Weird - not for me. Do you have any mods? (also I'm on the OB)
-
Seems quite useful to me... Assuming that the target is directly below you. And within 5000 feet.

Save feature for SP missions is essential
unlikely_spider replied to Basilone's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I agree more campaigns should have that option. However Baltic Dragon already said that the upcoming F-18 campaign will have it. -
Well, now that was easy. (Had to download 25 GB of data, but it launched the OB afterwards with all of my settings intact). Also, I had to delete the Civil Aircraft Mod. What a great utility though. I got tired of waiting for all of the campaign/training bugs to be fixed on stable, so I'll see how the OB works. So far it seems great. I'm not using VR at the moment though, but TrackIR seems smooth, and a quick Instant Action test flight on Persian Gulf with the Mirage runs smooth at my capped 98 FPS.

If I do this, will my keybindings be reset?

For what it's worth, I'm on stable and I just used the NTTR Cold Startup from the link in the first post, and it is accurate regarding the radios, unlike the one that currently ships with stable.

The free Grenzland and Larkin Aviation Huey campaigns are also very well done, better for beginners (Grenzland first), and have lighter transit times. I did those before Argo, and it was worth it in that order.

Are you able to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up the Task Manager? Usually if Alt-Enter doesn't work, I do that, which will let me see the Windows task bar and then click on another application.

[INCORRECT]ED Charging you to Keep your A-10C
unlikely_spider replied to Thump's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
No, I think you misunderstand. Look at the part of my post that you cut out of your reply. I said that any software that I can conceivably think of, all the way from complete operating systems down to a small plug-in to an existing product, I've purchased while having the understanding that it will not be supported by the developer indefinitely. And I think that ED's continuing support to this day for a decade-old module is actually quite exceptional when comparing across the software world at any level. And yet people still post here complaining about it. -

They have already told you they are not "killing it". -

Every piece of software that I've bought, that I can think of, is supported for a fixed length of time. Software vendors charge for new versions. You can't reasonably expect every company to continue to update and support every version that has existed - that would be a continuously-increasing cost burden on the developer. Tell me similar situations where a module like this was actively supported over a decade after release. You didn't buy a piece of physical property. You bought the right to use a software license at the developer's discretions. Edit - heck, one main software that I use at my company, that my company pays hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for, is only supported for 18 months after each release. So I think this is a pretty good deal, considering. -

It does if they have to continue to bug test it after every DCS patch to ensure that it is compatible with all the changes. If a patch broke the old A-10, then you would complain that it's broken, then they would have to continue to actively support a decade-old module in addition to the new one. -

ED gave existing owners of the A-10c, after 8 or 9 years, a free overhaul update, in addition to the many updates over the past decade that module has seen. I don't think that compares negatively to a sports franchise that requires a $60 outlay each year to continue playing online. How many companies actively improve software modules for free a decade after release? -

Isn't the original almost a decade old? I don't think that's unreasonable to charge a little for updates at that point. People want continuous and constant improvement. Users can't have it both ways. -
I agree that having a central place that collects the status of WIP campaigns would be great, as that would influence my buying decisions. Since they're made by so many different parties though I agree that keeping it updated may be problematic. I love how Baltic Dragon lists all the campaigns he's working on or has completed on his website, for example.

Best Campaign for F/A-18?
unlikely_spider replied to CommandT's topic in User Created Missions General
It will likely be Baltic Dragon's which should be out relatively soon. https://www.baltic-dragon.net/copy-of-f-a-18c-hornet -

I also have VR, and love Half Life Alyx, for example, but only fly with TrackIR and my awesome ultrawide monitor. Despite all the people saying you won't go back, I did. Can you try it at a friend's house or something? I just think it's too much trouble. Games like Half Life significantly change how they are played in VR, but for flight sims, while cool-looking right when starting, the effect wore off on me. After which everything was just harder - spotting, reading my gauges, checking six, using the keyboard, the setup, maintaining performance, the weight of the headset, the sweat, the nausea, etc Basically I just jump back in occasionally just to see what it's like to be in the cockpit of a new plane I'm learning, but after the initial look, just go back to TrackIR for normal playing. That's why I suggested trying it if at all possible. Despite what some people say, it's not a guaranteed slam dunk.

Normandy Map Worth it for Modern Fighters
unlikely_spider replied to panton41's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
It is pretty small compared to the other maps, and I think you'd have to be a STOL virtuoso to make use of any of the airfields. The France portion would be fine for helos though. The rest is just water and the England side isn't that interesting. -
Raven One: upcoming DLC campaign for F/A-18 Hornet
unlikely_spider replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Hello Baltic Dragon. A question about this campaign - I'm currently learning the A-10 and am enjoying your TEW 3.0 campaign. Though I've been simming for a decade, the A-10c is by far the most modern military craft I've ever learned in depth. I don't really have much interest in seeking out and destroying air-to-air targets that I can't even see, which is why I'm typically found in warbirds or cold-war era craft where things get up close and personal. Is there much in this campaign for someone like me? I'm asking because I'd have to buy the Hornet and carrier, which are on sale right now. Really the main reason I'm even interested is because you're the one making it. The campaigns and trainings I've seen that you've done are among the best one can hope for in a sim, and the desire to experience the level of immersion in campaigns such as the Enemy Within were enough for me to try to learn something that I've never done before and learn the systems of the A-10. -
I've wondered - do the third party creators lose money when I use miles? Since you don't get miles on items on which they are used, it makes more sense financially to use $9 of miles on a $10 campaign than a $30 plane if I'm buying them both at the same time. But I hate to think that I'm not supporting the campaign creator when I do that.

Thanks. Do you need to enter elevation in the CDU as well?

Are the GBU-38s supposed to be able to take out Grouse and Grask targets through the clouds without you going down through them, or are the coordinates not accurate enough? I just tried with one, after putting the coordinates as a waypoint, and setting that wayoint as the target, but it missed, so I went down through the clouds and they shot me down.
