  1. My closest call was as close as it gets. Doing an Interception mission in the Hornet I burned too much gas. Got up to 40,000+ft on the way back to the boat until I could do a 10 degree dive at idle. I trapped on the first pass, looked down at the readout and saw 00010. The engine then flamed out before I was even done being pulled back by the wire.
  2. Ah, didn't know thermal was part of the kit. That would explain it.
  3. It's really not, the V Viper radar uses the much of the same SW as the F-35s radar.
  4. That video completely changed my Harrier experience.
  5. SA-19 absolutely lit me up at night, firing missile after missile that I was able to kinetically avoid on accident as I had no radar warning from the SA-19 truck. This means it was optically targeting me at night when I had my lights off.
  6. Another riveting story. "nine-hundred pounds" will never sound the same again
  7. Which had been explained many times is due to the higher drag to weight ratio.
  8. That was a great tutorial! I have been using the TOO on the UFC to ripple up to 10 JDAMS, but I didn't think to try and use to to pre designate the TPOD targets. This should apply equally well to APKWS. Designate all targets while at range, then once in close you don't need to fiddle with the TPOD to change targets, just WP INCR. Brilliant.
  9. I guess I was wrong then on the speed limit. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
  10. It has been acknowledged by HB that the current Phoenix had its G limits reduced to avoid snap-turns when going active that would cause it to lose a full Mach of speed at times. After guidance is fixed by ED then the G limit can be restored.
  11. IIRC anything under 0.8 should work, maybe even 0.85. It will not work for a full Mil power cruise.
  12. The FC3 planes are what they are for a reason. At least the A-10 has a high res, clickable cockpit, version available for sale with the A-10C. Eagle drivers are out of luck, and no the impending Strike Eagle isn't the same. It's much heavier and draggier.
  13. You basically need it to already be trimmed for level flight right now, then AP will hold.
  14. This is my understanding
  15. I guess I thought he was saying as the player he couldn't take off, I didn't pick up it was the wingman that wasn't taking off.
  16. Su-33 on a Nimitz class? AI doesn't follow physics I guess, but you need a launch bar to hook up to a steam catapult on the SC and AFAIK the Su-33 doesn't have one. That's why the Kuze has a ramp.
  17. There will never be a Harrier with an APG-79. AV-8B Harrier II+ aircraft got APG-65 radars from F/A-18s that were being upgraded to APG-73 radars. These allowed AIM-120 use, but I would not expect the C to make it. Every picture I see is a big wing model (likely B). As for the AIM-9X it so far has never been approved. Only current modernization plans call for AIM-120C and AIM-9X with JHMCS and L16. While these technologies are all in DCS, RAZBAM will not have access to documentation about how they are integrated into the Harrier and as such would not be able to make a proper simulator. Likewise Hellfire/Brimstone, never implemented so it won't happen. LJDAM can drop a tank, so can Maverick, a few APKWS might too. There are already tank busting options for the Harrier. As to the GAU 8, it should be ~3,600 rpm or 60rps which should empty the tray in about 5s. I think this is in line with what I see in game.
  18. Yes, you can override, bit the next TOO press will still try and go to 8, it will not reset to 3.
  19. I have.
  20. True, much like how a good F-14 pilot can be victorious in the underpowered A model.
  21. It only loses energy at high AoA. Keep it under 20 and you will have trouble with too much energy. Maxing out the AoA should be a brief event to either ruin an enemy shot or to take your own but most your flying should be between 20-25 units AoA
  22. 40K? I only see that recommended when I am "empty". AIM-9s, four empty ITERS, TPOD, GPOD, <3,000lb fuel remaining. which I guess other than the fuel is pretty similar to your load @Brainfreeze in terms of weight and drag..
  23. Mini Jammer is an expendable jammer.
  24. I've hit 40k on the RTB phase of my flights, but again the question becomes "is the juice worth the squeeze". Even after dropping my AG stores I can cruise back to the boat at 30-35k with only 60ppm fuel burn.
  25. Sorry, you are right (sort of) my speeds listed were purely on the topic of thrust/drag. There is a stores carriage limit on the CFTs used by Strike Eagles of 1.4M even for AAMs. However I follow that statement with this question, who in DCS is going to obey that? Unless RAZBAM implements something like stores ripping off due to flutter or the launch lugs getting damaged resulting in a hung store there will be nothing to stop DCS players from going beyond 1.4M.
