Being able to pass through the basket is key to part of my recent successful AAR ventures. I'm not a pilot in real life, but I'm not 100% certain that there is a collision model in the real ones.

VR vs a very large monitor with TrackIR
unlikely_spider replied to Sparrow_1976's topic in Virtual Reality
Oh, cool, good info. Maybe not great for things like switching the oxygen on in the Tomcat (I'm not an owl), I see this being a quicker way to do things like Master Arm or switching the TID mode that are more upfront. Quicker than reaching for the mouse each time? -
VR vs a very large monitor with TrackIR

Oh, crap, you can do that? Edit - wait, then how do you get the cursor to appear? For me I use the mouse and it only appears when I move the mouse -
To Roll or Rudder... for Air to Air Refueling
unlikely_spider replied to Flyer0001's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Isn't that backwards? I thought increasing curves made your relative movements smaller when at the center. With a curve applied, it should be easier to make smaller movements near the center of the controls, at the expense of more exaggerated movements at the extremes? -
And here I thought I was making good progress in performing AAR for the first time, then you want to jump in and just make it harder again

Perfect, thanks so much!! Looking forward to getting engrossed in this campaign. -

Ok, thanks. I can tell so far that I'm going to like this campaign. -

Is it possible to read the briefing text somewhere before starting each mission? I'm a VR player and would like to read the materials before strapping in. I see the kneeboard maps (which are great, btw) but can't find the text that details the objectives and other items of interest. -
** DCS: F-14 Manual Early Access Release!! **
unlikely_spider replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I just did the air-to-ground guns training, and the narrator stated that the diamond pipper used radar ranging and would remove the diamond when in guns range. However that never happened. I ended up using used the fixed pipper, which was accurate enough at close range. Is there a step that I missed? I was in AG HUD mode. Edit - seems like the RIO needs to switch the ATTK MODE setting. I don't think this is mentioned in the training mission. -
Installed the Supercarrier module, now what?
unlikely_spider replied to rpehlm's topic in New User Briefing Room
Go to the Instant Action or Missions menu on the right, then select the appropriate aircraft first. If they have missions that take place on the SC, that's where they will be. -
Thanks. Are there good video series tutorials that are most recommended? The Reapers one seems the most extensive from quick search on YouTube. I'm going through the Chuck's guide as well. There are only a few built in training missions it seems. I'm not yet to the armaments trainings so I'm not sure how much radar instruction is included in them. I am 3 out of 3 in the Case 1 carrier landing training. I'm pleased that I'm able to land on a carrier - I was afraid that would be an obstacle (night landings are another thing I've heard). I have a ton of hours in sims, so I'm a competent pilot, just not yet in BVR combat or carrier ops. Or AAR. Though I'm in VR these days and I've read that helps.

** DCS: F-14 Manual Early Access Release!! **
unlikely_spider replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I see. I have to see how this relates to dogfighting, but I'm not there in my training quite yet. There is a more efficient wing position than fully back in high AoA maneuvers? If so, is this all taken care of when the wings are in Auto? -

unlikely_spider replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thanks. Drag is higher with the wings back? I would think the opposite. How does that work? -

unlikely_spider replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I have read in the landing procedures for both shore and carrier to bring the wing sweep back to 68 during initial approach, before selecting Auto after the break. Why is this? It seems counter intuitive to bring the wings back when you're trying to slow down. -
For the Big Show fans out there
unlikely_spider replied to Reflected's topic in Spitfire LF Mk.IX The Big Show Campaign
Oh, yay! I like where this is headed. -
I've downloaded the F-14 during the free trial and the quality of the cockpit and the fun flight dynamics are helping to lead me towards a purchase. I'm traditionally a warbirds virtual pilot, so I'd have to study a lot in order to become proficient in this thing if I were to purchase it. I have two questions: In order to become proficient enough to complete some campaigns (I'm single-player) - do you have to learn the full capabilities of both pilot and the RIO? Or can I learn the pilot role and instruments and leave the rest up to Jester? (Do I have to learn to use the radar, comms, etc) After completing the trainings and reading the manual, what is a good first campaign? Does the Zone 5 have a good curve for beginners, or is one of the built-in ones better? (Also, if there are there campaigns coming out for any other maps that would be a plus - I would like to spend time on something other than Caucasus).

It was mission 2. I haven't retried since the last patch though. -

unlikely_spider replied to dggoofy's topic in F-86F Hunters over the Yalu Campaign
Is that AA better now? When I initially tried this campaign (before the latest OB patch) all of my wingmen got shot down quickly and were never able to help me. Not a knock on you, Reflected. Your campaigns are great. -
Reverb G2 DCS crash and WMR error 4-1

Yes, I also get double items with reprojection disabled in SteamVR, which is reduced with it on. Counter intuitive. -
reported Las Vegas Blvd WRONG building names
unlikely_spider replied to lcabc888's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
What are you talking about? I distinctly remember staying at the OMG Hotel & Casino when I was in Las Vegas. It was suspiciously affordable, now that you mention it.- 13 replies

Ok, thanks. Is there somewhere else that would be enforcing that 45fps other than SteamVR? I have max frame rate in nVidia CP at 98 for my gSync monitors refresh rate, so it shouldn't be that. And to reduce GPU frame times, that is mostly resolution? I am at like 75% in SteamVR. Edit - and my GPU memory states 9.8 out of 10gb. Is that all textures? Terrain textures at low in DCS looks bad so I have them at High, but main textures set to Medium.
-
Ok, so I got fpsVR and am trying to interpret the results. What does it mean if my GPU shows constant orange graph while my CPU is all green? My frametimes are good (I think) - about 13ms for GPU and 9 for CPU. I seem locked at 45 fps in my G2 even though I've disabled motion smoothing in SteamVR and it is always 45 regardless of what I do it seems, even in Caucausus. But it shows like 3 or 4% reprojection rate which I think is ok. This is on a 3080 along with Ryzen 5600x and 32gb ram.

I'm pretty sure I did see something in the patch notes about that. Edit: Bf 109 K-4 Jagdflieger, F-86F Hunters over the Yalu, DCS: Fw 190 A-8 Horrido!, P-51D: The Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney, Spitfire IX The Big Show by Reflected Simulations: More realistic flak and AAA. AI behavior tunings. Mission progression fixes.

Go to the home page, then e-shop, then campaigns. I was never sure why they have separate tabs for Products and E-shop.
