Something I have never understood is why when every single other thing is repaired to new condition when you get Repaired by the Ground Crew, the Throttle's "Safety Wire" is NOT repaired/replaced ? Repairs never leave anything else out. So it seems to me that if the rest of the plane is again "like new" then why not the Throttle/WEP Safety Wire ? The downside to it not also being repaired/replaced, is that the throttle is forever after "sloppy" or "sensitive" in the manifold region between 35in and 50in (give or take a few inches). That is to say, it is somewhat erratic in that region of manifold pressure and therefore a bit more difficult to be precise with your manifold pressure settings and control. Of course this only applies to the current plane. Once this aircraft is demolished/killed and you jump into a new plane, everything is as it should be ... at least until you use WEP, land and Repair. Then you go on again with a sloppy/sensitive throttle again. Is this something that DCS will ever Fix or Change ?

No more traffic on the strip Las Vegas
SnowTiger replied to jef32's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
I noticed this immediately myself. Zero Vehicles anywhere. I re-edited my mission where I noticed CIV Traffic was no longer Checked. So I re-checked that option and set it back to Medium and flew again. There were very few vehicles in Vegas and still Zero on the Strip. BTW - I also didn't see (or at least I didn't notice/could not find) and new hotel/casinos on the strip OR any new airports on the map. I thought I read there were both additions with the latest update ? -
I spent a fair bit of time between yesterday morning and now experimenting (online and offline). First of all, a fellow pilot/friend of mine has the REAL P-51 Manual which states that ALL rockets do fire within 1 second (i.e. 1/10 sec each). That sounds about right when I consider my press/release time when firing manually. I don't know why but that seems faster than what it was but then I admit, after allot of flying and practicing, I was able to regain "some" of the control I had before .. without blowing my wad in the first pickle press. So I guess I'll just have to practice, practice, practice to get used to it again (or used to the way it is ... whether it's now different than before or not). That's the bottom line. I prefer this method because I am always dealing with multiple targets and prefer complete control over ripple rates. Using the Counter does work (although it is super annoying that it counts up instead of down) if you want supreme control over the ripple rate. But it's not for me.

RE-QUOTED from DoW ED Forum ------------------------------------------ Okay ... I take "some" of it back. I played around with the Counter again today and had completely different results (for some unknown reason ?). Regardless how long I held the pickle button, I was able to ripple only 2 rockets at a time as desired. The only complaint I have remaining is the fact that we now must use this Counter to ripple accurately (as opposed to doing it manually with practiced timing of the pickle press/release) AND that we have to go heads-down to reset the Counter each time. This wouldn't be nearly as onerous IF 1.5 didn't make it so much harder to find, see and track ground targets (than it was in 1.2). It's a drag having to take our eyes off the target(s) to reset the counter. BTW - The first couple times I tried it, the counter kept going to 12 with each ripple making it a nuisance having to go from 12 down to whatever you want to set it at. Subsequent attempts didn't seem to leave the counter as high (numerically) but it seems like the counter should go down ... not up ??!!! In response to Art-J >> There is a huge difference in 1.5 from 1.2 regarding how fast the rockets ripple (when firing manually without the counter). I was previously able to reliably and consistently fire only 2 or 3 rockets as desired in 1.2. Now it is very difficult by comparison to fire fewer than 3 with the same pickle press/release timing. It is possible that I can master it again ... but it will take lots of practice and to be honest, I don't see it happening (without the counter).

I should point out that when I put the Counter on 9 (or any other setting), expecting 2 rockets to ripple, I would HOLD the pickle button. I "assumed" that the Counter prevents any other rockets from firing per press of the pickle button. Apparently this is NOT true. So why bother having it ? What I have not tried (because it defeats the purpose of having the Counter IMO), is trying a Quick Press/Release of the pickle button to fire a pair. I'd rather have it on Auto.. no counter, and simply Time my Press/Release to ripple as many as needed ... i.e. 2 for a Tank or small vehicle or 3 for Cargo Ships. This is now basically Impossible in 1.5 because the rockets fire in a very fast succession. DCS >> Please Revert Back to 1.2.16 rocket release timings. It sucks getting good at something over the course of a 1+ years to all of a sudden not being able to do it at all. It was surprising enough to find 1.5 required the use of a Different part of the Sight Reticle than we'd been using until now. EG: I used to use the Bottom 2 horizontal marks to line up on my target (and gauge distance by how the target vehicle fits between those marks). Now we use the \ . / marks. Which is okay. But it took about 2 weeks of missing everyone to figure it out after almost mastering ground attack with rockets. So now having to deal with this ripple timing is really annoying to say the least.

