Nothing has been "removed". Just a technical hiccup. Please try now. It appears to be working correctly. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/shop.php?end_pos=1322&scr=shop&lang=en

It's just an older model. Not entirely sure what the bigger differences is, but remember that there is no such thing as "the AFM". Every "AFM" aircraft has it's very own, hand-crafted, flight model. Sometimes it's easy to transplant (like Su-25T -> Su-25), but you don't, for example, get a P-51D flight model through tweaking values in the A-10C flight model. You start over from scratch an analyze that specific aircraft. (But of course, when you've done a few of them, you get better at it, and I would expect that just like in all software projects there are code snippets and functions and so on that you can re-use.) Contrast this to SFM, where all SFM aircraft actually use the same flight model - just with different values plugged in. For a "survey" simulator, being able to do this is pretty key from a financial point of view, since scratch-building is expensive and time consuming. But with the decision that was made for these new AFMs, it seems the long work is paying off. :)

Correct.

From the E-shop, see here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/shop.php?end_pos=1322&scr=shop&lang=en "Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 will require an installation of Lock On: Modern Air Combat or previous version Flaming Cliffs." Red text copied from the e-shop. :) FC3 is a DCS World Module. It works with DCS World. But as the red text states, it requires an installation of LOMAC. This is due to contractual obligations to Ubisoft, who own the LOMAC franchise which FC expands on. If you are in the US, you can purchase LOMAC cheap as a digital download from Ubisoft. Otherwise you can purchase it on CD from Amazon and other retailers, or us from http://www.lockon.co.uk

Actually, I think this is a better way to explain it: With an AFM, your airplane is made up of many many components (for example, your landing gear :D ), wich each has forces computed and these are then summed to get what happens to the aircraft in general. In an SFM, you have "an aircraft"; you have one set of parameters going in, which are compared to the table and get some other magic done to them. Basically, with the SFM, there is no such thing as "just one gear". There is just the one "aircraft object". Doesn't mean it is strictly impossible to get fancy landings and so on with such a thing, but it becomes a bit of a hack - it is a lot better to simply get a proper AFM in place rather than have all kinds of ugly special-case stuff going on constantly looking at whether you might be landing in any of a zillion funky ways.
-
You set a touchdown condition (or a few) looking at position relative to terrain and check parameters at that moment. Basically: the way it was always done, until computers became strong enough for proper AFMs, which is relatively recent. (Last decade or so.) Doing it dynamically is way more complex, especially if you don't already have dynamic data - which, for table-models (which was standard until recently) you don't have.
-
Can also happen when you have a bad target altitude source, for example having entered it manually rather than getting it from the targeting computers, and then flying below that configured altitude. You can see this on the bottom right of the HUD. See page 394 of the A-10C manual. (EDIT: on page 399 you can see what it is supposed to look like: notice the "DTS" in the low-right infoblock. This indicates that altitude source is DTS. This can be set manually, and when you do this, it becomes possible to fly "under" your CCIP target, causing this message.)

"DUXFORD, UK, April 30th, 2013 – The Fighter Collection and Belsimtek now offer "DCS: UH-1H Huey" as a digital download pre-purchase for $49.99 $19.99. Pre-purchase also provides access to pre-release Beta versions of the title." http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/ You are not "buying the beta". You are buying the finished product but before it is released. And get access to Beta as a bonus.

I want everyone here to calm down. Be constructive, polite and on topic or face my wrath.

I have responded to your tickets.

Did you set your point as a SPI? GBU-38 are satellite guided, not laser guided. You need to feed it target location before release - after that it goes to the SPI. If the target moved - it'll go to where the target was, not where it is.

Since there is aerial refueling, and the flanker drivers are overhyped by supposedly magical Slammers, not like we Eagle drivers ever need to land... I kid, I kid! (And now run into hiding.) EDIT: Good snipe on the comment thread creation, btw. :D -

dbw, I believe I answered your ticked during the day today, but in case yours wasn't one of them, please PM me your ticket number (or post it here).

My point is that it then becomes a non-question. You mentioned not being a fan of DLC and "paid-for upgrades" etcetera, saying "it has to be worth it". My point is that this is a non-issue. You either got what you already paid for - which was the feature set already described - and then purchase additional features developed afterwards. Or you decide that the additional features aren't worth it and don't buy them, whereupon you still have the original features you considered to be worth it. Either way, I really do not see anything negative here, which is my point. There seems to be this idea that developing paid-for additional content is a bad thing by definition, as if the addition somehow removes from the original. Which is something I just can't wrap my head around. It's like being upset at the option of buying an extra coffee after you already paid your tab at the restaurant - would it be better if they said "no, you already paid, please get lost"? :P Point me to it? I don't quite follow.

Important part of the thing you quoted: "Later this year" ;) Basically, no, F/A-18C won't come out this year. But it never was. It's way too big a project for that.
-
Well, if it's not - don't buy it. :) FC3 pre-orders already got WAY more than what was originally announced, without having to suffer through the resultant price hike. Now a set of products are announced that add some extras to that that were not on the feature list... and people feel cheated if they don't get it for free or if the pricetag is bigger than they feel the feature is worth? Well, then don't get it, you (apparently) already felt that the original feature set was worth it's money, so what is the problem? :)

Some factors to elucidate: Apache has a nose-mounted gun with a wide range of movement - this means a longer arm for the recoil to work on. Black shark has the weapon mounted close to the centre of gravity. Apache's 30mm is a relatively short barreled weapon. Black Shark has a long barrel. This gives additional accuracy. Basically, Kamov sacrificed range of movement on the cannon to get additional accuracy, compared to Apache, Cobra, Hind and Havoc. This is, incidentally, the same 30mm that is also used on many russian IFV's.

Welcome. :) If you have purchased a DVD copy of A-10C, this is the old standalone version. You can run it on it's own, no problem, but it will be old. (And for this reason, you'll not see quite as many people online, if multiplayer is your thing.) The solution is to download and install DCS World, and then download and install the A-10C module from our website. You can find them here: DCS World: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/dcs_world/ A-10C Module: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/modules/dcs_a10c_warthog/? The A-10C module requires activation, however the serial number from your DVD copy is valid, so there is no need to purchase again. Similarly, the DCS World host programme is Free-2-Play, so no need to purchase anything additional there either. (And indeed, you'll get the Su-25T aircraft as part of DCS World, as well. :) )

a couple of MIG-29s questions
EtherealN replied to fitness88's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
1) Yes. 2) Target mark high is far away, target dot low is close. There is no huge reason for this to indicate some direction you should be looking since this radar mode is for BVR - Beyond Visual Range. You won't see anything even when looking in the right direction, and either way it's your computers and radars that will do the weapon guidance :) (Well, aside from when transitioning to WVR combat, but you'd get the same effect through locking the target) -
Flaming Cliffs 3 Pre-Req Question
