Have the Hornet devs moved back from the Viper?
TheGuardian replied to Arctander's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I believe a bridge can be built anywhere as long as both sides try to listen and understand the other (don't have to agree). You clearly have tried to do that and I have as well. That said, I hope we all come out on the other said happy with the products we have purchased and get the answers we want. Clear skies to ya bud. @Harker Fair enough, can't really argue that point of view at all. -
Have the Hornet devs moved back from the Viper?
TheGuardian replied to Arctander's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yea, no. Sorry nope. Do you have a copy of this contract you entered into with ED? I can't seem to find any posts by ED that say "The Hornet will come out of EA in one, two, three, four, fifty years from this date." Maybe it's time to start your own company to compete with ED, you seem to have an idea of what the business model should look like. Would you like ED to shutdown any and all aspects not related to the Hornet until the Hornet is complete? I mean work on NOTHING else besides the Hornet until it is finished? Not bug fixing, no new maps, no carrier, no nata? No of course you don't as that would be crazy. From what I have seen and read, ED isn't some huge company like Activision or Sony Computer Entertainment. They have to work with what they got, people get moved around, project dates pushed forward and backward. I get where you are coming from in regards to EA but I think you are being unreasonable with some of your expectations. Yes any EA module should have priority to get fixed, but if they don't release new modules from time to time, the bills don't get paid. When that happens we are all screwed. I wish you could see the big picture just a little bit. -
2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
TheGuardian replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
glad to see all the graphical aspects. Black Shark 3 will be a blast and the Super Carrier should be really fun to learn. Thanks ED. -
I believe in this case Kratos has the best response "Keep your expectations low BOY, and you will not be disappointed!!" (if you don't get this reference, we clearly can not be friends) Side note: I do not understand this tit for tat deal between the 16 and 18. I don't remember seeing promises from ED (I'm sure BN or 9L can correct me if I'm wrong here) as to when certain features would be finished. I have seen no reason so far to not trust ED (cause they didn't promise ANYTHING). That being said, I'm sure that when they have news to share, we'll have news read. Until then, might I suggest we hold our expectations close to heart?

I have used the default template to create my skins. Removing the old artwork and creating a base PSD file that I use for all my skins. As well as create new roughmets. It's not perfect, but it works till we have the full template from ED

You can send me a link to the pic and I can try to work one up for you. I have done several, Alabama, Virginia, Montana if you wanna take a peek.

Yea, turning down the setting or maybe adding a slower trim modifier would be great. Kinda like zoom slow.

Why is the Viper getting TWS before the Hornet?
TheGuardian replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Absolutely couldn't agree more. Stuff takes time, mean while I have a HUGE amount to learn about other air frames. -

TheGuardian replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
It sucks man, I know. I wish we could get things at the same time. Let's hope it goes smooth and the Hornet is rocking TWS ASAP, just as long as it works properly. -

How can we expect to set timelines for ED? A week or two, come on man be a little realistic here. What if it isn't that easy? What if it causes problems in the Viper? What if they push TWS to fast and it screws up the Hornet?????? Let's test it, make sure its right. How do you (I know I sure don't) know exactly what is needed to make it work and can so matter of factly put a time line to this? -

Totally get that and can't say anything about older projects as I simply wasn't around then. Wish I had been though. I guess I'm too new to have started losing trust in ED/3rd Party. -

Yea, I don't think that is correct. Steam requires an actual release date to do pre-orders but ED said that wasn't a hard date. More of rough guess. I've only been around for two releases, 14 and 16, but both seemed to be given a 2-3 month time frame when ED thinks it will release. The Steam release date issue was based on the fact ED was trying to extend the pre-order status on Steam, at least that is what I thought. I believe EA is done to do the following: *To test, improve, and allow consumer feedback and bug reporting *To bring systems online at a slower pace to lesson any issues new systems can cause with already released systems. *I'm guessing at this one but I would think these planes take 3-4 years to fully recreate in the sim. That is a long time between releases, and that is a super long time between making money on a base Sim/game that is free to EVERYONE. It's not about getting it fast, it's about making sure the quality becomes the primary goal. I don't remember reading that devs were moved around to make sure it hit Steam release date. Again, Steam won't let you do Pre-Order sales without a actual release date given. We were told on these forums that the Steam date was not a set in stone date multiple times. Again, why is it so hard to understand that some of these systems can/could work in parallel to one another. Just because the Viper gets something first doesn't mean that Hornet will suffer for it. That being said I agree with you that having to many planes in EA from ED/3rd Party is not a great idea. Sorry I honestly think most user don't fully understand the purpose of EA. Just my opinion. -

Look at it this way, If the Viper gets it first we have to be the lab rats for any bugs that pop up and have the opportunity to flesh out the kinks. This way the F-18 gets a more complete TWS at patch release then the Viper. It's a glass half full/half empty point of view but might make the pill slightly easier to swallow. I own both planes so I get what you're saying, but remember 16 drivers paid for the 16 too. Either way, I feel that both these planes can and will improve and grow together. Viper can help the Hornet just as much as the Hornet helps the Viper. Just my opinion though. -
:megalol: Was wondering how long that would take.

I mean the actual cold start lesson shows the boxes around the switches.

Throttle/Stick Recommendations?
TheGuardian replied to Wolf359's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yea it does suck to not be able to adjust the stick tension. I guess cause I fly with both on top of my desk I can rest my arm on the desk which helps me control without straining too much. The T16000 does have have it's cheap features for sure, but it has been an awesome launch pad for me. I did think about the X52 but the reviews kept me away from the newer models. -
Throttle/Stick Recommendations?
TheGuardian replied to Wolf359's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Along with lubrication there is a small tension screw directly center of the throttle. If you move the throttle to halfway you can adjust the tension a little. Stickiness is an issue but after the lube it should move a bit easier. -
Can't argue with that. But like you i add the bluefor and redfor livery just in case.

Throttle/Stick Recommendations?
TheGuardian replied to Wolf359's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use the T16000m, throttle and stick and I have no problems. I do plan on upgrade to the Warthog stick but that is just so I can have more buttons on the stick itself and not the base. I love the responsiveness of the T16000 stick as it uses the same sensor as the Warthog. No complaints here. The throttle can be weird for some since it slides back and forth instead of around a pivot point, but I didn't have any issues there. -
yea I am more of a whatever floats your boat kinda person. I would like to see ED or 3rd Party focus on actually liveries and let the community do the fictional stuff. That way if you don't want it, don't download it and you will never see it.

from reading different post, me thinks I should fire of the Vive and fly the Viper this evening......Love this jet either way

From what I can gather from an acutal Blk.50 manual. It says nothing about needing to wait any amount of time between opening the slipway and hooking up to the tanker. It mentions that it depressurizes the external tanks and that no fuel will flow from the tanks to the aircraft. The RDY light illuminates when the slipway is opened and the system is ready. I take the "system is ready" part to only mean the slipway is down and fueling can begin. Nothing about waiting. Learned something new today anyway.
-
Don't you just hate it when tanker pilots get all upitty and won't talk to you?:megalol: Serious note though, maybe 9L or Wags could give some insight into if the external tank pressurization even matters in our Viper. I don't have problems waiting a bit as it gives me time to work on formation flying with the tanker.
-
It seemed odd at first to me as well when I watched it, but I was having so much trouble with it in the beginning that I was willing to try just about anything to get Texaco to start giving me some damn fuel.
-
Got ya got ya. Yea I was talking more about flying over to one of the other tankers instead of spawning behind one.
