How do you "balance" other modules with the Tomcat?
Spurts replied to Jayhawk1971's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Wish I could do that. Love love love flying the turkey but that back seat is so fun. Don't have anyone to reliably handle to front seat -
I would say, yes. I do not have FC3 pack but do have the Su-27 and I have the J-11

Close, Span Loading is the leading factor in determining how much drag is produced in a turn, and poor span loading can be countered by high thrust-to-weight for sustained turns. Lift loading (wing loading corrected for max lift coefficient, and no you cannot assume lift coefficients to be equivalent across fighter jets) is going to determine turn radius and combines with G limit to determine peak transient turn rates. the devil is in the details though.

Top speed of a Tomcat with Jammed flaps is ~450kts and it's like riding a wheelbarrow down a mountainside. If you are in a Viper, and flying it properly, and some yahoo thinks he's going to get you by dropping his flaps turn the whole fight into a vertical yo-yo. He will be unable to climb or have a stable gun solution.

AHAHAHAHA! That is an absolute RIOT!

I would be curious to know the answer to this one, I have not encountered it myself.

Dying with Spurts Ep2, this time with less dying!

@Chipwich your avatar is Phabulous!

Hey Matt, I tend to lean forward a bit, center the view, and sit back. The default position for me (when I look down) is on the edge of the seat. I then use the "seat lower" command so I can see the gun cross. Any problem in particular you are having? Spurts

AV-8B: Yet another “Should I buy this module or not?” Thread
Spurts replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in AV-8B N/A
I trialed it during the first free-trial period in 2020. One VR STO and SRVL on the Tarawa and I bought it immediately. And don't dismiss the A2A ability. It isn't a BVR plane, but I got a Fox-2 shot off on a MiG-29 16 seconds after the merge. I also gunned a buddy down in his F-14B 5 times before running out of ammo. -
The FM already can sustain 9G at the right weights, altitudes, and speeds, but the pilot blacks out way to fast.

investigating Thrust to weight ratio: confused
Spurts replied to bkthunder's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
~15-20% losses from uninstalled bench thrust to installed static thrust are common. -
More silly AI antics, I did F-16 vs 2xAce MiG-29s and 2xAce Su-27s. I got one, lined up on a second, got hit by a single round, and the AI acted like I was dead. Even Tacview didn;t count me as dead yet. Made killing the remaining three rather unsatisfying.
-
I did a test of same types and different AI skills. higher skill gets higher "max AoA". So in 4th Gen, Ace will turn tighter and Veteran will have more energy.

Wait, it will? Oh man does that get me going!

So I know this is a polarizing subject, but I love the Jester speed callouts in BFM. My issue comes in once the bogey is splashed. I close Master Arm, de-select weapons, change HUD mode to Cruise, and he continues to call out my speed. I don't want to set him silent, but I do want to deactivate the BFM speed calls (getting calls of being "way too fast" because I am in cruise get aggravating). Is there a procedure I am missing or is this an opportunity to improve Jester?

Heatblur Iowa-class Temperature Check
Spurts replied to OnionSpider13's topic in Heatblur Simulations
So maybe a pack of "FC3" fidelity ships that have a few wwii and a few cold war ships with the option of FF modules. FC3 Iowa but FF Missouri for WWII and FF Wisconsin for Cold War. For those of us that do mostly flights against AI anyway it isn't really any different -
PSA: F-14 Performance/FM Development Status + Guided Discussion
Spurts replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Oh? I didn't realize they put in the TF30 specific tune already! I thought that was going to have to wait. As for the sustained G, I am not going to lose sleep over losing .15G at SL, a 3% or less error. I am never doing a STR turn anyway. I am always either climbing, diving, speeding up, or tightening down. -
for consistency you should use 8 AMRAAMs so that your wing missiles are exactly the same as the fuselage missiles, otherwise it introduces the error of Sidewinder drag vs AMRAAM drag. While that difference is IRL quite small for the purposes of a test we should eliminate it if we can. Another interesting data point, IRL the centerline tank has the same drag index as two wing tanks.

Heatblur Update - Supersize Me & Public Roadmap
Spurts replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
If HB won't do an F-14D then they won't do an RAH-66. -
WW2AP is not free, it is still $30

AFAIK in the current implementation missiles have a set drag no matter where they are stored. what missiles are you using for your test? AIM-120C in all cases?
