Maybe Mizzy is a time traveler. Mizzy, do you have any stock tips?

How important is a pair of rudder pedals
unlikely_spider replied to foxonefoxtwo's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
I don't remember if there is a set trim button for pedals in the helo's, like you can do for the cyclic? If so, I'd make very heavy use of that if I was using twist instead of pedals. -
"I think ED have tweaked the AI. It no longer does mindless vertical circles, but tries a larger variety of "moves"" Oh, man. That would be great if they did. I'll start the new P-47 campaign soon so I'll find out.

2.7.0.4625 Open Beta crash at second mission load
unlikely_spider replied to XPACT's topic in Game Crash
Yes, you have to take the input files from Config/Input from the backup that you made, then copy to the new folders that DCS just made. That will bring your control assignments back. I just did this after a repair and it seemed to work for me. -
2.7.0.4625 Open Beta crash at second mission load
unlikely_spider replied to XPACT's topic in Game Crash
What about replacing key bindings and other settings after it's done? -
When I got the first one (3080 FE through Best Buy), my wife said "I'll believe it when I see it in your hands"
-
I got a 3080 and a 3060ti through Best Buy - I check their app often for stock. I also got another 3080 through EVGA's queue because I hit Notify early on. The last one is not really an option anymore. People also have success waiting in line early mornings at Micro Center.

MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7
unlikely_spider replied to flankerjun's topic in Game Performance Bugs
And what if 67. (or less) is what we were getting before? -
i never do that - what's the latest guidance on deleting shaders?

Did you launch IL-2 Sturmovik by mistake?

36MBps, times 8... so I'm actually getting more than the 200Mbps speeds that I pay Verizon for. So that's great for me
-
My connection speed is being maxed out, ED version via DCS Updater. 36MBps download. Edit - East Coast, USA

Good point. I usually like to give them an 8 to 10 second grace period to see if there are any major bugs first.

DCS Open Beta 2.7 Patch Notes New clouds Fixed misspelling of manufacturer name of seat belt on texture underneath of belt buckle in M-2000c cockpit End

It's starting tomorrow, but it's a phased rollout in alphabetical order based on the second letter of your forum username.

Yes, your radios can set to different sets of frequencies (the RIO has access to a greater range). Either use the Jester wheel or jump in the back and set it yourself. Edit - I haven't flown the campaign yet but the frequencies should be stated in the documentation. Jester can have different presets for the same channel than the pilot, but that's up to the mission designer)

Possible to fly the Tomcat as pilot without switching cockpits?
unlikely_spider replied to Cornflex's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It's possible, at least depending on the context. I recently finished the Earnest Will campaign without having to. I did for convenience to switch some items that you can also use the menu for, like waypoints, but I'm not versed enough in the radar to do a better job than Jester does. Not sure about how he'd do in a multiplayer environment. That's not my forte. -
Is the distinction still appropriate for jets with missiles? Genuinely curious - I have often heard warbirds talked about in such terms, since energy fighters can theoretically use height and speed to their advantage, since it's possible to keep themselves out of gun range of an opponent who has less of either of those two. But when your opponent has guided medium range missiles - does that dogma apply? Another example is the inversion of the thought that altitude is safety, which applied to warbirds, but with the advent of radar-guided missiles makes you much easier to spot and lock.

I think they are solid objects for the time being and your plane will be destroyed if you contact a cloud. Clouds that you can fly through are planned for v3.0, due in Q4 2022.

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
unlikely_spider replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Does anyone that uses this with the F-14 have flaps vibration when deploying flaps for landing/takeoff, but avoid having the constant flaps vibration when the trailing edge flaps automatically go in/out during low speed maneuvers? I had to disable flaps because it was just too much in those situations. But I'd like them when I manually deploy flaps. (I have folding wings effect off for the same reason so it's not that) Edit - also I have landing gear enabled, but don't feel anything deploying or retracting the gear in the F-14b. -
Seperate VR and non-VR Desktop Icons?
unlikely_spider replied to ESzczesniak's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It is very handy. I use that most often now, instead of the normal DCS executable. You can create multiple profiles with their own graphics options, and just select which one to launch in a drop down list. -
Seperate VR and non-VR Desktop Icons?
unlikely_spider replied to ESzczesniak's topic in DCS Core Wish List
SkateZilla's DCS Updater GUI Utility does the trick when it comes to separate settings launching DCS without having to restart. You can make a keyboard shortcut for that, but not two for each profile I think. -
[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
unlikely_spider replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't think that DCS is pushing to both. DCS is outputting normal sound, then is outputting events to the simshaker software, which is pushing to the second sound card. -
Is the Tomcat capable of a hammerhead turn/ rudder reversal
unlikely_spider replied to Snappy's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This is the difference between props and jets. I'm not sure how well prop wash is modeled in any of the sims, but at low speeds (and especially if you start falling backwards at the top of a hammerhead) the rudder can act in the opposite direction than you expect. Especially with jets where you don't have the prop pushing air to your control surfaces. This is an interesting thing to test though next time I'm in DCS. Not sure I've ever attempted a hammerhead in the F-14 - I think if I ever found myself in the situation where I needed to do that in the Tomcat, then I've made some big mistakes leading up to that point. -
SP Campaign: Operation Earnest Will
unlikely_spider replied to SpikeGondorff's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
So I finished the campaign. I have to say that I liked this one very much all the way through. It certainly deserves paid campaign status - I didn't mind the lack of voiceovers and the little *ch* radio sound when there was text to read was helpful in case I was looking down. I thought the writing was very good. For the last couple of missions: Looking forward to more content! For anyone on the fence about this campaign, and you have the requisite modules, I very highly recommend it. I was thinking about the ending for days afterwards.