I have tried this myself and it doesn't matter what number you put the Counter on. On 9, one press of the pickle button fires/ripples ALL rockets. I have tried different numbers and on both on Auto and Single (thinking the latter might have been the issue). Prior to 1.5 I was able to put it on Auto (no Counter) and ripple as many as I wanted consistently, just be timing the press of the pickle button. This is almost impossible now because they ripple far too fast. IMO the Counter ... is USELESS.
-
BTW - I did try the Counter today starting on 9 and set to Auto. ALL 10 rockets flew with one press of the pickle button. So I tried it again on Single (instead of auto) ... got 1 rocket per press. It's Flawed. I still say it was better when we/I could press and hold for about .25 or .5 seconds to get 2 rockets to come off when in Auto (no counter). I used to take out 3 ships per flight being able to pickle 3 rockets with the right press/timing. I'd like the counter to work right IF that's what we have to do, but I'd like it even better the way it was for so long ... prior to 1.5. Obviously, I am expressing my personal choice and opinions. I don't speak for anyone but myself. I definitely don't wish to create any conflict or issues with anyone. The large majority of people appear to be happy with things which means I'm definitely in the minority. So I'm not sure what it's going to take for me to join the ranks but I'm a long way from it at present. Happy Flights Everyone Now I'm gonna go sulk in my corner.
-
That does work but it's a pain trying to fly and set the counter for each pair. Prior to 1.5, I could easily pickle off 2 rockets at a time consistently while on Auto just by timing my hold on the pickle button. Since 1.5, the rockets come off VERY Fast in succession. It is impossible to time them as I previously did. I admit I have no idea which is most accurate in the real world and maybe 1.5 is more accurate/realistic, hence the need for the Counter. But it was nicer before when one could basically just time the button release audibly (or instinctively ?) to know how many rockets were going to be released, without having to duck under the HUD to set each pair. The more I fly it, the less I like it.
-
It would help if the rockets could come off the rails with a bit more finesse and control like they used to. Now it seems more like you get 1 or you get them all, but difficult to pickle only 2 at a time with any repeated precision. I hope this can be corrected soon. Otherwise it will take many flights to kill all the ground targets when shooting only 1 or 2 targets per flight (via rockets). Of course gun runs work.

New X-55 Rhino - Not in System Tray
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I know the feeling. Used to have the X-52 myself. I've got my system down pat now. Select my Hotas Profile, Change my Windows Sound Profile to Headset (from speakers), Turn on and tune my TrackIR, then TeamSpeak if going online and then finally, I get DCS going. But there have been times I forget something and have to start DCS over again. It wouldn't be half as bad if DCS started much faster. But we got what we got so it pays to pay attention prior to starting DCS and hope it doesn't Crash to Desktop once your in ! -
New X-55 Rhino - Not in System Tray
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm not aware of any way to auto-load any specific or default profiles on startup. When I'm ready to fly, I right click on the systray icon and select the profile for whichever aircraft/mod I'm jumping into. While the majority of settings should be done in DCS Profiles, each mod usually requires a few things to be set up in the X-55's profiler. Such as setting up bands for rotaries or specific buttons for PTT and TrackIR Center etc. Because things can and usually are at least somewhat different for each aircraft/mod, I don't think you can have only a single default profile (but then I know that's not impossible). Just the same, I believe you will have to manually load it via systray icon each time you start your computer. -

LastMissionTrack file. Please find attached, the LastMissionTrack file. Please Note: This is mission 12 which I have tried to complete so many times I can't remember. But it is important to note that the last time I flew, I actually revised the mission to save time (because I'm sick of it). However, I don't believe that it is relevant because I have had the Exact Same Crash a couple of times .. just as I'm finishing off the last couple targets (in the stock/un-revised mission). This is a bit different because rather than crashing to desktop while the mission is loading, I manage to get in and fly and it CTD's at or near the end of the mission. Generally, the CTD's experienced are during mission loadup (before you ever get to see the cockpit). But this very situation (crash at end of mission) has happened several times. That said, I get as many CTD's as I have simply gotten into the mission and just gotten killed ! EDIT>> I just got the following while trying to attach the file: "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing. If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error." So now what ? PS> I also tried Zipping it as described in a link in your first reply in this thread. I got the same error message.

Okay thank you. I will follow your instructions today and report back as soon as I can. Thanks again.

Crash to Desktop STILL This is getting to be SUPER FRUSTRATING. I can't finish a damn campaign because either I crash to desktop loading the damn mission or I get a crash to desktop just as I'm finishing off the last 1 or 2 targets or I just get my A$$ shot off. Surely this Crash to Desktop issue can be fixed ? I am now attaching my 3rd Log.zip {Logs 3.zip} Logs 3.zip

Chronilogical Order of BS2 Campaigns ?
SnowTiger replied to SnowTiger's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The illumination worked for me. In fact, that's one of the few things that has !! I'm stuck on the very last mission. I have had it crash to desktop "umpteen times" and shot down every other time. I even know exactly where to look but the last time I got ALL the targets in the convoy and nothing happened. Then with my Wingman dead (un-be-known to me until I finished off the convoy) I discover (via F10) there are 5 more vehicles in another convoy which of course I can't get anywhere near with my rockets to kill them before they obliterate me. So I'm just fed up completely. Due to the fog, it often takes 2 atgm's to kill one target because they lose laser lock half the time. Super frustrating when the attack information and requirements for mission success are vague. -
Thanks for the reply friend. I will try the Tutorial (I didn't even notice that there before !!). The information and images you have provided in this thread is the most valuable of all the Ka-50 threads IMO. Thanks again.

New Log File Attached Since DCS has now crashed to desktop twice during the same mission (i.e. I manage to launch the mission and then it pukes 3/4 into the mission), I am providing a New LOG file. Logs 2.zip

I do hope they can resolve the Crash to Desktop issue soon. It makes flying the Campaign pretty much impossible. Today, I managed to fly the Last Mission. I just got finished killing the last vehicle in the convoy only to CTD right then and there. Giant Frustration. This roll-over from 1.2 to 2 (or 1.5) is a bit too painful for my liking. I guess it's time to go back to BF4 for a few months. Hopefully the dust will have settled by then.
-
Wow ... no kidding that's a huge task. Good on you man !! Merry New Year

PS> In fact, the TrackIR issue was in Mission 10 "BACK TO TEBERDA". Hopefully that helps. Although I doubt anyone plans on changing any of the older campaigns (but one never knows). Thanks in Advance for taking the time to review my Crash To Desktop issue. It continues to this day. But only when trying to advance in the Deployment Campaign.
