reported The "Normandy 1944" Billboards are getting out of hand
unlikely_spider replied to Aarnoman's topic in Wish List
I can't imagine how much money ED is paying for all of this billboard space -
[v2.7]AI response on clouds
unlikely_spider replied to skywalker22's topic in Weather System Bugs & Problems
AI is not yet affected by the clouds. -
To be fair, that throttle does not actually exist yet. For someone wanting a throttle now or in the near future, I think it's pretty much the Virpil, Winwing, or finding a Warthog.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
unlikely_spider replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I've never used this mod - are there some people who are still seeing improvements in 2.7? The fps increase touted in the first post (a couple of years ago) are quite attractive. -
Does that work for stand-alone DCS?
-
Man, and I even feel a little bad if I have a hard-ish landing in DCS. Those guys really don't flare at all. I know you're not supposed to in the Tomcat, but damn, those gear must be quite robust.
-
Oh, man. I didn't know about that. Sweet! (I buy all of Reflected's campaigns even if I'm not flying that particular plane at the time) Looking forward to what these look like in 2.7. Hopefully I'll have some time soon.

I've read first hand accounts from pilots who said that the adage "throttle for attitude, stick for speed" does not apply so neatly to the F-14, and they had to use stick back/forward along with the throttle during approach anyway. So I certainly use both. Also since you mention the turn, remember to increase throttle during the turn so that you don't lose too much airspeed.

Is the F-16C the worst dogfighter of its era in DCS right now?
unlikely_spider replied to Youda's topic in Chit-Chat
To be fair, dogfighting is a thing of the past. It's not the primary reason why countries purchase planes. -
Does SSD help with performance?
unlikely_spider replied to Delareon's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you have a lot of RAM, (maybe someone else can specify whether it's loaded mostly to system RAM or VRAM), then you can afford to increase the Preload Radius further, which will decrease the chance it needs to read from disk. But whether or not it ever will likely depends on where you end up flying. -
Does SSD help with performance?
unlikely_spider replied to Delareon's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My understanding is that the Preload Radius will determine how much of the actual environment DCS will load to RAM before starting the mission. So the lower it is set, the more often it will have to read from disk. That said, I'm not sure I'd put something like DCS on a spinning hard drive if I could avoid it at all. Though I haven't tested the difference personally. SSDs are quite affordable these days, compared to the cost of most other components. -
3090 available but...
unlikely_spider replied to Lange_666's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I mean... I'm right along with you in hoping. But it's not that much (at the moment) according to the indexes that I'm looking at. And anyway, down some 10-20% on something that is ten times its value since last summer is not exactly a sea change. -

correct as-is Can't turn auto rudder off
unlikely_spider replied to cuervo111's topic in Bugs and Problems
Do you have landing assistance on? -
If I want to keep my control assignments but reset the display settings, which file are those stored in? Edit - I guess C:\Users\your_mom\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Options.lua
-
Have you unscrewed the headphones and put them back on? I did that to each and they are better than they were, when I had crackling or sound cutoff issues. They use two little spring pins which seem to be prone to losing contact with the metal indents for some reason.

MASSIVE fps drop after update to 2.7
unlikely_spider replied to flankerjun's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I need my shadows One time flying in the Tomcat, I wanted to tune to a frequency but couldn't see which radio channel the radio screen was displaying because the sunshine was too bright on the panel. So I rolled the plane so that a shadow was cast across the panel and could read the display. Way immersive in VR -
How important is a pair of rudder pedals
unlikely_spider replied to foxonefoxtwo's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
If you force trim, sure. -
Yes, the Channel map and Syria. Stuttery when I look down at them.
-
Yeah, cities are a killer for me too. Mostly smooth everywhere else. And I have a 3080.
-
I believe it's here. I wonder if this gets changed during SteamVR updates? C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MixedRealityVRDriver\resources\settings\default.vrsettings
-
I believe that's from Operation Fuller's, where they dropped English beer over German lines in an attempt to reduce morale among the Wehrmacht.
-
Most of the stutters I experience are when I have a dense city in my FoV. Then it clears up when I'm past the city. Which setting(s) have the greatest effect on city rendering?

For the Big Show fans out there
unlikely_spider replied to Reflected's topic in Spitfire LF Mk.IX The Big Show Campaign
So how do I fly the Channel Map missions as part of the campaign? Do I rename "The Big Show - 01_Channel.miz" to "The Big Show - 01.miz"?
