Yes in beta 3 my wingman kept cutting across in front of me just once too often ... quick burst of GAU-8 - sorted.
-
Ahh, shame. Thanks anyway.

Is there a simple way to give alternate start points for a group? Sort of 40% chance it will start at point A, 40% at point B and 20% at point C?? Thanks
-
I'd like to see some more variation in damage effects/smoke rather than all the same colour rising at the same rate etc. Perhaps a 20% chance of explosions - similar to hitting an ammo bunker, rounds cooking off etc. Difference strengths of explosions, turrets flipping (see Steel Beasts) ... A 2000lb'er in RL looks terrifying from 1000m with a massine plun etc. Of course, if DCS took advantage of the other 5 CPUs in my system, thsi would be a problem ;) ... I know, not a simple thing by a loooooong way! One day.

You should move away from that Mav ... ;)
-
This is me v SA-15 ... I got him with a Mav, he almost got me :) Man those things are nasty! Not sure when I lost half my tail, I'd forgotten there was a gusty cross-wind on landing, tyres blew on landing and I did a 360.
-
Thanks Gnozo01, an LOD problem would explain it.

I was playing the stock rescue downed pilot scenario and I found the Blackhawks didn't appear to be drawn unless you were very, very close. I paused the game and panned around and looked for the choppers, but despite being right on top I could not see them. If I swapped planes I could see the A-10 from the Blackhawks. I was about 1/2 the width of the valley away from the Blackhawks at the time - I even went so far as to identify the texture of the ground the Blackhawks were over and then find this from the A-10 ... they were still invisible. All view options on high.

I don't know the figures, but I would guess cost. I would assume that Mavs are more expensive than Hellfires AND I bet you could carry lots more! Agreed the extra range on Mav would be a plus in some situations.
-
Isn't Brimstone based on the hellfire? And they put that on Tornado. I guess with the TGP you could lase, probably a shorter flight time than an LGB.
-
I thought a HEAT round, when detonated at the correct standoff distance causes a jet of molten copper (plasma) which penetrates the armour - this then spreys inside the target ... that thing looks solid!
-
Kuky, totally agree! Far too much reflections on high, you very rarely see the sea looking like a mirror!
-
How can we (the UK) bin 2 critical capabilities (MR and carrier aviation) and keep the Tornado? They can barely operate safely from anything but the best airfields. It makes no sense what so ever. The RAF stitched up the Navy a few years ago when they formed the joint Harrier force and then binned the SHAR ... these people have no regard for the capabilities of their country, just protecting the empires they've built - sickening. What a golden opportunity lost - to develop a real expeditionary warfare capability - with 2 carriers on the way. As for Nimrod ... what criminal mis-management of public funds! The MOD should be binned as not fit for purpose. Our soldiers/sailors/airmen risking their lives deserve better than the fat bloated tail that the MOD has become. Climbs off soap box ...

I've had to switch to 32bit A-10 and last v4 of NP to get TIR 3 working :( ...
-
Have you tried going into device manager and right-clicking on the TIR device and doing update. The problem is too, if you've had TIR4 s/w on before and now install v5, it is trying to ensure that the h/w is finding the new driver not the old. I never had the vector thing, so I may well be stuffed!
-
I get the same problem ... My TIR5 was faulty and got returned. My old TIR3 seems to be recognized, the lights are on, DCS A-10 can see the axes, but it doesn't work. Very frustrating! Worked ok in B2 with TIR4 s/w.

Running DCS-A-10 C in a virtual environment
Kula66 replied to mavyalex's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Perfectly possible - do it all the time on VMWare. However, graphics speed is not a strong point! -
Agreed the A-10 is not ideal for SEAD (by a long way), but for now it is all we have! When ED do the F-18/F-16 or F-22, I''ll switch to toss bombing and SEAD from those :)
-
Thanks raynor, So even with a bit more speed from a dive (350), I'm never going to get 6 miles!
-
I would have thought they are ideal for tossing ... they don't need external terminal guidance, so you can turn away immediately and not worry about painting the target. All that tossing a bomb gives you is stand-off range for release so you don't have to over-fly the target.
-
Thanks Viper, thats what I'm finding ... I've used the altitude approach on Tunguskas, but SA15s seem significantly more lethal - as you'd expect. Harriers regularly practiced toss attacks, but while they didn't have AB, they are a couple of hundred kts quicker.
-
I know this dependant on altitude and speed, but what is the max distance people are able to 'throw' a JDAM? Which is better max speed on the deck or from high up? If on the deck, is about 40degs the best point to release? I'm thinking in the context of knocking out an SA15 from as far away as possible ... the only other way so far is to get it to fire at my wingman and then Mav the sucker! Those things are lethal - they don't seem to fire until 5.5 miles, but when they do ... they seem to rarely miss despite jamming, jinking, beaming, chaff etc. PS> I did find a thread discussing this earlier, but wonder what people were getting in practice.
-
I've had Tunguskas take down Mavs, even when 2 fired in quick succession ... but a LGB from 15,000, no more bad guy :) Although with a higher engagement ceiling, 15s will be much more tricky!
-
4 x Mavs and 6 x GBU-12s - even a Tunguska can be hit from high-up and they so far haven't shot down LGBS. Plus jammer and TGP ... that thing must have really transformed RL Hog ops! Too many weapons and you get sluggish. I haven't yet got the WCMD to work ... they always fall short = WIP I guess.
