  1. I understand, thank you. I've flown real planes that have an altitude hold function that don't have any INS at all, but I'm sure the safeguards are not as fully-featured as jet fighters, and also I don't pretend to know the mechanics of how the autopilot works.
  2. Is barometric altitude really determined by the INS and not by the pitot tube?
  3. Ok, so I applied this 3M stuff to the bottom of a little plywood frame that I created to give the pedals clearance from the wall. It seems to help hold the pedals still at least for now. We'll see how that holds up in the future. The white box is something I bought to hold the power strip and cords from all the PC and peripherals to keep the place looking neater, and also weighs down the plywood frame.
  4. I see, makes sense. The difficulty is the nice floors and baseboards do not lend themselves well to any modifications. I really wish homebuilders would consider flight sim peripherals during design and construction!
  5. I just ordered a roll of 3M adhesive non-slip pads that I plan on cutting and applying to the bottom of my pedals. Will let you know how they work. I've got Crosswind pedals on a wooden floor.
  6. We don't have the plane set for it. We don't even have Stukas!
  7. Everybody knows that the chance of rainbows is a critical part of any Terminal Aerodrome Forecast.
  8. Well hopefully your mouse refresh rate is much higher than your monitor refresh rate. Here's an article that explains the relationship between the two and how stutter can be introduced by input devices: https://blurbusters.com/faq/mouse-guide/
  9. It's just a text file with a .cmd extension. The contents of the text file should read (with your specific path indicated - mine happens to be G) "G:\DCS World\bin-mt\DCS.exe" --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR
  10. I figured the cloud placement in the various missions was bound to luck as well. Unless the tech changes, I would say to leave it as-is too! I had some missions where the clouds provided a minor inconvenience, but I just noted which cardinal direction gave me best visibility to the specific targets and tried to modify my strategy thusly. The weather conditions are a big part of the briefings as well, and are a fundamental component of aviation and military planning. So I think it added just the right amount of difficulty and required on-the-spot adjustments to strategy. Plus the clouds look nice now in DCS.
  11. Do you see a couple of guys standing in the area? I bombed that building and was able to proceed. I think I dropped both GBUs on it. I think I knew I was looking at the right one because I could see a couple of soldiers on it.
  12. Are you looking for single-player content, or something to fly online? As other posters mentioned, the Mirage 2000 has good training missions and a campaign-and-a-half that were created by Baltic Dragon, and anything by him is quality stuff. The Mirage will feel more similar to the F-16 than the trainers, since they are both fly-by-wire aircraft and the L-39 and F-5 are more stick-and-rudder planes, with the F-5 being more forgiving (I think). Hence my recommendation for the Kursant campaign which will teach you basic airmanship like pattern work, navigation, and fully manual weapons deployment. It's a tough campaign, as the instructor makes you adhere to a certain tolerance in regards to things like airspeed, altitude, flight path, etc... but it will make you a better pilot. If you're looking for an airframe to become familiar with for online flying, then perhaps you need to determine the role you want to play. But I'm just single-player so others will have to help with that if it's the case.
  13. What is it you are trying to learn? The L-39 has the Kursant campaign which is great. It will teach airmanship more than the built-in training missions that come with most modules, as those tend to just teach systems or procedures related specifically to that module.
  14. Oh I shouldn't have read this! The last thing I need is to buy another headset!
  15. No, the objects themselves are visible through clouds and fog.
  16. Ok, I also noticed a weird issue in mission 2 that I thought was user error until I saw this thread. No Mavs in that mission though, just dumb bombs. The first one dropped and exploded, but subsequent runs on the target seemed to drop only dud bombs with no visible detonation. The fuse was not set to SAFE on the armament panel. I'm not sure what I would have done incorrectly.
  17. It's not a stretch to say that it's demonstrably untrue that pilots need to look at everything they touch. There's a reason that hotas switches are shaped differently. When I fly in real life (though granted all those planes are far simpler than anything in DCS), I certainly don't look at all the controls I use them there either. I don't need to look at the mixture to use it, not the flaps lever, nor the trim wheel. If one needed to see the mouse to use it in DCS, every VR pilot would be an abject failure in even the simplest of tasks.
  18. One weird artifact I found last night in the Harrier - even though you can't see the flood lights, just turning them on caused massive stuttering on my system. The stutters went away when turning the flood lights back off.
  19. Well that's certainly not true! Otherwise I'd be a complete failure in VR.
  20. Why do you need to look at those when you're flying?
  21. I finally purchased this campaign after going through Harrier training and the included short campaign again to re-learn the AV-8B. I knew that this was going to be quality since I played the Cerberus North campaign. But reading the SPINS, Theatre Briefing, and Mission 1 briefing, I'm once again amazed by the level of detail. I just dipped my toes in by starting up the first mission just for a taste before I needed to quit and put my kid to bed - I'm a student pilot in real life, and having to contact ground, tower, and departure may sound tedious to some, but I love it And having to comply with traffic pattern, noise abatements above populated areas, etc... makes this seem so very realistic and immersive. I can't wait to really get into this one. I've said for a while that the DCS campaigns are some of the best bang-for-your buck in the sim world. Just really really good stuff.
  22. Yay, thank you! Looking forward to flying tonight.
  23. I've tried the Mosquito and Harrier in MT, but not others as those are the two that have campaigns that I'm into at the moment. Both of those have either partial or no functionality with the internal lighting using the MT executable. I can't speak for other planes.
  24. I'm hoping that cockpit lighting is fixed in MT version so that I can actually use it And also that units aren't seen for many miles away through clouds and such
