I have nothing to add really but it's very interesting to read as you guys discuss!! I would'nt be so sure the US could follow economically; Say in a US vs. China(+allies) scenario. It would'nt likely be a war where US soil is threatened I thinks and so public support for such a war might not be that high (probably), raising enough funds to keep up a war over seas with an economically strong opponent would be hard these days or in the near future for the US I believe.

My wingman did'nt make it in this mission either (also made the start-up manually). As I was passing that fight with the enemies on the hillside I managed to help the guys out, after a while the NVG's got all white. Turned them off and the area was illuminated (candle bomb, maybe that's what the guy was calling for?). So I fire away until it all calmed down.. Was very intense, was my first try in this mission, admittadly I had alot of luck.. :)

Hi Oakes! Out of curiosity: Are you using RC servos? Speaking as an RC-pilot there is a big difference in quality between different servos.. (Rekommenderar mft.se, har handlat där ett par gånger och de är bra att och göra med). For instruments like an altimeter, perhaps stepper motors would work? Or could one build an endless servo using a rotary instead of a potmeter perhaps?

Uuuuaaaah..! I have started building now..!
-Bazong- replied to Triggerhappy69's topic in Home Cockpits
"Friskt kopplat, hälften brunnet" :smilewink: Never fried anything to do with pitbuilding, but I did fry a discrete SC25 opamp when cloning an API microphone preamp. I tore my hair off because they are VERY expensive (Nowadays I have the same haircut as you trigger) :P -
REVIEW: Logitech G940 by EcoDragon
-Bazong- replied to theGozr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm quoting myself, what does that mean? :P But seriously, I was too quick to judge and just wanted to clear my consious(sp?) by saying that I very much appreciate the intention of this product and the comunication from Logitech_Mark. I very much hope the forcefeedbacks centerplay (I understand the axes have no centerplay and that the stick has very precise contact-less sensors (Hall effect sensors??)) can be adjusted to a minimum. Eagerly waiting for a thurough review of the HOTAS in use with DCS:BS. :) -
I usually just look around with the HMS, when I start firing I let go and designate in the target area to make the pipper stay in place. If the range to the target changes while firing (throwing the impact calculations off) I adjust with the hat or designate again..
-
It is useful for measuring distances and aiming the gun I thinks, as well as launching Vikhr's. Sometimes one can see a target (directly or indirectly by tracers/gunflashes etc..) but can't get a lock..

Targeting / Finding targets issues
-Bazong- replied to Yuri Janssen's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
When practicing, I sometimes pause and look around with the outside views to whats going on. I think it's better than using labels since labels destroy my immersion. Mapping out the battle area is critical I thinks, in the mind as well as in the Abris so as to have an idea of where it's safe to go (this process continues throughout the mission for me). If I (or a wingman) fly over "uncharted" territory, I use preemptive flaring and make sure I/him has overwatch if possible. -
REVIEW: Logitech G940 by EcoDragon
-Bazong- replied to theGozr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Very disapointing :( I had hoped this would be just the thing to replace my 6 year old msFFB2 and ms racing pedals. I really hope the "centerplay around the trim position issue" gets resolved (it's nowhere near that much on my msFFB2 I think), as for now I'll be looking for a fresh (or slightly used) msFFB2.. -
Very sorry to hear about your problems! I intend to buy the G940 (and use it with BS and win7RC), but certainly not until they get these problems sorted out.

"More Info will come later" seams clear enough to me :smilewink: I'm also very interested in whether/how well usb screens work with DCS, I'd love to have the Abris, Shkval and flight instruments displayed on two or three screens below the main view screen.. My understanding is that the Shkval cannot be viewed on a USB screen but the Abris can(?) Anyway, I'll wait for the PCIP and hope that these things become easier to set up then.. Regarding these MFD's, I personally find them quite pointless without screens.. But they're quite cheap, so I'd definetly consider buying and using them along with two usb screens..

Thx everyone for your input!! It's supposed to have some support for Mach3 software (for CNC mills), so even if it does'nt stay in the cockpit it'll still be useful to me (I hope).. Seams flexible though, I hope I won't have any trouble lighting things up via lua.. But in any case, keyboard or joystick emulation should be useful for the collective at the least.. Will be in the middle east for vacation for two weeks, after that I'll start playing around with this..

Force feedback chairs.. cushions etc..
-Bazong- replied to CE_Mikemonster's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
An FFB stick will give you stall warnings etc if the sim has implemented it, it's very nice in IL-2 for example - One can really feel push the AOA limit in turns.. In BS the FFB just sets the trim position as in the real chopper. AFAIK the buttkicker just reacts to sound, so you'll have to set a low-pass filter so that it kicks when the sim plays bassy sounds.. -
Calibrating Controller issues with CH products
-Bazong- replied to sobe's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Maybe try not using the CH software and instead calibrate them in windows? -
Hi all! Just ordered a Pokeys55 to play around with, making my collective come to life will be it's primary objective.. :) Thought it seemed nice!! Has anyone had any experience with it? Any suggestions or opinions? Thx

Awesome!! If the channels are synced to the set frequency in game, I've really hoping for something like this for years!! :D Would gladly help beta testing, but I currently have no internet connection where I fly :( Best of luck!!

 Offcourse, never thought of that.. probably because I have the same stick :P I also modified mine abit, a logitech gamepad (to get an analog hat and a bunch of buttons) and some epoxi went on it... :) Seams we're pretty much wondering about the same thing.. FWIW, I heard (I think Logitech_Mark said it on the simhq forums) the G940 stick uses the same motors as the G25 wheel (but different transmission). I understand that wheel is loved for it's high quality..

Hi! This has probably been mentioned, but here I go.. As I see it one of the most important parts to improve is behaviour of ground vehicles/targets, since they are what you're primarily fighting. *Vehicles trying to evade attacks by maneuvering, trying to hide or using smoke and such. *Better handling of infantry in the ME, as it is, it's almost impossible or rediculously time consuming to use moving infantry in a mission. Other things: *Scripting across missions, so that in a campaign I can set Flags in mission-1 that affects mission-2 etc... *Access to the Abris, NDB frequencies and satelite "density" in the ME gui - It's quite a ritual to do all these things as it is I thinks.. *More control options: It'd be nice if all controls (where applicable) had these options: "Gear up", "Gear down" and "Toggle Gear". For example, there is only a "Toggle Laser stby" available for the Laser standby switch, but for the rpm switch on the collective there are two controls available for "RPM nominal" and "RPM low" respectively. This does'nt make sense because both are two position toggle switches in the real cockpit.

Questions from a newbie in process of RTFMing.
-Bazong- replied to Itkovian's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Odd bug there with the training missions.. I only had an issue where FF would'nt work correctly if I took control in a training mission. Just wanted to add that which of the two trimmer options you choose does matter for the pedals/twistgrip even if you use an FF stick, unless you have FF pedals offcourse :) I'd also recommend the Flight Director, I almost allways use it in combat, even when doing hovering attacks.. but that's up to personal preference I suppose (and I don't think that's how they do it IRL). Happy flying!! -
Amen! Ever since someone said (I believe Wags did?) that it was'nt certain the Apache would come after the Hog I´ve been thinking they'll release a Flanker. :D It would be the logical choice: A helo, a modern A2G and a classic A2A.
-
I'm currently using the pedals for an MS racing wheel.. Eventhough they can both be pressed simultaniously it's alot better than twistgrip. (Now I'm contemplating turning the wheel into force feedback pedals :) )
-
The main thing I want to know is how stiff the motors can hold the stick at the trimmed position, if it beats my msFFB 2 in that regard I'll get it. As it is with the msffb2, I have to take my hand off the stick very carefully after setting the AP so as not to move it by accident (eventhough I "disengaged" it's optical dead man switch). Edit: @ above: I don't understand what you mean, what does speed have to do with it?? If the FFB can hold the stick at 2kph, it can hold the stick at 200kph just the same(?)

so now, is the i7 meeting expectations?
-Bazong- replied to Flyby's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I should point out that I have very acceptable framerates (never checked exactly what, but definetly most often over 30) at 1680x1050 with water normal and shadows active planar and 4x AA. If I turn up anything more than that it gets slow, but I'd guess my bottleneck is not the i7 but the old Nvidia 8600? I can easely clock the processor abit even with the stock cooler (planning on getting a graphics card and cooler upgrade later), fiddled around with it since it's very easy with the DFI board and little program that came with it. But since it did'nt make any difference in BS and got noisier I reverted back to unclocked... Will be installing win7 RC anytime soon, but since the game plays nice as it is I have'nt gotten around to it yet. -
Black Shark Nirvana with TouchBuddy
-Bazong- replied to DickDastardly's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Very nice profile there!! Makes me want a touch screen.. I have a question (tryed finding a definite answer but have'nt found it): Can I use a USB screen for touchbuddy so as to have the second DVI-port on the graphics card for something else?? Thx -
so now, is the i7 meeting expectations?
-Bazong- replied to Flyby's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I recently got an i7-920 and a DFI micro-ATX Mobo, have'nt upgraded the graphics card yet (an old Nvidia 8600).. But the upgrade to the i7 (unclocked) from an AMD X2 4400+ (same graphics card) got me a few FPS in BS under XP. Gaming was not the main reason for upgrading to the i7 though, hence the old graphics card...
