New su27 6dof cockpit to come!
Witchking replied to falcon_120's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I remember pics posted by skylark of the Su27 model, but not a pit. The pit in current LO: FC actually is an upgrade from the original LOMAC Su27 pit. They changed a few things, but it still wasn't full 3d. -
Lol! It is great to see that Ed has decided to amend fc3's core features. As some of others here, I hope afm ground handling like that of the choppers would be an amazing addition. But the ultimate swan song for lock on,s final release would be the 33 update and 6dof cockpits for other birds as well. Just saying. :p ... 6dof cockpit pack for a-10a, mig29, su33, su25,25t at 29.99$ ?? :p lol

Considering that EA and activision charge 60$ + tax for every iteration of their fifa/COD franchises...Its more than fair for ED to charge what they are charging. Also considering the price FSX and Xplane addons charge, its more than a fair price for admission.

New su27 6dof cockpit to come!
Witchking replied to falcon_120's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
COnsidering that the cockpit is full 3d now and not composed of 2d panels, just like the A-10C and F-15 cockpit, the cockpit MFD display shouldn't be overlayed as a bitmap (which could be responsible for the bleed). Anyways...excited to see shots of the new cockpit. -
The HUD in old versions was fixed in the semi 3d cockpits/2d front panels in pre-DCS line. The new DCS standard HUD IMO is realistic and a reason why ED carried it over to the Lock on aircraft. I personally like it a lot. Although...I don't know why the HUD looks a bit more bright green than the mint green shown in many DCS videos.

I had that CPU in a Asus G73 before with a even better video card than yours. You won;t be able to run DCS at high settings. DCS is very CPU hungry. You may have to turn down settings such as visibility range to get it working well.

which laptop should I get to use Warthog??
Witchking replied to clarky_two's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I currently run a MSI GT60. Specs below. It is above ur budget but, DCS runs at ~24-30fps almost always maxed out with TSAA off, 256 res mfd displays and 4x msaa. Personally, I would recommend the ivy bridge line of I7 CPU as your top priority. Most vid cards nowadays can run DCS alright. But its the CPU that matters...the faster the better....anything less than 3ghz and you can't max it out. -

I guess practice also trains our brain to pick out aberrations and moving objects against the terrain.in dcs... I have a big issue with taking out choppers with guns as half the battle is picking them out in their camo against the terrain is hard until they are 1-2nm. -
Payware Models for DCSW (ONLY External 3D Models ! )
Witchking replied to HungaroJET's topic in DCS Modding
I think the market is still Wide open for 3d cockpits for fc3 aircraft. Rather than pay for a single model (unplayable), I would happily pay even 20$ for a new 6dof fc3 cockpit pack. -

TM Warthog on Ebay for ~$360.
Witchking replied to Bushaman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
yeah...apparently in canada Tigerdirect had a sale at 399$ or 350$ as well... I missed out on that one....but i am still happy with the deal I got. I did a price match and got the whole thing at 400$ taxes incl which was pretty sweet. Either way...personal opinion...unless it is sold by someone locally and u can personally see it and test it, avoid buying 400$ complicated joystick with multiple possible components that could fail/be offset/mechanical issues on ebay. Thats just my 2 cents. -

Well...I did plan for a monitor last year....got the sony PS3 3d tv (22") and that died...so I used the money of its return (Best buy gift card) to buy the TM warthog. I am going to wait and see for this upcoming boxing day sales when TV's and monitors go on huge sales to pick one up. I don't have a TV either (once again...grad student who has no idea where he will end up next year)...so I might get a 30-35" one...a nice medium sized TV. -

I would be careful about ebay. You never know about the operation of the buttons/stick etc. Personally, I bought my warthog at 400$ before taxes. At 360$, you might as well look out for a deal and buy it brand new with the 2yr support from thrustmaster. PS: I upgraded from a x-45 too....a night and day difference. -

I use a 15" because my rig is a laptop. I used to have a 17" asus G73, but this was an upgrade and I definitely need an external, but I am awaiting some good sales on boxing day to pick one up. Also since I am a student, I was going to wait a bit till I figure out where I will be in the nxt year+ and then get a nice 40" TV or something. -

I am glad to see that I am not alone in facing this issue. But I want to learn and avoid using any kind of labels. Especially as u see in some of the videos (Ralfi's)...people are so adept at finding targets blind. Also, the FC aircraft lack any sort of CDU to find targets and without assigned targets, it just makes it all the more harder. I have been getting into DCS more and more as finally my setup can run DCS smoothly so I have no excuse to not play more. (apart from workplace stuff that is). So I want to do it properly and not just admire the little things in the game...but also enjoy the actual mission/execution. -
It means I live both in Hamilton and mississauga. I primarily live in Hamilton in my own apt, but my parents live down in mississauga and I am there during weekends/holidays.

I am currently using a 15" monitor with 4x msaa and its very very hard to spot targets. Its way easier to spot moving targets/targets on the road. But for instance, in the Su25 quick start mission...if you hit the targets at the wrong time while they are in the town, they disperse in the town and it makes it terribly hard to spot them against the textures of the map. The biggest shock was when I joined a MP match for the first time with DCS World on the weekend, I found it disorienting to be unable to see hidden enemy units on the map + unable to toggle labels. I attacked this power plant that I found out was actually the wrong one. -
Hi guys, Its embarassing to admit, but I have been playing ed sims since the flanker days and I hate to admit that only now am I learning to play without labels on. It's so hard to spot targets. I think I am ok in the f-15 with bvr when I can scan and pick up air targets...but especially with the ground pounders, I Ab e tremendous difficulty pickin up choppers against the terrain. I am getting better with ground target spotting. In the a-10c, using the tgp, waypoint info, and mission briefing, it is relatively manageable. But in the fc3 jets especially I need to still orient myself with f10 view. But against flying targets with ground clutter in the background, I am useless and keep myself doing shift+f10 every now and then. Any tutorials on how to spot targets? Thanks, V

Support the Russian AF by purchasing the documentary if you like it. I posted the links to the wings of Russia website in the documentary section of the forum.

I agree. Win8 64bit here and it works flawlessly with everything. The start screen apps aren't that great and it feels tacked on as I still spend most of my time on the desktop. But, even then, the relative quickness if win 8 makes it worthwhile to upgrade. You will not regret how snappy the os feels.

I think it has to do with something about limited number of objects in the map in the current engine. I don't know if this has since changed.

I recall this was somewhat mentioned a while back..but upon belly landing, there is no sparks anymore.
