  1. The late great Joe Bill Dryden describes it here from first-hand experience (page 10). As an old-school F-16 sim pilot my MPO switch is bound to a toggle switch on my WH throttle, 'cos I know I'll need it sometime.
  2. My F-16C module (<volume>:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\F-16C), completely stock, occupies 1.05GB on my SSD according to Explorer.
  3. I'm going for a -30, as iirc that was the first block introduced with the common engine bay (for either PW or GE motors) which is specifically mentioned in the video. The inlet also looks to be a "big mouth" and the tail feathers look GE, so that's my logic.
  4. The YT algorithm needs serious attention. Not only does it drop unrelated "ad breaks" into openly-sponsored content (I'm watching flight sim footage, wtf do I care about cat food???) but it also makes ridiculous assumptions based on viewing history. I've been watching a lot of historical air warfare documentaries during our latest lockdown so YT has now decided that I'm an ideal customer for Rafael's products. I'm sure they're awesome, but ffs... is a 56yo nerd in a city centre flat really the target market for SPICE/SPIKE/SPYDER? There again, SPYDER might have deterred the d*ckhead in the A400M from flying continuous low circuits over the Inner Moray Firth on Friday afternoon. You weren't squawking or broadcasting a callsign but you *had* to be from Brise. No offence, but why? Don't you have any LFAs in England?
  5. Make sure you've added Pakistan to the relevant coalition when setting up the mission (by default it's "neutral"), then you'll be able to select it as "country" for your F-16C and several PAK liveries will become available, including 11Sqn Arrows.
  6. Likewise. I need to see significant VR gains before I sacrifice my FSSB funds.... ;)
  7. Yup, gave me a nice 833KB .csv which, when imported in LibreOffice, confirmed that 96.5% was indeed the max gpu_power figure recorded during the test.
  8. i9900K and EVGA 2080Ti FTW3 Ultra (both @ stock settings). 2560x1440, 8x MSAA. GPU TDP peaked @ 96.5%. Test hit PWR and VOLT limits but TEMP remained below 65C. About to rerun with "Log GPU data" enabled in the hope of providing more useful empirical results..will update if successful.
  9. You have to update your VA profile with the new keywords imported into Vaicom. Page 36 of the Vaicom user manual has step-by-step instructions.
  10. MAC will function within DCS; this was confirmed by ED's Global Business Development Director in a recent QA session. Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRKL0yZHvwg, @1:53:05
  11. The AGM-88 is great, but the AN/ASQ-213 HTS is what makes the Viper special. Please ED, give us the entire mission package (as far as OPSEC allows) rather than simply a USAF F/A-18C. No offence to Hornet drivers intended, but the "Wild Weasel" nomenclature is there for a reason.
  12. What's your display resolution? 1080p, 1440p, 4k, or VR? I chose the 2080Ti as I was planning ahead for VR. Driving a 32" 1440p display in 2D it's overkill. Is your 9700K air-cooled? Maybe invest in a 360mm AIO (if possible) and push the overclock towards 5GHz? You'll see a noticeable improvement for much less outlay. ;) +1 Noticeably quieter/cooler under full load than the Zotac 2080Ti Amp! that it replaced (under warranty).
  13. My advice, fwiw, would be to downsize the HDD to 1TB and add a second 500GB SSD. If it's purely for DCS then install that on the M.2, put Windows on the SATA SSD, and use the spinning rust for everything else. It'll cost a bit more but the performance improvement will be worth it vs everything on a single larger volume.
  14. Add me to the posse. If I have to wear earplugs to sleep (a 2080Ti on full load is loud) then I'd rather my pain was accredited. ;)
  15. If you're tempted towards overclocking the CPU I'd advise either the dual-fan NH-D15 or, if clearance is an issue, a top-mounted 240mm AIO like the Corsair H100i Pro. Mine copes okay with the 9900K @5GHz even when folding@Home, keeping temps <85C. The ML fans aren't too loud either... the GPU fans going full-chat easily drown them out! I'd advocate a discrete SSD for DCS. I use a 500GB M.2 as my system volume (as this is a multi-purpose system) and a 500GB SATA for DCS. If you're building for DCS-only then perhaps the reverse would be of benefit. Don't omit the spinning rust. Platter drives are slow, but great for storage and they're cheap. Don't waste those SSD write cycles. ;) Most importantly, power output... what do you need? 750W is more than sufficient for your proposed build, but the efficiency rating (80+ Bronze/Silver/Gold etc) also plays a part. For a similar cost you may be able to spec a good 650W 80+ Gold PSU that will provide better power delivery and a longer warranty.
  16. The most recent T.O.GR1F16-CJ-1 that I (as a UK civive) have legit access to describes it as "UHF VHF IFF Transmit Switch (4-Way, Momentary Rocker)" The apparent inconsistency may in fact be real. Different manufactuerers/airframes/capabilities... would a USMC F/A18-C necessarily use the same "shorthand" as a USAF F-16C?
  17. Me too. Five days ago I also had a job. Do I now grudge (e.g.) the Viper sale? Not in the slightest... nobody had a crystal ball back in Oct '19. Six months down the line and life has drastically altered (for the worse) for millions worldwide. There are many far worse affected than me, unfortunately. As a society we have to come together. Whether that's simply individuals looking out for their vulnerable neighbours, local businesses providing free/discounted refreshments for over-worked health workers, or game developers offering reductions, every gesture helps. These are scary times for many people. Not for my elderly parents though. When I jokingly asked this evening if they had sufficient toilet paper I was firmly reminded that "we lived through wartime rationing, son. So long as there's a basin and a kettle we're good. Our only fear is the return of powdered egg!" Wherever you are, keep safe and well, but remember that without each other we're nothing, "Social distancing" doesn't mean "losing your humanity".
  18. Lockheed also deserve credit for promoting something designed as a fair-weather supersonic interceptor as an all-weather fighter bomber simply by adding a couple of external hardpoints and a "-G" to its moniker. ;) That said, the F-104 is an iconic airframe for us 50-somethings so I'd love to see it in DCS.
  19. My notes. from an much older F-16 sim but ratified by actual USAF/NATO pilots, state similar to a single centerline bag i.e. 7.0G.
  20. The OB 2.5.6 Steam update was rolled back due to problems, so the updated manual won't be available to Steam users yet. It's viewable here for those who want a heads-up on EEGS etc.
  21. I'd prefer they concentrate on perfecting the FM and avionics, as those (imho) are vital to an accurate F-16C simulation. Right now I desire function over form. ;)
