  1. Don't get me wrong...I was one of those people who requested this to be implemented. Back in the FC1/2 days, you could see these amazing new tank and ground targets with beautiful models and smoke canisters. and, *I would assume* in RL these smoke canisters play an important role in the battlefield...I'm glad ED took the time to implement this. The color, effect size, duration, thickness of smoke etc requires re-working. But since the logic is already implemented, the effect can be tuned at any time.
  2. They introduced this a while back. Shooting a tank or BMP makes them deploy smoke canisters to hide themselves. Unfortunately, the smoke effect doesn't serve the purpose. Inititally...the smoke was waay too big. Now it has been tuned and the smoke effect is smaller and more localized. Unfortunately, the smoke density, effect duration isn't perfect. More so, there is no wind effect on the smoke. These are still limitations with the current engine. Hopefully in the future, EDGE will receive some new graphical effects.
  3. IIRC..the black sea map was the one pictured in recent edge screenshots that hinted a spherical earth. So... hold on to that thought. I wonder if these are laid on a spherical earth... will eventually all maps be linked over the whole globe with empty spaces in between waiting to be filled.... aka more xplane, fsx style.
  4. Fair enough.... i'll hold off on the havok talk. ;) .... But I haven't heard anything about FX in edge. I hope they redo most but not the CBu animation. I love the amazing job ED did with it. They need to pump up the hdr effect for explosions and fire like in this movie by binary orchestra. The smoke/explosion needs to be grounded to game conditions.... angle of trajectory... the effect of wind on smoke/dust. A lot more efficient way to render smoke than noise textures. Time to go to volumetric smoke that can itself be lighted, cast shadows etc. Are they going to add ambient occlusion?? Hbao+ ?? Or ssao?
  5. The effect can be client side... enough games use this in multiplayer, with the idea that perhaps if havok damage has its own CPU thread reserved, there shouldn't be any reason why it can't work in concert with the in house aircraft physics.
  6. Thats a shame... :noexpression: :( imagine destroying the dam in the black sea map... blowing that up leading to flooding in the lowland areas. :p . More procedural damage to bridges.
  7. Totally...didnt mean to be rude...although in a re-read it did seem a bit douchey.. :p... but yes... it was more meant as an observation. Flanker AFM with fuselage aerodynamics etc may take more time to tweak and model..as it is so integral to the performance of the aircraft. And no question about it...ED do a terrific job. But yes... it does seem that Belsimtek division is better at churning out modules faster... Huey, Mi8, f-15. Yes...they do have assistance from ED...and ED have their own priority list...EDGE...and probably even the F-18. Either way, the speculation was if 1.3.0 is EDGE...it makes me hopeful that 1.2.9 will be the AFM. But back to topic... can any of the testers pls give us some info about frame rate? I know performance improvement was mentioned in wags post, but how is performance in explosions, shooting a rocket barrage into the ground etc? ALso.... for the new EDGE era of terrain...does ED have to make damage models for all ground objects individually? broken trees ? perhaps..naplam to burn forests clear path for ground equipment? do buildings break apart with fracture damage? Will ED ever consider to use middleware like havok?
  8. yup! just watched a documentary got some nice ref images...so wanted to post it here. I know ED has enough things to work on....but hey...the wing flex thing dropped on us from no where...so u never know what they consider is worth working on. ;) But I agree...some nice water, snow accumulation on ground.... rooster tails on runway from landing gear.... a better looking spray effect, smoke fx, raindrops, snow..are definitely higher on the priority list. :)
  9. Hi ED, I was watching an old favourite... the Su 27 flanker / Mig 29 documentaries from Wings of Russia. The presence of a ground crew: 1) A tow truck towing aircraft out of hangar (could be an option in mission editor (tow from hangar to parking area) 2) Re-arming... a skid with assorted missiles/bombs/rockets appears while the re-arming takes place 3) re-fueling...a refueling truck drives up to beside the aircraft. It spawns a minute away on taxi area...drives to aircraft... ideally a tube appears loading aircraft fuel and 2 min later..refuel done. PS: we don't need the guys standing on the truck. :p Just some little things to add immersion and something interesting to the 3min it takes to refuel and repair/rearm aircraft. cheers V
  10. hey..I love blur in games...so i am just excited to see it. Can't wait to play with it myself. :)
  11. Other games have successfully implemented blur in-game. I know with flight sims, there is an issue of visibility of targets on ground/in air, but I guess if they can enable blur in F2 view and allow us to use keystrokes to increase/decrease aperture, we can play around with depth of field as we want.
  12. I remember seeing these too...perhaps they got removed when ED changed the water shaders. Hopefully EDGE will improve the water rendering again...maybe use new shaders...more wind effects on water...waves and silent hunter style ship interactions with the water.
  13. Don't be surprised if this is not possible with the Black Sea map...also ai routine needs to be fixed so that they avoid forests and trees. But even more complicated to allow infantry to run through the forests.
  14. How do the explosions? Missile FX look in edge? It seems like there is better hdr. Do we now have the right level of bloom on these special FX?

  16. BTW...even after DCS: A-10C, the Su25 and Su25T is a blast to fly and land...especially land...they are just so differnt to the A-10 and so much fun.
  17. I would say save it for a different module. Buy the $25 module....its not really that much..buying ED's aircraft at full price definitely helps them out. I bought FC3 and also bought the separate modules just to support ED. Even though I don't care about the Mi8...I still bought that to support Belsimtek who are doing a fantastic job with great efficiency.
  18. I agree..its definitely not critical. I would rank vehicle/building damage/explosion fx are more important than this. ED are doing a good job with improving things. Can't wait to see how EDGE turns out.
  19. We haven't heard anything about them being free either. Remember the mess ED got into when they announced AFM at a cost for FC3 owners and then, to appease the masses who spent 40$ on FC3, they announced that AFM for F-15 and flanker is free. But at no time did they mention updates to mig 29 or Su33 in their features list for final version of FC3. But anyways...I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :)

  21. yup! I have had that happen with wingmen in earlier versions of DCS. I always thought it was perhaps my approach which kinda made him break off. But i never wait around to bother see him land and end the mission once I am parked.
  22. It makes me wonder about the Su33 and Mig 29 though. If ED plans on upgrading these, these were never announced as "free upgrades" to FC3 owners....which I totally understand... so will they release these two aircraft as separate modules? what happens to those who have fc3 and not the upgraded AFM modules? will they be listed as two separate entries? how will online multuplayer differentiate them?
  23. Yeah... wing flex is a good start... but we need ordinance vibration... wing vibrations on ground and in the air. Not to mention...i hope they really fox the rain and snow effects with edge. Give us puddles... snow accumulation, mud in fields... etc
  24. If you love fighters... F-15 got AFM. Its freaking amazing. Most realistic feeling of piloting a fighter jet.
  25. haha! true Cato. that is one of your best ones. I love the fact that it was one of your old "longer" movies. I remember u added the infantry part as a tease for me...as I kept bugging ED to add infantry for a while... nowadays u are going the more...short but sweet route. :p I plan to one day make a movie myself...a remake of an old lomac trailer. :p but one of those... someday... :p can never get around to doing it. :smilewink:
