Look man, this aint IL2, Ed had to work real hard to include the new aircraft as every aspec of the avionics had to be modeled.. This plane is about 100 % harder to do then say a ME-109... All of the radar and weapons systems had to be represented in advanced flight dynamics ... This was a great undertakeing and the first of its kind.. It set the standard for every other flight sim to follow... Minor??? Hardley... Blaze

New trees for BlackShark....
VMFA-Blaze replied to The_GOZR's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I just want to say whats the big deal about IL2... Most of the guys here were flying that before Lock On was released, myself included.... But you wont actually see me on line... I've personally lost interest in that genera.. I'm waiting for the dynamic mission builder as I like flying campaigns at this point in time....And I'm hopeing that we might see a story line included with further releases, it would make everything a lot more interesting... ~S~ Blaze -
The Future of EDs Flight Sims Graphics
VMFA-Blaze replied to Blacknemisis's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Well these issues that you've listed are true to some degree, but I've found that upgrading your video card setup will most certainly add detail to Lock On...your not going to see much of a change in FPS but you can eliminate most of the jaggys, increase the lighting effects and see colors more vividly ..... I guess that everyone is aware that I've completed a new system build a few months back.. I'm now running BFG 8800GTS OC 640 x 2, in SLI, I purchased one card initially and just added the second card recently in order to stay within my budget... So yes there was improvement with each consecutive upgrade, maybe not a quantum leap in performance, as you stated, but a nice improvement in the visual aspect... I certainly would like to see Ed bring us a product that visually equals that of what Crysis seems to projecting.. But I'm afraid that this will effect the game play and might not be possible even with the current hardware that's available... But then we don't know what Ed's plans for the future are do we... I'm hoping the new engine that's on the horizon is optimised and will maybe be DX10 compliant... ~S~ Blaze -
New trees for BlackShark....
VMFA-Blaze replied to The_GOZR's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Speed trees or not ... I did read that the ground textures are being improved .. This is really a very important feature, as we'll be seeing a lot more of it with the air to ground operations becoming the focus... And to be honest I've really gotten tired of the present textures, they really leave a lot to be desired... allthough I can remember the change in ground textures after the jump from Flanker Squadron Commander, which had no textures to Flanker 2.5 where the ground textures were implemented to Lock On which took a very large step forward... Lock On was OK if you were flying the fast movers, the ground looked very nice from high altitudes but down on the deck it still needed work... With the next generation of improvements I don't think that any other developer will even come close to the immersion that this sim will offer... ~S~ Blaze -
Thats very nice progress HPO .. Thanks for the very detailed update... ~S~ Blaze

I don't actually have any real issues running Flaming Cliffs in Vista.. But in my case in order to get the sim to run perfectly I have to disable Administrator.. There might actually be a fix for this but I think that things should be left well enough alone for now... ~S~ Blaze

Cougar detection problem! HELP!
VMFA-Blaze replied to Raised_Dead85's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
RD its good to hear that youve gotten through your tour.. Congratulations As far as your Cougar is concerned, did you download the latest software off of the Internet? This is the only one that you really should use.. If have to reinstall my Cougar after "for example" a new system build this is all that I use... This should clear up any issues the you might be haveing.. ~S~ Blaze -

is this forum getting better or getting worse?
VMFA-Blaze replied to Civil_Genius's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I don't think that that's entirely true... It's more likely money was just one of the reasons.. It could also have been that there just wasn't enough detail available for US equipment at the time of release... Will US jets change with the upcoming release? Probably not... There's been an enormous amount of posts that have been over this issue... It seems that Ed will not be changing the FM or avionics for anything that's currently available.. But I'm betting that this will surely change when the next fast mover hits the shelves so to speak ... ~S~ Blaze -
New GFX corruption fix for NVIDIA users
VMFA-Blaze replied to suntrace1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hummmmm... Now that seems to point to the fact that maybe this might be a Lock On engine issue... For me I'm not actually that concerned with it .. I've just lowered the my shadow graphic settings down one notch.... Flaming Cliffs still looks awesome with everything else set to maximum.. These new drivers are working nicely with SLI since I reinstalled them by the way ... I think were most likely going to have to wait until ED either address this issue with the current engine or releases the new engine and hopefully it will clear this up... ~S~ Blaze -

New GFX corruption fix for NVIDIA users
VMFA-Blaze replied to suntrace1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ok I got tempted and installed the Beta driver... what a mess... Although I didn't have to "reformat" which is good ... But I was having some problems with the drivers shutting down momentarily while surfing... I didn't happen while in any games for some strange reason... They did increase the visual nicely though, the detail was a lot sharper, but I just couldn't live with the drivers hiccuping so I uninstalled them.. So I did get curious again yesterday and I went to see if there were any Beta updates.. So when I tried to download the Beta this time I got a program that actually scanned my system and recommended a set of very old drivers to install ... Now this I can't understand as I am running a fairly new system in SLI.... Anyway I'm going to monitor the site and see if I can get a set of newer drivers without any issues... ~S~ Blaze -
is this forum getting better or getting worse?
VMFA-Blaze replied to Civil_Genius's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Well I've got to say that this forum has actually gotten worse in my viewpoint... It's really turned into something totally different from what it actually started out to be, and I know this to be true as I was one of the first to join the English forum.. I've seen a lot of good men come and go, sort of like a combat zone... I'm hoping that Ed will get back into the business of providing us with the next addon to the best commercial combat flight sim out there... And at that point in time I think we'll see this forum get back on track... Sure there will be whiners after the next release but I 'm betting that there'll be a lot less of that with the release of Black Shark... And for you guys that were around at the beginning of the Lock On era you'll remember issues that this sim had at the time were catastrophic..Again do you remember the release of Flaming Cliffs.. This addon was actually a big step in the right direction, with only some minor bugs.. But the real problem was the download became broken causing a lot of issues for allmost everyone concerned.. And I'm sure that this must have cost Ed a lot of business... But still they've survived were other companies that have done less to anger thier customers haven't... And whats the key to their survival ?? It's a final product.. They've given us a High Fidelity contemporary flight sim, and its a new product, its not a reheated product from the past. It is as they so aptly named it "Modern".... And the fact is that you can buy it.. Its here and its now and you can load it up on your system and experience a little of whats its like to jump into present day aircraft and fly into combat... This is what makes this sim so awesome... So when we eventually do get the chance to fly a combat helicopter I'm sure that we'll again see this forum finally return to a more familiar form.. Personally I've been in ED's corner for quite a few years now and have stuck up for them in some of the other forums... I've been with them one hundred percent even when guys have come into this forum and bashed Lock ON... And I've given 100% to the developers when I was asked by them for help... And taking all of this into consideration I really don't like and also think that some of the things that the Moderators are doing are a little bit heavy handed .. And I'm speaking I'm sure for a lot of other guys here as well... I rember the UBI forum when all of the Beta Testers were turned into moderators.. At that point there were more moderators in that forum then members... I just hope that that doesn't happen here as well.. ~S~ Blaze -

I'm running 2 BFG 8800 OC 640's in SLI and I'm not really having any real issues with the most recent Nvidia drivers... But that's 158.24 drivers that came out on June 1.. I've been a little shy about using betas after I had to do a reformat as a result of problem betas... ~S~ Blaze -

New Black Shark Movie "Furious Angels"
VMFA-Blaze replied to TekaTeka's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
This is by far the best of the best... There's so much detail surrounding this sim at present that it really comes close to a FPS... But of course that's just regarding the visual.. and the simulator aspect will be the model for all others to beat... As far as I can see Black Shark looks like it's be almost ready for release... The glass cockpit of the KA-50 is very nicely finished and seems to be complete... the whole simulator appears to have really come up several notches since the release of Flaming Cliffs.. But will we be able to buy it ? I'm betting it wont be until this fall... If this truly is the case I wish that ED would give us more of these very impressive Vid's... So this was released buy the Eagle Dynamics Team .... ~S~ Blaze -
Windows maintenance , keeping files happy.
VMFA-Blaze replied to emenance's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes that's the same thing that I miss, but it does defrag automatically.... When I first realized that the graphics were missing from the defrag I did a Google and found that a lot of people, not just myself do miss it... Oh and Ven sorry that you had a problem.. I spent several hours myself trying to understand the method that I needed to use to get a external HD to backup the system.. I think that there's going to be a lot of other issues that will be unveiled the longer that we experience Vista.. But even with its present issues I personally still like it and I'm sure that I will only get better... If you have ever experienced ME then you know what a really bad O/S Microsoft can turn out... ~S~ Blaze -
Very cool... It reminds me of my permant duty station back at 2nd. Marine Air Wing / MCAS / Cherry Point NC... Thanks I'm going to try it out... ~S~ Blaze

If and when you install Vista and if you decide to install Live Care you won't need to do any of this anymore, because L/C does it for you automatically.. I'm finding Live Care to be a very easy system to deal with so far.. It actually does a defrag and a system tuneup at prearranged times, but if you liked watching the little colored lines then you might not like Vista because that's been eliminated... But so what it defrags automatically even if your not personally online.. So you don't have to try and remember... ~S~ Blaze -
Go with BFG they usally have an outstanding product... One thing regarding your post, you have BFG G-Force 256 GDDR3 and then you have BFG 8600 OC GDDR3 256 Meg... Is it that one BFG card is OC and one isn't ??? If this is the case, why go with the OC of course... You woun't have to go into the BIOS later on to OC as it will already be done for you.... ~S~ Blaze
