwise, I'd be interested to see it.
  23. That's sounds more like a limitation of the pilots' training and qualifications than it does of the F-5's IFR equipment. Maybe a case of fair weather pilots flying all weather jets.
  24. Google: jeff cooper modern technique of the pistol Nothing to do with aviation but he was a Marine officer during WW2.
